Kerry Raises $100 Million in Three Months

John Kerry raised a Democratic record $100 million from March through May, lifting his presidential campaign to more than $140 million so far.

Kerry raised roughly $25 million last month alone, figures provided Wednesday by his campaign show.

The Massachusetts senator has already surpassed his financial goal of about $106 million for the primary season. He has about six weeks of fund raising left before he accepts his party's nomination in Boston and receives full government financing for the general-election phase of his campaign.

President Bush has raised at least $216 million since he began his re-election effort in May 2003. That includes at least $13 million raised in May through online and mailed contributions.

Shattering all grassroots fundraising records, 75 percent of the funds Kerry has raised since Super Tuesday have been from grassroots fundraising - online $44 million, direct mail and phones $31 million. The average grassroots contribution at johnkerry.com was $108, the average via direct mail and phones was about $70.

For the third straight month, Kerry out raised Bush. May's Kerry Campaign total was more than double the Bush-Cheney campaign's May total of $13 million. Kerry beat Bush's total by $15 million in April ($31 million to $16 million) and by over $17 million in March, when the Kerry campaign raised $43.4 million. The Kerry Campaign has receipts for well over $140 million for the presidential primary cycle, breaking Bush's 2000 record for a non-incumbent, according to the FEC report Kerry will file on June 20th.

To emphasize, Bush's May take was $13 million, Kerry's was $26 million.

That means it's time to clean out the couch, start checking pay phones for left over changes, picking up those pennies you see on the ground.
Kerry is actually making some decent headway against the Bush money machine, so we gotta dig a little deeper and fork over the cash.

Is it June 30 or the Convention? After the convention he can't spend any $ other than the $75M from the Feds, right? So it's all cash and spend now until then, right?

I think I can spare one or two more smallish donations. Tell the campaign to kick out some more good e-mails from big names like Carter, Kennedy and Clinton.

I talked with somebody at the Kerry office in LA the other day who told me that the "Gray Date" deadline for giving to Kerry so he can actually make use of the money was July 19.

A couple of friends and I are sending out postcards and email next week to remind people to get their last donations in before the middle of July. We hope to hit those June 30 paychecks.

He can spend any money he raises now, he just can't collect any more after the deadline.

and that's more meaningful than pledges, or money that's still "in the tubes" waiting to be processed, counted, distributed, salaried, and then the leftovers come to the campaign coffers.

BUT!!! It is a hopeful sign that the grassroots efforts of the not-as-rich-as-republican folks are willing to put their money where their hopes are.
