US Ambassador relinquishes his post to breed racehorses
By Richard Beeston, Diplomatic Editor

THE race was on last night for a highly coveted post in the American diplomatic service, after William Farish, the US Ambassador to Britain, announced that he was stepping down after less than three years in the job.

In an article in The Times today, the envoy says that he decided to “conclude my tenure here and turn my attention to my family and business”.

Mr Farish, a businessman with close ties to the Bush family and a personal friend of the Queen, is expected to return to Kentucky in July where he is a leading racehorse breeder.

For all those residents of Regents Park who have had enough of three years' worth of "Uncle" Stamps bringing the area into disrepute I say Good Riddance and:

check out Post #18 from seemslikeadream excellent Farish overview on:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=628226#629586

In particular:
"Senator Harry Truman when investigating the national defense program, as committee chairman told newsmen before Farish testified: "I think this approaches treason. Farish began breaking apart at these hearings. He shouted his "indignation" at the senators, and claimed he was not "disloyal."After the March-April hearings ended, more dirt came gushing out of the Justice Department and the Congress on Farish and Standard Oil. Farish had deceived the US Navy to prevent the Navy from acquiring certain patents, while supplying them to the Nazi war machine; meanwhile he was supplying gasoline and tetraethyl lead to Germany's submarines and air force.
Communications between Standard and I.G. Farben from the outbreak of World War II were released to the Senate, showing that tFarish's organization had arranged to deceive the U.S. government into passing over Nazi-owned assets: They would nominally buy I.G.'s share in certain patents because "in the event of war between ourselves and Germany .. .it would certainly be very undesirable to have this 20 percent Standard-I.G pass to an alien property custodian of the U.S. who might sell it to an unfriendly interest.

In August, Farish was brought back for more testimony. He was now frequently accused of lying. Farish was crushed under the intense, public grilling; he became morose, ashen. While Prescott Bush escaped publicity when the government seized his Nazi banking organization in October, Farish had been nailed. He collapsed and died of a heart attack on November 29, 1942.

The Farish family was devastated by the exposure. Son William Stamps Farish, Jr., a lieutenant in the Army Air Force, was humiliated by the public knowledge that his father was fueling the enemy's aircraft; he died in a training accident in Texas six months later. With this double death the fortune comprising much of Standard Oil's profits from Texas and Nazi Germany was now to be settled upon the little four-year-old grandson, William...overlapping the intelligence and financial worlds-The Bush Farish axis started George Bush's career.

A Senate investigating committee under Senator (later US President Harry Truman of Missouri had called Arnold to testify at hearings on corporations' collaboration with the Nazi. The Senators expressed outrage at the cynical way Farish was continuing an alliance with the Hitler regime that begun back in 1933, when Farish became chief of Jersey Standard. Didn't he know there was a war on?"

My fave bit is paragraph 3 where it says the family was "humiliated by the public knowledge that his father was fueling the enemy's aircaft"......

1. So they say ...
I bet all us "neigh-sayers" will still claim his leaving is at least, in part, of a political nature.

Chew on that! <hook from the gong show?>

When George Bush was elected vice president in 1980, Texas mystery man William Stamps Farish III took over management of all of George Bush's personal wealth in a "blind trust." Known as one of the richest men in Texas, Will Farish keeps his business affairs under the most intense secrecy. Only the source of his immense wealth is known, not its employment. Note #3 Will Farish has long been Bush's closest friend and confidante….
President Bush can count on Farish not to betray the violent secrets surrounding the Bush family money. For Farish's own family fortune was made in the same Hitler project, in a nightmarish partnership with George Bush's father.

On March 25, 1942, U.S. Assistant Attorney General Thurman Arnold announced that William Stamps Farish (grandfather of the President's money manager) had pleaded "no contest" to charges of criminal conspiracy with the Nazis. Farish was the principal manager of a worldwide cartel between Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey and the I.G. Farben concern. The merged enterprise had opened the Auschwitz slave labor camp on June 14, 1940, to produce artificial rubber and gasoline...

---wasn't Thyssens, Prescott's Dutch biz partner, part of the I.G. Farben/Austwitz deal?

interesting, too, that Farish's daughter married one of the Harrimans, the large shareholder in Union Bank, from which Prescott was also enriched, though not to the same degree as Harriman.

from BCCI yesterday, especially the bit about fuelling the enemy's aircraft!

What a brilliant bit of news! Farish dumped and booted out of Regents Park.

Now for Junior. Wonder how he will cope when the Brits release the affidavit Poppy had to sign in 1993 when the Trumans sued him in London and New York and he admitted to having been a KGB recruit since 1962.....

