Cheney says al-Qaida, Hussein linked, despite widespread doubts
By Mike Schneider -- Associated Press
Tuesday, June 15, 2004

----
ORLANDO · Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday that Saddam Hussein had "long-established ties" with al-Qaida, an assertion that repeatedly has been challenged by some policy experts and member of Congress.
"He was a patron of terrorism," Cheney said of Hussein during a speech before The James Madison Institute, a conservative think-tank based in Florida. "He had long established ties with al-Qaida."
Cheney offered no details backing up his claim of a link between Hussein and al-Qaida.
(...)
Sen. Bob Graham, D-Fla., said the Bush administration had "a sorry record in the war on terror." Graham, the former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, spoke Sunday in a conference call arranged by John Kerry's presidential campaign in anticipation of Cheney's speech.
The U.S. State Department acknowledged last week it was wrong in stating that terrorism declined worldwide last year in a report the Bush administration initially pointed to as evidence it was succeeding against terrorism, Graham said. Instead, both the number of incidents and the toll in victims increased sharply, the department said.

A handful of protesters led by the League of Conservation Voters protested outside the hotel where Cheney spoke in Orlando.
(...)
He also criticized the Senate for failing to confirm the Bush administration's appointments to federal judgeships.
"That's another reason we need to send a Florida Republican to the Unites State Senate," Cheney said.
(...)
"I've watched {Bush} make decisions and set the strategy," Cheney said. "I've seen a man who is calm and deliberate, comfortable with responsibility."
"As a result, America's friends know they can trust and America's enemies know they must fear the leadership of President George W. Bush," Cheney said.

2. Keep up the lies, Cheney..... Even your most ardent, brain-washed
supporters are beginning to (finally) come around to the truth, that you and the entire Bush* cabal are a bunch of damned liars, who have sold us all out. The more he keeps repeating these lies, the more apparent it becomes who was behind those WMD lies, the outing of Plame, the entire Iraqi debacle. (Of course it has been apparent to most of us for a very long time)....

9. The media never calls him on it. There were three lies and a distortion.
There were three Cheney lies in the article:
* The non-existent al-Qaeda / Saddam Hussein "link";
* The lies about the Dept. of State Report ("terrorist attacks going down"); and
* That Bush is great, we all trust him, blah, blah, blah.

There was also the Senate / judicial distortion, which made it sound like the Senate was holding up thousands of judge nominees, when in actuality they're only holding up a handful of extremist right-wingers.

7. Bush has long established ties with al quaeda.
per the bin Ladens.
So did poppy Bush.
We have long established ties with Hussein.
Pat Robertson has long established ties with Charles Taylor.
Reagan had long established ties with al quaeda.
For the higher ups in wld gov't, it's all a circle jerk with rotating partners I guess.

Cheney is trotted out on a regular basis to put out this spin, I need to go through my folders and see if this is a actual timed news cycle, like once a month he has to say this somewhere.

This man, like Reagan, has zero sense of patriotism or responsibility to the American people. It is all a business deal to him, and was from the get-go.

8. He is a fine example of why drug prices need to be lowered
That dude is in serious need of all kinds of medication.

I know he can afford to pay an assload for medication but he should be the poster boy for the pharmeceutical industry and what can happen if you don't take your medication.

11. Cheney says earth is flat, sets on back of giant turtle, despite widespread
doubts.

ORLANDO. Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday that "all evidence" shows the earth to be flat, an assertion that repeatedly has been challenged by some scientists and members of Congress. "The earth has repeatedly been shown to be flat", Cheney said in a speech before the Pomponius Institute, a geographically conservative think tank. "It rides on the back of a giant turtle". Cheney offered no details backing up his claim.
