Bush told he is playing into Bin Laden's hands
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 10:34 PM by kskiska
Al-Qaida may 'reward' American president with strike aimed at keeping him in office, senior intelligence man says

A senior US intelligence official is about to publish a bitter condemnation of America's counter-terrorism policy, arguing that the west is losing the war against al-Qaida and that an "avaricious, premeditated, unprovoked" war in Iraq has played into Osama bin Laden's hands.

Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror, due out next month, dismisses two of the most frequent boasts of the Bush administration: that Bin Laden and al-Qaida are "on the run" and that the Iraq invasion has made America safer.

(snip)

Anonymous, who published an analysis of al-Qaida last year called Through Our Enemies' Eyes, thinks it quite possible that another devastating strike against the US could come during the election campaign, not with the intention of changing the administration, as was the case in the Madrid bombing, but of keeping the same one in place.

"I'm very sure they can't have a better administration for them than the one they have now," he said.

5. bush* does a whole lot more than play into Bin Laden's hands.
He take orders from him. Bin Laden wanted US military out of Saudi Arabia, and bush* pulls them out. Puts a bunch of them in Iraq, where the now deposed Saddam was holding down the Islamic fundamentalists along with everyone else. Bin Laden must've been dancing for joy.

Oh, and all the nuclear power plants in Iraq got left unguarded.

Oh, and Ms. Plame was outed, rendering her network in tatters. Her network tracked the movements of dangerous elements terrorists would want for weapons.

Yeah, bush* does a whole lot more than just play int Bin Laden's hands.

8. Wow. That would be big news.
From the article

The fact that he has been allowed to publish, albeit anonymously and without naming which agency he works for, may reflect the increasing frustration of senior intelligence officials at the course the administration has taken.

So, the senior spook's BOSSES are down with this as well!

You think Dim Son has enough on the ball to fend off the intelligence community, the uniformed brass, the State Department, the Justice Department (Plame Affair, Snitchgate, Halliburton), simultaneously? Even with the SCLM in his corner?

We shall see.

9. The Intent
Is to polarize.
I don't think that the attack in Spain was to defeat the government. I think that it was to keep them in power. In my opinion, where it went wrong was that the government tried to claim someone else was responsible and they were outed.
The ruling party was ahead in the polls at the time.
When I saw the report, the first thing that came to mind, was their intent to manipulate the election by provoking a reaction.
I think that we are very lucky with the result in Spain because it gives us a reference point.

10. Maybe not.
Another attack within the US may spur voters to vote for J. Kerry because BushCo did not keep Amerika safe. Of course, another attack could bring about a suspension of election indefinetly while Martial Law prevails and The Constitution is suspended.

It is obvious that the BushCo War on Terror is a miserable failure just as they are miserable failures with everything else.

Bush LIes

• "You can't say one thing and do another."-- George W. Bush, 10/31/00

• “If you overspend, it creates a fundamental weakness in the foundation of economic growth. And so I'm working with Congress to make sure they hear the message -- the message of fiscal responsibility.”-- 9/16/02

(Less than 6 months later, Bush proposed a budget that would put the government more than $300 billion into deficit.)

• “Having been here and seeing the care that these troops get is comforting for me and Laura. We are -- should and must provide the best care for anybody who is willing to put their life in harm's way.”-- Walter Reed Army Hospital, 1/17/03
(That same day the Bush Administration cut off access to its health care system from approximately 164,000 veterans.)

• “We're dealing with first-time responders to make sure they've got what's needed to be able to respond.“-- 3/27/02 (Bush said he was proposing $3.5 billion in “new” money for first responders, but he actually tried to rob more than $1 billion from existing grants to local police/fire departments to fund his proposal. In August 2002, Bush rejected another $150 million for grants to state and local first responders.)

• “We're working hard to make sure your job is easier, that the port is safer. The Customs Service is working with overseas ports and shippers to improve its knowledge of container shipments, assessing risk so that we have a better feel of who we ought to look at, what we ought to worry about.”-- 6/24/02 (Bush’s 2003 and 2004 budgets provide nothing for port security grants. In August, he vetoed all $39 million for the Container Security Initiative that he specifically touted.)

• “A secure and efficient border is key to our economic security.”-- 9/9/02 (Bush promised more INS/Border Patrol staff and facilities, but provided no funding. He vetoed $6.25 million for promised pay upgrades for Border Patrol agents, and his 2004 Budget slashes “Border and Transportation Security” by $284 million.)

• “We've got to do more to protect worker pensions.”-- 8/7/02 (The Bush Administration proposed new rules so employers could resume converting traditional pension plans to new ‘cash balance’ plans that can lower benefits of long-serving workers.) “Companies favor these plans because they can slash a worker's pension benefit by 20 to 50 percent in one fell swoop.”-- Rep. Bernard Sanders (I-VT.)