25. More on Farish family protifing from war fuel:
His grandfather William Stamps Farish sold the Japanese the gasoline used in the attack on Pearl Harbor. Likewise, the elder Farish supplied Hitler’s war machine with oil and tetraethyl lead. George Bush’s father, Prescott was close friends with the elder Farish and remained so even after the elder’s testimony before congress provoked Harry Truman to cry out "This is Treason."

and

STANDARD OIL OF NEW JERSEY (Now Exxon)

"On February 27, 1942," according to Higham, "Arnold, with documents stuffed under his arms, . . . strode into the lion's den of Standard at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Just behind him were Secretary of the Navy Franklin Knox and Secretary of the Army Henry L. Stimson." They confronted Standard official William Farish and "Arnold sharply laid down his charges" that "by continuing to favor Hitler in rubber deal and patent arrangements," Standard Oil "had acted against the interests of the American government . . . suggested a fine of $1.5 million and a consent decree whereby Standard would turn over for the duration all the patents" in question.

"Farish rejected the proposal on the spot. He pointed out that Standard" was also selling the U.S. a "high percentage" of the fuel being used by the Army, Navy, and Air Force "making it possible for America to win the war. Where would America be without it?"

Blackmail? Yes, says Higham. And effective. Arnold was finally reduced to asking the oil company official "to what Standard Oil would agree. After all, there had to be at least token punishment. . . . Arnold, Stimson, and Knox soon realized they had no power to compare with that of Standard."

The price Standard Oil "agreed" to pay for its crime? A modest fine of a few thousand dollars divided up among ten defendants. "Farish paid $1,000, or a quarter of one week's salary, for having betrayed America."

WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST

According to journalist George Seldes:

". . . Hitler had the support of the most widely circulated magazine in history, 'Readers Digest,' as well as nineteen big-city newspapers and one of the three great American news agencies, the $220-million Hearst press empire.

". . . William Randolph Hearst, Sr., . . . was the lord of all the press lords in the United States. The millions who read the Hearst newspapers and magazines and saw Hearst newsreels in the nation's moviehouses had their minds poisoned by Hitler propaganda.

"It was . . . disclosed first to President Roosevelt (by Ambassador Dodd) almost on the day it happened, in September 1934, and it is detailed in the book 'Ambassador Dodd's Diary,' published in 1941, and again in libel-proof documents on file in the courts of the state of New York. William E. Dodd, professor of history (at the University of Chicago), told me about the Hearst sell-out . . .

"According to Ambassador Dodd, Hearst came to take the waters at Bad Nauheim in September 1934, and Dodd somehow learned immediately that Hitler had sent two of his most trusted Nazi propagandists, Hanfstangel and Rosenberg, to ask Hearst how Nazism could present a better image in the United States. When Hearst went to Berlin later in the month, he was taken to see Hitler."

Seldes reports that a $400,000 a year deal was struck between Hearst and Hitler, and signed by Doctor Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propaganda minister. "Hearst," continues Seldes, "completely changed the editorial policy of his nineteen daily newspapers the same month he got the money."

In the court documents filed on behalf of Dan Gillmor, publisher of a magazine named "Friday," in response to a lawsuit by Hearst, under item 61, he states: "Promptly after this said visit with Adolf Hitler and the making of said arrangements. . . said plaintiff, William Randolph Hearst, instructed all Hearst press correspondents in Germany, including those of INS (Hearst's International News Service) to report happenings in Germany only in a friendly' manner. All of such correspondents reporting happenings in Germany accurately and without friendliness, sympathy and bias for the actions of the then German government, were transferred elsewhere, discharged, or forced to resign. . . ."

In the late 1930s, Seldes recounts, when "several sedition indictments (were brought by) the Department of Justice . . . against a score or two of Americans, the defendants included an unusually large minority of newspaper men and women, most of them Hearst employees." (2)

This brief article has only scratched the surface of the sordid association of Prescott Bush with the Nazis as he had yet a third company seized from him during the war. In his first run for senator, Prescott was defeated after his position within the eugenics movement was disclosed. George the poppy has followed in his father’s footsteps and retained many of the same family connections with the Nazis. For instance, as chairman of the Republican Party he presided over the formation of the Ethnic Heritage groups of the Republican Party. This was a reward for the Nazi quislings from Eastern Europe for helping in the election of Nixon as president. When two or more ethnic groups were vying for control over a particular group invariably the group with close ties to the Nazis won out. George also shows the same intense interest in population control. Perhaps it was for his beliefs in eugenics, George appointed Draper as his expert on population. Or perhaps it was more of a reward for past services rendered by Draper to the Bush family. Draper was the former general placed in control of the military government‘s economic division after the war. Draper was a rabid racist and member of the Eugenics Society. He was also a former employee of Dillion and Reed, the large Wall Street brokerage house that floated the largest German bond offerings including one for United Steel Works. In his position as economic czar of Germany, he stopped the dismantling of an I.G. Farben plant and was in the ideal slot to protect his former clients that armed Hitler, including Bush.

