Herbold won't run for governor

By Paul Queary
The Associated Press

Bob Herbold

OLYMPIA — Former Microsoft executive Bob Herbold announced today that he won't seek the Republican nomination for governor.

After weeks of deliberation, Herbold, 61, called the job a "bad fit" that isn't suited to his experience and talents.

"Getting things done in a business world is far different than getting things done in a political world," Herbold told The Associated Press. "There's an awful lot of people who are operating independently, with their first priority being themselves."

Herbold, the retired chief operating officer of the software giant, also cited ongoing commitments, including a book contract, seats on corporate boards and consulting contracts.

HA!!!! This comes after Chris Vance (Washington GOP chair) virtually PROMISED us that not only would Herbold run, he'd win in a landslide! There is NO Republican candidate, save got Jennifer Dunn who seems supremely uninterested, who could win this one... not even close! I suspect that Gregoire will win the primary and the general, and is very well positioned to be the first woman president in the US in 2012.

1. You might be right about Gregoire.
She is respected by both D's and R's.

And parse this:
"Getting things done in a business world is far different than getting things done in a political world," Herbold told The Associated Press. "There's an awful lot of people who are operating independently, with their first priority being themselves."

What he is trying to say is that in the political world people are not slaves like he is used to. And does this man really expect us to believe HIS first priority is not himself??!! Good God Almighty!!!!

2. I think that's his "eloquent" way of saying
"My first priority is myself, and not Washington state."

4. This is why my Microsoft stuff is so buggy!
Does this guy write the tech manuals? Independent thinking is actually an admirable trait much respected outside the butt kissing circle of middle management flunkeys congregated in the executive washroom at Microsoft.

5. No Pugs of Substance in WA State
The WA state Repug party has come up sadly short of getting someone of substance running for Governor. I even had respect for the last Pug governors Dan Evans (65-77) and John Spellman (81-85). Since then no one the Pugs offered have come close to either of them. The Pugs last burnt offerings were Ellen Craswell (a genuine RWW) and John Carlson (a divider, not a uniter) they were both an embarrassment to the state and probably to the Pugs.
