Accused CIA Contractor has History of Violence
Accused CIA Contractor has History of Violence

A CIA contractor, charged with fatally assaulting an Afghan prisoner, was fired from a police force after an assault 14 years ago and a history of run-ins with wives and neighbours, authorities and acquaintances said today.

David Passaro, 38, has been accused of assault and assault with a dangerous weapon – a torch – following the death of Abdul Wali last June.

Wali had gone to a US base in Afghanistan on his own accord that month and surrendered to authorities. They suspected him of participating in rocket attacks against the base and wanted to talk to him.

1. he beat him for two whole days
so why isn't he charged with murder instead of criminal assault? He also has a history of physically attacking his neighbors (shooting at the car of one, beating up another) of beating his ex-wife. The guy is a freakin psychopath. Was working as a "medical assistant" when arrested. How would you like this fella irrigating your Foley catheter?

So, how did this jerk get into the position he was in?

3. Part of the civilian. suplement to military. Not enough troops.
I watched some program today where they reported that hiring all these civilians is one way Rummy never has to say he was wrong on needing more troops, admiting there aren't enough people in the military now, and lots of other things that aren't reported about civil personnel that are reported about the military.

My guess is, if you can walk and talk, you're hired!

4. Violence is why he was hired.
These paramilitary groups want violent psychopaths. That's what they get paid the big bucks to do - spread fear and horror among the residents of countries the U.S. wants to intimidate.

5. "Torch", of course, is British English for "flashlight"
"Torch", of course, is British English for "flashlight".

In other words, the accusation is of beating, not burning.

6. CIA Contractor Charged In Detainee's Death Was Hartford Cop
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 12:40 PM by Lori Price CLG
CIA Contractor Charged In Detainee's Death Was Hartford Cop Ex-Hartford Cop Faces Assault Charges --A former Army ranger hired by the CIA to conduct interrogations was charged Thursday with assaulting an Afghan detainee who died after two days of beatings, the first time civilian charges have been brought in the investigation of prisoner abuse in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Police spokeswoman Nancy Mulroy said (David A.) Passaro was relieved of his duty after being arrested by state police during his probationary period on the force. Passaro was reportedly fired after being charged with assault, and later pleaded guilty to breach of peace. He was also a firefighter in Stafford. (*How* much money was the Bush terror team paying this violent whackjob?)

7. Afghan official counters prisoner death claim
Days after a former CIA contractor was charged in the death of an Afghan in U.S. custody, a regional official today cast doubt on a defense lawyer's claim that the prisoner died of a heart attack.
<snip>

Passaro's defense has seized on a June 27, 2003, comment made to an Iranian radio station by Fazel Akbar, the governor of Kunar province where the base is located, as evidence that Wali died of a heart attack.

But the governor's spokesman said today that Akbar had only suspected heart problems because U.S. officials insisted the man was not mistreated and after a cursory examination by Afghan officials of the corpse.

Spokesman Hyder Akbar, who is also the governor's son, said that his father's initial assessment was "just speculation."