The same close associations are apparent with Bush junior. One interesting pattern in international relations is ready observed that the Israeli government moves to the hard right whenever a Bush is in the Oval Office. Considering, Israel has one of the best intelligence agencies in the world and a perhaps the most extensive data base on the holocaust, could the Israeli hard-liners be blackmailing the Bushes? Do they have a smoking gun that would at once end the political aspirations of the entire Bush clan as well as place the family wealth at risk for damages suffered during the Holocaust? One researcher already says the family wealth is at risk in such suits; the ties are that strong.

Any reasonable person understands that the tragedy of 9-11 was allowed to happen. Only the White House can order the interceptors to stand down, once an aircraft deviates from its flight plan or contact is lost. Within 30 minutes of the time the golfer’s plane that decompressed failed to follow directions from the control tower a fighter was alongside and shadowed the plane until it ran out of fuel and crashed in the midwest. The story that no fighters were available is simply a lot of bullshit. There are probably no less than a dozen or more airports within range of New York and Washington DC with fighter squadrons on standby. Yet, Bush wants us to believe that the entire East Coast was left unprotected with no fighters to provide air cover including the restricted airspace over the White House. The 9-11 tragedy was the Reichstag fire and the so-call Patriot Act, the enabling act for another fascist government.

With American blood about to stain the sands of the Mideast why hasn’t the media focused on the merchant of death, who armed Saddam? They would need to look no further than George Bush, the poppy and Vice President Dick Cheney. Poppy Bush is rubbing his hands with glee counting potential profits for his Carlyle Group. The group holds stocks in defense industries that armed Saddam during the Reagan years and provided arms for the US military. This is the way the Bush family makes it money. Just ask Prescott. It didn’t take Dick long to learn that secret. After the first Bush administration in which Cheney was the head of defense, he became head of Halliburton. While at Halliburton, Dick sold hundred of millions of dollars worth of dual use equipment to Iraq.

Stand behind the young soldiers and wave a flag for them, as they are mere canon fodder for this fascist clique. Don’t wave a flag for the most corrupt administration in the history of the country that’s hell-bent on installing a fascist regime beholding to no one other than corporate interests.

Speaking of conspiracies ... ONE name at the heart of all these

Nor, finally, is it in any way a "theory" that the one, single name that can be directly linked to the Third Reich, the US military industrial complex, Skull and Bones, Eastern Establishment good ol' boys, the Illuminati, Big Texas Oil, the Bay of Pigs, the Miami Cubans, the Mafia, the FBI, the JFK assassination, the New World Order, Watergate, the Republican National Committee, Eastern European fascists, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, the United Nations, CIA headquarters, the October Surprise, the Iran/Contra scandal, Inslaw, the Christic Institute, Manuel Noriega, drug-running "freedom fighters" and death squads, Iraqgate, Saddam Hussein, weapons of mass destruction, the blood of innocents, the savings and loan crash, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, the "Octopus," the "Enterprise," the Afghan mujaheddin, the War on Drugs, Mena (Arkansas), Whitewater, Sun Myung Moon, the Carlyle Group, Osama bin Laden and the Saudi royal family, David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger, and the presidency and vice-presidency of the United States, is: George Herbert Walker Bush.

Paranoid shift

By Michael Hasty
Online Journal Contributing Writer

January 10, 2004—Just before his death, James Jesus Angleton, the legendary chief of counterintelligence at the Central Intelligence Agency, was a bitter man. He felt betrayed by the people he had worked for all his life. In the end, he had come to realize that they were never really interested in American ideals of "freedom" and "democracy." They really only wanted "absolute power."

Angleton told author Joseph Trento that the reason he had gotten the counterintelligence job in the first place was by agreeing not to submit "sixty of Allen Dulles' closest friends" to a polygraph test concerning their business deals with the Nazis. In his end-of-life despair, Angleton assumed that he would see all his old companions again "in hell."

The transformation of James Jesus Angleton from an enthusiastic, Ivy League cold warrior, to a bitter old man, is an extreme example of a phenomenon I call a "paranoid shift." I recognize the phenomenon, because something similar happened to me.

Although I don't remember ever meeting James Jesus Angleton, I worked at the CIA myself as a low-level clerk as a teenager in the '60s. This was at the same time I was beginning to question the government's actions in Vietnam. In fact, my personal "paranoid shift" probably began with the disillusionment I felt when I realized that the story of American foreign policy was, at the very least, more complicated and darker than I had hitherto been led to believe.

But for most of the next 30 years, even though I was a radical, I nevertheless held faith in the basic integrity of a system where power ultimately resided in the people, and whereby if enough people got together and voted, real and fundamental change could happen.

