Ashcroft may face prison over 9/11 cover-up, says Daniel Ellsberg
Two whistleblowers stood side by side before a courthouse in Washington, D.C. on Monday. Veteran of the Pentagon Papers scandal, Daniel Ellsberg was backing a protest by former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds, against a court gag order which has silenced her revelations about the September 11th, 2001 attacks.

...

In an exclusive interview with BreakForNews.com he said that Ashcroft's legal actions against Edmonds were: "clearly intended to keep her from bringing out in public information that could lead.... to criminal indictments and possible convictions of major political figures."

Ellsberg says that if Edmonds' allegations are confirmed, the current Attorney General could be judged obstructive and share the fate of A.G. John Mitchell --who in Ellsberg v. Mitchell famously tried to squelch Ellsberg's 1971 revelations, and served prison time over the affair.

...

"I'm not an expert on all this," he admits. "But I am increasingly open to the explanation that people in the administration did see this coming... and may have indeed reduced some obstacles.., or opened the door, in effect. I haven't been absolutely convinced on that, but it does seem to me to be an open question that deserves investigation."

TREASON IS THE REASON
Mystery spies outed by FBI whistleblower

RETRACTION

In the following column, I wrote about Sibel Edmonds, a wiretap translator formerly employed by the FBI who has stepped forward with allegations about infiltration of the FBI by a mysterious "Middle Eastern country." Citing "a trusted source," I wrote:

"According to his Justice Department sources, the mysterious "Middle Eastern country" the Post couldn't name for reasons of ‘national security’ is indeed Israel."

I am now informed – by this same source – that the country in question may not be Israel.

While the column is not completely invalidated by this backtracking on the part of my source, it is nevertheless important to make clear that there is no solid evidence that Israel is indeed the country referred to in the Washington Post piece. I regret the error, and apologize to my readers.

The US government can be compared to a woman with a horribly disfigured – indeed, a downright grotesque – face, who, nonetheless, manages to hide her increasingly ugly mug with such an array of near-miraculous cosmetics, roseate lighting, and diversionary tactics that the casual observer is fooled into beholding what he believes is a great beauty. But every once in a great while the mask slips at a moment when the lighting is cruelly revealing, and we get a glimpse of the horror that lurks beneath. In the wake of 9/11, federal law enforcement agencies have indeed been seen in a new – and especially cruel – light. Where were they when Osama bin Laden and fellow ghouls were plotting the destruction of the WTC and the Pentagon right here under our noses? The picture that has emerged, at least up until very recently, is one of incompetence on the level of the Keystone Kops, a tragi-comedy of errors – but now, it appears, that is the very least of it….

Sibel Edmonds

Update 6-7-04 http://www.breakfornews.com/Sibel-Edmonds.htm Sibel Dinez Edmonds was awaiting a June 14 court hearing to determine if she can publicly tell the full story of intelligence failures over the 9/11 attacks. The U.S. government wants her knowledge to remain a state secret. Judge Reggie Walton has now called off the hearing --no reason cited, and no future date scheduled. The fourth time he's done this in past two years. Sibel Edmonds will hold a press conference with Daniel Ellsberg at 3rd & Const. Ave. on Monday, June 14, at 9:30 AM in front of the Court.

Hope she is wearing a bullet-proof vest and has bodyguards...

Sibel Dinez Edmonds "was hired as a translator of Turkish and other Middle Eastern languages by the FBI after" the September 11, 2001 attack. <1>

* On July 13, 2003, CBS News' posted an October 2002 interview by Ed Bradley with Edmonds. The introduction states that:

"This is the story of hundreds, if not thousands, of foreign language documents that the FBI neglected to translate before and after the Sept.11 attacks because of problems in its language department - documents that detailed what the FBI heard on wiretaps and learned during interrogations of suspected terrorists.

"Sibel Edmonds, a translator who worked at the FBI's language division, says the documents weren't translated because the divison was riddled with incompetence and corruption.

"Edmonds was fired last year after reporting her concerns to FBI officials. She told her story behind closed doors to investigators in Congress and to the Justice Department."

No offense to Ellsberg, but with the whitewash of 911, Iran-Contra, 2000 Selection, Enron, Saving&Loans scandal, Iraq invasion, etc etc. I don't see the BFEE giving up control of America anytime soon. As long as the BFEE stays in power (they were in power long before Dubya was anointed), people like Ashcroft will never see the inside of a prison.

Some particularly egregious action is committed by bush*, or perhaps an especially damning report comes to light. A few hundred protesters congregate as near to the white house as they can get, and they DEMAND the resignation of bush/cheney. They will NOT be denied. The national news reports the story, the event is excitedly discussed on boards all across the internet. The next day, the crowd swells to 1,000. The protest leads the network news that night and is on the front page of the NY Times, the Washington Post, and the LA Times the next morning. The press also reports in detail on the action or report that precipitated the protest, and the facts are DAMNING. That day the crowd increases further to 3,500. The protesters feel that they have momentum, and the media continues to report on the growing crowd. The next day, the crowd swells to 28,000, and they bring their POTS and PANS and they are making a HUGE amount of noise.