• “A reformed and strengthened Medicare system, plus a healthy dosage of Medicare spending in the budget, will make us say firmly, we fulfilled our promise to the seniors of America.”-- 1/29/03 (Bush’s 2004 budget proposes 85% less than what would be needed to meet his goal, and would leave 67% of the total $400 billion pledge to be spent after 2008.)

• “I want to thank the Boys & Girls Clubs across the country…The Boys & Girls Club have got a grand history of helping children understand the future is bright for them, as well as any other child in America.”-- 1/30/03 (Bush’s 2002 budget proposed eliminating all federal funding for the Boys and Girls Club of America.)

• “Clear Skies legislation, when passed by Congress, will significantly reduce smog and mercury emissions, as well as stop acid rain. It will put more money directly into programs to reduce pollution, so as to meet firm national air-quality goals. ...”-- Earth Day speech, 4/22/02 (Actually, the Clear Skies law delays required pollution emission cuts by as much as 10 years, weakens the states' power to address interstate pollution problems, and allows outdated industrial facilities to avoid costly pollution-control upgrades.)

So while the big lies about the war are exposed to the light, the Bush team is quietly working in the shadows-chipping away at programs for veterans, the young, the old, and the poor-funneling every possible dollar into their giant war machine so it will eventually end up in the pockets of friends and family. That is compassionate conservatism at its best.

Bush could not possibly answer one unscripted question about ANY issue. Not one. He approaches this job just as he has everything else in his life - slack it off, let Poppy and his friends bail him out. He does not know one thing about economics, foreign policy, the environment, law, or defense. Foreign leaders are watching that debacle and saying to themselves, "The US is on it's way down. This is the most ignorant, incompetent man that Amercia that has ever had as a president".

12. Hopefully
You are correct.
IMO Ben L can only succeed by polarizing things. As soon as one steps back and analyzes things then he and his like will be defeated.
However, it is very scary when it appears that things are polarized.
Although it seems to me that there is more of a total look on the situation than there was say six months ago. Hope you are right and also hope that nothing happens.

11. And we can cooberate this with Al Qaeda: Here is what they had
to say:

REUTERS

Purported Al Qaeda Letter Calls Truce in Spain
Wed Mar 17, 2004 04:56 PM ET

By Opheera McDoom
CAIRO (Reuters) - A group claiming to have links with al Qaeda said on Wednesday it was calling a truce in its Spanish operations to see if the new Madrid government would withdraw its troops from Iraq, a pan-Arab newspaper said.
In a statement sent to the Arabic language daily al-Hayat, the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades, which claimed responsibility for the Madrid bombings that killed 201 people, also urged its European units to stop all operations.
"Because of this decision, the leadership has decided to stop all operations within the Spanish territories... until we know the intentions of the new government that has promised to withdraw Spanish troops from Iraq," the statement said.
"And we repeat this to all the brigades present in European lands: Stop all operations."
Skepticism has greeted previous claims of responsibility by the group for attacks in Turkey and Iraq. U.S. officials say its links with Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network are unclear.
An unrelated videotape of a man describing himself as al Qaeda's European military spokesman also claimed responsibility for the Madrid bombing, saying it was in retaliation for outgoing Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar's domestically-unpopular support for the U.S.-led Iraq war.
In a shock election result three days after the Madrid bombs, Spain voted in the Socialist party, which has since said it will probably withdraw its troops from Iraq.
"The Spanish people... chose peace by choosing the party that was against the alliance with America," the statement said.
WE WANT BUSH TO WIN

The statement said it supported U.S. President George W. Bush in his reelection campaign, and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry, as it was not possible to find a leader "more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom."

In comments addressed to Bush, the group said:

"Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilisation."

"Because of this we desire you (Bush) to be elected."

19. "... links with Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network are unclear."
It's interesting how conveniently the Busholinis see "links to al Qaeda" in only those ways that serve their narrow self-interests.

They don't ever seem to perceive "actionable intelligence" except in the thinnest and most specious instances which they harvest to rationalize their predation and greed.

This administration is, beyond any historical measure, the most corrupt in the history of this country. Indeed, they're becoming quite comparable to the regimes of Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Pol Pot, Tojo, Peron, and the rest of the worst in world history if only because their appetites don't appear to be adequately opposed on the world stage. The cancer of neoFascism has metastasized in this country and now threatens the world.

15. Back when the 911 bombings happened, I told everyone all Bush is going to
do is stir up more trouble. He knows nothing different. He has no
ideal of how to handle any given situation so far, muchless one with such wide impact as this one.
I have preached against his trash since before he got elected and so much has all came true. I truly just can't see how any rational human being of any political affiliation could re-elect this 'know it all idiot' That turned a bad situation into a nightmare he can't fix.

20. Yep
Another attack with Kerry leading by 4 or 5 points, and the Bush team has a whole new message to use: "We can't be just like Spain. If you vote for anybody other than Bush, you're letting the terrorists win." The problem will be that the corporate media will repeat this message and treat it as conventional wisdom, rather than an outrageous, demagogic claim.