What constitutes my personal paranoid shift is that I no longer believe this to be necessarily true.

In his book, "Rogue State: A Guide to the World's Only Superpower," William Blum warns of how the media will make anything that smacks of "conspiracy theory" an immediate "object of ridicule." This prevents the media from ever having to investigate the many strange interconnections among the ruling class—for example, the relationship between the boards of directors of media giants, and the energy, banking and defense industries. These unmentionable topics are usually treated with what Blum calls "the media's most effective tool—silence." But in case somebody's asking questions, all you have to do is say, "conspiracy theory," and any allegation instantly becomes too frivolous to merit serious attention.

On the other hand, since my paranoid shift, whenever I hear the words "conspiracy theory" (which seems more often, lately) it usually means someone is getting too close to the truth.

Take September 11—which I identify as the date my paranoia actually shifted, though I didn't know it at the time.

Unless I'm paranoid, it doesn't make any sense at all that George W. Bush, commander-in-chief, sat in a second-grade classroom for 20 minutes after he was informed that a second plane had hit the World Trade Center, listening to children read a story about a goat. Nor does it make sense that the Number 2 man, Dick Cheney—even knowing that "the commander" was on a mission in Florida—nevertheless sat at his desk in the White House, watching TV, until the Secret Service dragged him out by the armpits.

Unless I'm paranoid, it makes no sense that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld sat at his desk until Flight 77 hit the Pentagon—well over an hour after the military had learned about the multiple hijacking in progress. It also makes no sense that the brand-new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff sat in a Senate office for two hours while the 9/11 attacks took place, after leaving explicit instructions that he not be disturbed—which he wasn't.

In other words, while the 9/11 attacks were occurring, the entire top of the chain of command of the most powerful military in the world sat at various desks, inert. Why weren't they in the "Situation Room?" Don't any of them ever watch "West Wing?"

In a sane world, this would be an object of major scandal. But here on this side of the paranoid shift, it's business as usual.

Years, even decades before 9/11, plans had been drawn up for American forces to take control of the oil interests of the Middle East, for various imperialist reasons. And these plans were only contingent upon "a catastrophic and catalyzing event, like a new Pearl Harbor," to gain the majority support of the American public to set the plans into motion. When the opportunity presented itself, the guards looked the other way . . . and presto, the path to global domination was open.

Simple, as long as the media played along. And there is voluminous evidence that the media play along. Number one on Project Censored's annual list of underreported stories in 2002 was the Project for a New American Century (now the infrastructure of the Bush Regime), whose report, published in 2000, contains the above "Pearl Harbor" quote.

Why is it so hard to believe serious people who have repeatedly warned us that powerful ruling elites are out to dominate "the masses?" Did we think Dwight Eisenhower was exaggerating when he warned of the extreme "danger" to democracy of "the military industrial complex?" Was Barry Goldwater just being a quaint old-fashioned John Bircher when he said that the Trilateral Commission was "David Rockefeller's latest scheme to take over the world, by taking over the government of the United States?" Were Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt or Joseph Kennedy just being class traitors when they talked about a small group of wealthy elites who operate as a hidden government behind the government? Especially after he died so mysteriously, why shouldn't we believe the late CIA Director William Colby, who bragged about how the CIA "owns everyone of any major significance in the major media?"

Why can't we believe James Jesus Angleton—a man staring eternal judgment in the face—when he says that the founders of the Cold War national security state were only interested in "absolute power?" Especially when the descendant of a very good friend of Allen Dulles now holds power in the White House.

Prescott Bush, the late, aristocratic senator from Connecticut, and grandfather of George W Bush, was not only a good friend of Allen Dulles, CIA director, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, and international business lawyer. He was also a client of Dulles' law firm. As such, he was the beneficiary of Dulles' miraculous ability to scrub the story of Bush's treasonous investments in the Third Reich out of the news media, where it might have interfered with Bush's political career . . . not to mention the presidential careers of his son and grandson.

Recently declassified US government documents, unearthed last October by investigative journalist John Buchanan at the New Hampshire Gazette, reveal that Prescott Bush's involvement in financing and arming the Nazis was more extensive than previously known. Not only was Bush managing director of the Union Banking Corporation, the American branch of Hitler's chief financier's banking network; but among the other companies where Bush was a director—and which were seized by the American government in 1942, under the Trading With the Enemy Act—were a shipping line which imported German spies; an energy company that supplied the Luftwaffe with high-ethyl fuel; and a steel company that employed Jewish slave labor from the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Like all the other Bush scandals that have been swept under the rug in the privatized censorship of the corporate media, these revelations have been largely ignored, with the exception of a single article in the Associated Press. And there are those, even on the left, who question the current relevance of this information.