Bush and Cheney resign the next day.

51. I'm afraid that, even if there really were a liberal media in the US,
it still wouldn't touch the Sibel Edmonds story. The implications of her allegations are so grave, and strike at the heart of too many anaesthetizing myths regarding the American state, that even a truly free press would self-censor her out of the news.

The only other listing for news on a google news search with Daniel Ellsberg + Sibel Edmonds is this below. The people who want to be lied to will be, sort of like the line 'I didn't know they were married' B.S.

http://baltimorechronicle.com/061404ScottLoughrey.shtml

MEDIA CRITICISM:
Beware the Heroes of the Left
by Scott Loughrey

If Michael Moore, Richard Clarke, Ray McGovern, Scott Ritter, Sibel Edmonds and Amy Goodman were to meet at a tea-party, what would they discuss? Each arguably is working in some capacity to uphold the propaganda of the State.
June 14, 2004--The last time that Amy Goodman had Sibel Edmonds on her show "Democracy Now!," it was a friendly (and extended) chat between the two women in DN's curmudgeonly firehouse studio. Goodman and many others have consistently identified Edmonds as a 9-11 "whistle-blower."

Edmonds, a former FBI translator, claims to have seen documents warning that al Qaeda would attack the World Trade Center using hijacked airplanes. Notice that her position directly corresponds with the Bush Regime's official story that they were merely negligent over the events of 9-11. It is the sign of a very dark era that a person whose story is actually repeating the propaganda of the state is widely being given the stature of a legitimate whistle-blower like Daniel Ellsberg.

53. That Baltimore Chronicle piece is foolish and misleading.
Fintan Dunne, in the story of the original post above, calls it "misleading and unfair" to charge that Edmonds is helping to perpetuate the cover up, because though "the superficial reports of her claims in the mainstream media focus mainly on intelligence failures" and she was "coy in her early public statements...in closed session testimony to Congressional inquiries, Edmonds has given a much fuller account of her concerns. So dangerous an account that Ashcroft seeks to retrospectively cloak that testimony with state secret privilege."

And since her gagging, Edmonds has become much more forthright with her public remarks:

"She says the pre-9/11 US intelligence system had been penetrated by a drug-linked, semi-legitimate criminal intelligence network, operating with seeming impunity inside the FBI.

"The post-9/11 intelligence 'failures' included the willful quashing by the government, of investigations tracing those criminal networks.

"The 9/11 terror plot itself, intersected with the activities of a drug trafficking network of international scope, in ways that form a "crystal clear" picture of what was going on --to quote Edmonds.

"If that's a limited hangout, God help us. The truth must be awful."

55. Well yea, of course, see this is kind of old news, but it figures
They have had a muzzle on her for a few years now. She has seen real paperwork on it. Where us people that kind of hang out in places like this pick up the loose ends to put it all together. Using the largess of the multinational banking and oil revenues the elements (of cells in the spooks) have been for years funneling (laundering)drug money through them. The new thing is why would the let 9/11 happen or Mihop it because of it?

There seem to have been lots of theories or slightly different versions to it. The Narco news did this story on why these big sums of money floating around can't or don't surface.

Drugs as Currency

One of challenges of doing the numbers on the narcotics business is that narcotics are not always a commodity -- sometimes narcotics are a currency used to pay for other things.

The arms industry sometimes markets to third world countries, or groups such as terrorists, who cannot pay with cash, but can pay with drugs. So, for example, it is not unusual to see arms-drugs transshipment operations, in which payment for arms is taken with drugs and then the drugs retailed in the US to facilitate the arms trading and profits.

A case in point is the Iran-Contra operation at Mena, Arkansas. It has been alleged that Oliver North and the White House (National Security Council) were dealing drugs through Mena not to make money, but to facilitate arms shipments. Mena has received attention as a result of its alleged financial contribution to Bill and Hillary Clinton's rise to national prominence.

You also see the arms-drugs relationship as you estimate how the money works on the private profits from various taxpayer funded wars. Vietnam, Kosovo, Plan Colombia, Afghanistan, what do they all have in common? Drugs, oil and gas, arms. Add gold, currency and bank market share and you have the top of my checklist for understanding how the money works on any war or "low intensity conflict" around the globe.

Many of the members of our global leadership were trained in wartime narcotics trafficking in Asia during WWII. George H. W. Bush and his generation watched our ally Chang Kai Shek finance his army and covert operations with opium. I am told that the Flying Tigers were the model that taught Air America how to fly dope.

57. Wonder if there's somewhere to contact her and cheer her on.
We'd have to be careful that the freepers don't get their mitts on the address/e-mail, however..