But Prescott Bush's dealings with the Nazis do more than illustrate a family pattern of genteel treason and war profiteering—from George Senior's sale of TOW missiles to Iran at the same time he was selling biological and chemical weapons to Saddam Hussein, to Junior's zany misadventures in crony capitalism in present-day Iraq.

More disturbing by far are the many eerie parallels between Adolph Hitler and George W. Bush:

A conservative, authoritarian style, with public appearances in military uniform (which no previous American president has ever done while in office). Government by secrecy, propaganda and deception. Open assaults on labor unions and workers' rights. Preemptive war and militant nationalism. Contempt for international law and treaties. Suspiciously convenient "terrorist" attacks, to justify a police state and the suspension of liberties. A carefully manufactured image of "The Leader," who's still just a "regular guy" and a "moderate." "Freedom" as the rationale for every action. Fantasy economic growth, based on unprecedented budget deficits and massive military spending.

And a cold, pragmatic ideology of fascism—including the violent suppression of dissent and other human rights; the use of torture, assassination and concentration camps; and most important, Benito Mussolini's preferred definition of "fascism" as "corporatism, because it binds together the interests of corporations and the state."

By their fruits, you shall know them.

What perplexes me most is probably the same question that plagues most paranoiacs: why don't other people see these connections?

Oh, sure, there may be millions of us, lurking at websites like Online Journal, From the Wilderness, Center for Cooperative Research, and the Center for Research on Globalization, checking out right-wing conspiracists and the galaxy of 9/11 sites, and reading columnists like Chris Floyd at the Moscow Times, and Maureen Farrell at Buzzflash. But we know we are only a furtive minority, the human remnant among the pod people in the live-action, 21st-century version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."

And being paranoid, we have to figure out, with an answer that fits into our system, why more people don't see the connections we do. Fortunately, there are a number of possible explanations.

First on the list would have to be what Marshal McLuhan called the "cave art of the electronic age:" advertising. Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's Karl Rove, gave credit for most of his ideas on how to manipulate mass opinion to American commercial advertising, and to the then-new science of "public relations." But the public relations universe available to the corporate empire that rules the world today makes the Goebbels operation look primitive. The precision of communications technology and graphics; the century of research on human psychology and emotion; and the uniquely centralized control of triumphant post-Cold War monopoly capitalism, have combined to the point where "the manufacture of consent" can be set on automatic pilot.

A second major reason people won't make the paranoid shift is that they are too fundamentally decent. They can't believe that the elected leaders of our country, the people they've been taught through 12 years of public school to admire and trust, are capable of sending young American soldiers to their deaths and slaughtering tens of thousands of innocent civilians, just to satisfy their greed—especially when they're so rich in the first place. Besides, America is good, and the media are liberal and overly critical.

Third, people don't want to look like fools. Being a "conspiracy theorist" is like being a creationist. The educated opinion of eminent experts on every TV and radio network is that any discussion of "oil" being a motivation for the US invasion of Iraq is just out of bounds, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a "conspiracy theorist." We can trust the integrity of our 'no-bid" contracting in Iraq, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a "conspiracy theorist." Of course, people sometimes make mistakes, but our military and intelligence community did the best they could on and before September 11, and anybody who thinks otherwise is a "conspiracy theorist."

Lee Harvey Oswald was the sole assassin of JFK, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a "conspiracy theorist."

Perhaps the biggest hidden reason people don't make the paranoid shift is that knowledge brings responsibility. If we acknowledge that an inner circle of ruling elites controls the world's most powerful military and intelligence system; controls the international banking system; controls the most effective and far-reaching propaganda network in history; controls all three branches of government in the world's only superpower; and controls the technology that counts the people's votes, we might be then forced to conclude that we don't live in a particularly democratic system. And then voting and making contributions and trying to stay informed wouldn't be enough. Because then the duty of citizenship would go beyond serving as a loyal opposition, to serving as a "loyal resistance"—like the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War, except that in this case the resistance to fascism would be on the side of the national ideals, rather than the government; and a violent insurgency would not only play into the empire's hands, it would be doomed from the start.

Forming a nonviolent resistance movement, on the other hand, might mean forsaking some middle class comfort, and it would doubtless require a lot of work. It would mean educating ourselves and others about the nature of the truly apocalyptic beast we face. It would mean organizing at the most basic neighborhood level, face to face. (We cannot put our trust in the empire's technology.) It would mean reaching across turf lines and transcending single-issue politics, forming coalitions and sharing data and names and strategies, and applying energy at every level of government, local to global. It would also probably mean civil disobedience, at a time when the Bush regime is starting to classify that action as "terrorism." In the end, it may mean organizing a progressive confederacy to govern ourselves, just as our revolutionary founders formed the Continental Congress. It would mean being wise as serpents, and gentle as doves.

It would be a lot of work. It would also require critical mass. A paradigm shift.

But as a paranoid, I'm ready to join the resistance. And the main reason is I no longer think that the "conspiracy" is much of a "theory."

That the US House of Representatives Select Committee on Assassinations concluded that the murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy was "probably" the result of "a conspiracy," and that 70 percent of Americans agree with this conclusion, is not a "theory." It's fact.

That the Bay of Pigs fiasco, "Operation Zapata," was organized by members of Skull and Bones, the ghoulish and powerful secret society at Yale University whose membership also included Prescott, George Herbert Walker and George W Bush; that two of the ships that carried the Cuban counterrevolutionaries to their appointment with absurdity were named the "Barbara" and the "Houston"—George HW Bush's city of residence at the time—and that the oil company Bush owned, then operating in the Caribbean area, was named "Zapata," is not "theory." It's fact.

That George Bush was the CIA director who kept the names of what were estimated to be hundreds of American journalists, considered to be CIA "assets," from the Church Committee, the US Senate Intelligence Committe chaired by Senator Frank Church that investigated the CIA in the 1970s; that a 1971 University of Michigan study concluded that, in America, the more TV you watched, the less you knew; and that a recent survey by international scholars found that Americans were the most "ignorant" of world affairs out of all the populations they studied, is not a "theory." It's fact.

That the Council on Foreign Relations has a history of influence on official US government foreign policy; that the protection of US supplies of Middle East oil has been a central element of American foreign policy since the Second World War; and that global oil production has been in decline since its peak year, 2000, is not "theory." It's fact.

That, in the early 1970s, the newly-formed Trilateral Commission published a report which recommended that, in order for "globalization" to succeed, American manufacturing jobs had to be exported, and American wages had to decline, which is exactly what happened over the next three decades; and that, during that same period, the richest one percent of Americans doubled their share of the national wealth, is not "theory." It's fact.

That, beyond their quasi-public role as agents of the US Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve Banks are profit-making corporations, whose beneficiaries include some of America's wealthiest families; and that the United States has a virtual controlling interest in the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organization, the three dominant global financial institutions, is not a "theory." It's fact.

That—whether it's heroin from Southeast Asia in the '60s and '70s, or cocaine from Central America and heroin from Afghanistan in the '80s, or cocaine from Colombia in the '90s, or heroin from Afghanistan today—no major CIA covert operation has ever lacked a drug smuggling component, and that the CIA has hired Nazis, fascists, drug dealers, arms smugglers, mass murderers, perverts, sadists, terrorists and the Mafia, is not "theory." It's fact.

That the international oil industry is the dominant player in the global economy; that the Bush family has a decades-long business relationship with the Saudi royal family, Saudi oil money, and the family of Osama bin Laden; that, as president, both George Bushes have favored the interests of oil companies over the public interest; that both George Bushes have personally profited financially from Middle East oil; and that American oil companies doubled their records for quarterly profits in the months just preceding the invasion of Iraq, is not "theory." It's fact.

That the 2000 presidential election was deliberately stolen; that the pro-Bush/anti-Gore bias in the corporate media had spiked markedly in the last three weeks of the campaign; that corporate media were then virtually silent about the Florida recount; and that the Bush 2000 team had planned to challenge the legitimacy of the election if George W had won the popular, but lost the electoral vote—exactly what happened to Gore—is not "theory." It's fact.

That the intelligence about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction was deceptively "cooked" by the Bush administration; that anybody paying attention to people like former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter, knew before the invasion that the weapons were a hoax; and that American forces in Iraq today are applying the same brutal counterinsurgency tactics pioneered in Central America in the 1980s, under the direct supervision of then-Vice President George HW Bush, is not a "theory." It's fact.

That "Rebuilding America's Defenses," the Project for a New American Century's 2000 report, and "The Grand Chessboard," a book published a few years earlier by Trilateral Commission co-founder Zbigniew Brzezinski, both recommended a more robust and imperial US military presence in the oil basin of the Middle East and the Caspian region; and that both also suggested that American public support for this energy crusade would depend on public response to a new "Pearl Harbor," is not "theory." It's fact.

That, in the 1960s, the Joint Chiefs of Staff unanimously approved a plan called "Operation Northwoods," to stage terrorist attacks on American soil that could be used to justify an invasion of Cuba; and that there is currently an office in the Pentagon whose function is to instigate terrorist attacks that could be used to justify future strategically-desired military responses, is not a "theory." It's fact.

That neither the accusation by former British Environmental Minister Michael Meacher, Tony Blair's longest-serving cabinet minister, that George W Bush allowed the 9/11 attacks to happen to justify an oil war in the Middle East; nor the RICO lawsuit filed by 9/11 widow Ellen Mariani against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the Council on Foreign Relations (among others), on the grounds that they conspired to let the attacks happen to cash in on the ensuing war profiteering, has captured the slightest attention from American corporate media is not a "theory." It's fact.

That the FBI has completely exonerated—though never identified—the speculators who purchased, a few days before the attacks (through a bank whose previous director is now the CIA executive director), an unusual number of "put" options, and who made millions betting that the stocks in American and United Airlines would crash, is not a "theory." It's fact.

That the US intelligence community received numerous warnings, from multiple sources, throughout the summer of 2001, that a major terrorist attack on American interests was imminent; that, according to the chair of the "independent" 9/11 commission, the attacks "could have and should have been prevented," and according to a Senate Intelligence Committee member, "All the dots were connected;" that the White House has verified George W Bush's personal knowledge, as of August 6, 2001, that these terrorist attacks might be domestic and might involve hijacked airliners; that, in the summer of 2001, at the insistence of the American Secret Service, anti-aircraft ordnance was installed around the city of Genoa, Italy, to defend against a possible terrorist suicide attack, by aircraft, against George W Bush, who was attending the economic summit there; and that George W Bush has nevertheless regaled audiences with his first thought upon seeing the "first" plane hit the World Trade Center, which was: "What a terrible pilot," is not "theory." It's fact.

That, on the morning of September 11, 2001: standard procedures and policies at the nation's air defense and aviation bureaucracies were ignored, and communications were delayed; the black boxes of the planes that hit the WTC were destroyed, but hijacker Mohammed Atta's passport was found in pristine condition; high-ranking Pentagon officers had cancelled their commercial flight plans for that morning; George H.W. Bush was meeting in Washington with representatives of Osama bin Laden's family, and other investors in the world's largest private equity firm, the Carlyle Group; the CIA was conducting a previously-scheduled mock exercise of an airliner hitting the Pentagon; the chairs of both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees were having breakfast with the chief of Pakistan's intelligence agency, who resigned a week later on suspicion of involvement in the 9/11 attacks; and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the United States sat in a second grade classroom for 20 minutes after hearing that a second plane had struck the towers, listening to children read a story about a goat, is not "theoretical." These are facts.

That the Bush administration has desperately fought every attempt to independently investigate the events of 9/11, is not a "theory."

"Theory?" To the contrary.

It is a well-documented, tragic and—especially if you're paranoid—terrifying fact.

Michael Hasty is a writer, activist, musician, carpenter and farmer. His award-winning column, "Thinking Locally," appeared for seven years in the Hampshire Review, West Virginia's oldest newspaper. 5. Anyone who has looked at Goebbels
principals of propaganda can see that this administration is operating by them. And, yes, sometimes CT's can be baseless, but there are times when it is crucial to investigate a theory rather than brush it aside. The media's time would be well spent looking into some of the allegations of misconduct/fraud/etc on the part of Bush&Co rather than focusing on Britney, Bryant and the Peterson case.

7. Song of Choice
Early every year the seeds are growing
Unseen, unheard they lie beneath the ground
Would you know before their leaves are showing
That with weeds all your garden will abound?

If you close your eyes, stop your ears
Shut your mouth then how can you know ?
For seeds you cannot hear may not be there
Seeds you cannot see may never grow

In January you've still got the choice
You can cut the weeds before they start to bud
If you leave them to grow high they'll silence your voice
And in December you may pay with your blood

So close your eyes, stop your ears,
Shut your mouth and take it slow
Let others take the lead and you bring up the rear
And later you can say you didn't know

Every day another vulture takes flight
There's another danger born every morning
In the darkness of your blindness the beast will learn to bite
How can you fight if you can't recognise a warning?

Today you may earn a living wage
Tomorrow you may be on the dole
Though there's millions going hungry you needn't disengage
For it's them, not you, that's fallen in the hole

It's alright for you if you run with the pack
It's alright if you agree with all they do

If fascism is slowly climbing back

It's not here yet so what's it got to do with you?

The weeds are all around us and they're growing
It'll soon be too late for the knife
If you leave them on the wind that around the world is blowing
You may pay for your silence with your life

So close your eyes, stop your ears,
Shut your mouth and never dare
And if it happens here they'll never come for you
Because they'll know you really didn't care

9. I was just thinking to myself as I got up this morning
that if we're able to evict George Bush from office, our work has only begun. Again and again, these fascists (and that's not hyperbole) have just taken the time out of power to strengthen their network and, presumably, their plans. The one thing we must not do is get complacent about the Bushes if Kerry is in office.

"...our work has only begun. Again and again, these fascists (and that's not hyperbole) have just taken the time out of power to strengthen their network and, presumably, their plans."

I couldn't agree more, it was something like 2 years ago when it suddenly dawned on me how organized they are, how strong is their hold on the reins of power, how unyielding they are and always have been. And there is a real danger that -- IF we win in November -- we will allow the euphoria of victory squander our energy to keep fighting against this deep darkness in the soul of our nation.

And I just want to say, Eloriel, how much I appreciate your contributions to this board. Your research and insights are stellar.

Unpaid gas bill : US Ambassador evicted from Regents Park

(From Our Man at the Hanover Gate building site, Tuesday). Bailiffs, accompanied by officers of the Metropolitan Police Special Branch, this morning executed a search and evict warrant at Winfield House in the slightly prestigious Outer Circle area of Regents Park and led away US Ambassador Will "Stamps" Farish III and his wife Sarah, allegedly for non-payment of three years of power bills.

8. very very funny
from your link

Amid scenes of near hysteria from the eyesore building site opposite the ambassadorial residency, construction workers downed tools and chanted "Da Do Ron Enron, Da Do Enron" as a Metropolitan Police Black Mariah whisked the Ambassador and his wife away to a secure interrogation unit in Paddington's Edgware Road, last used as a hospitality suite for Abu Hamza.

Later in the morning, locksmiths arrived and proceeded to change all the security fittings on the buildings, as a police escort supervised a fleet of skip lorries that hauled the Farishes' personal belongings including a Ronald Reagan Tea Set from the Franklin Mint and signed photographs of Jeff Skilling and Ken Lay

10. US Ambassador to England Inherited "Auschwitz" money (Farish)
US Ambassador to England Inherited "Auschwitz" money (Farish)

If you do not know about William Farish III, there is a reason. The man is VERY private and most Americans have never heard of him. Yet, his power is immense and his fortunes from his grandfather are tied directly to the bushes, as well as the Nazi party.

Unfortunately, only the print edition of the NYT shows his picture standing in the middle of GWB and Prince Charles as an introducer. This is the NYT article related to this most recent incident...

Lost in all the white ties and tails, cavalry parades and antiwar protests of President Bush's trip to London last week was a reticent multimillionaire American racehorse breeder, William S. Farish. His day job is the United States ambassador to Britain, and his credentials include very close ties to the Bush family.

How close? Well, not only did Mr. Farish manage the elder George Bush's blind trusts when he became vice president, but he gave him his springer spaniel, Millie, and Mr. Farish later had her mated at his lush Kentucky horse farm. Among the puppies was Spot, the 13-year-old dog of the current President Bush.

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/11/24/politics/24LETT.html

More importantly, however, is background history of the Farish family. As Prescott Bush escaped penalty for his treason, William Farish, Sr. did not. Here is some background info, but a thorough reading of these Nazi sympathizers is mandatory to understanding what we are up against.

When George Bush was elected Vice President in 1980, Texas mystery man William (`` Will '') Stamps Farish III took over management of all of George Bush's personal wealth in a `` blind trust. '' Known as one of the richest men in Texas, Will Farish keeps his business affairs under the most intense secrecy. Only the source of his immense wealth is known, not its employment.@s3

Will Farish has long been Bush's closest friend and confidante. He is also the unique private host to Britain's Queen Elizabeth II: Farish owns and boards the studs which mate with the Queen's mares. That is her public rationale when she comes to America and stays in Farish's house. It is a vital link in the mind of our Anglophile President.

President Bush can count on Will Farish not to betray the violent secrets surrounding the Bush family money. For Farish's own family fortune was made in the same Hitler project, in a nightmarish partnership with George Bush's father.

Indeed, Farish's (the grandfather), activities in supplying patents to the Nazis while withholding the same patents from US govt, were described by Senator Truman as, `` I think this approaches treason. ''@s1@s7
http://www.tarpley.net/bush3.htm

And the rest is history...

While Prescott Bush escaped publicity when the government seized his Nazi banking organization in October, Farish had been nailed. He collapsed and died of a heart attack on Nov. 29, 1942.

The Farish family was devastated by the exposure. Son William Stamps Farish, Jr., a lieutenant in the Army Air Force, was humiliated by the public knowledge that his father was fueling the enemy's aircraft; he died in a training accident in Texas six months later.@s2@s0

With this double death, the fortune comprising much of Standard Oil's profits from Texas and Nazi Germany was now to be settled upon the little four-year-old grandson, William (`` Will '') Stamps Farish III. Will Farish grew up a recluse, the most secretive multi-millionaire in Texas, with investments of `` that money '' in a multitude of foreign countries, and a host of exotic contacts overlapping the intelligence and financial worlds--particularly in Britain.

I posted something about this just a few days ago.

I wasn't familiar with the name Farish until I happened to connect an article in The Guardian with the Unauthorized Biography reference you cited above.

Below is an annotated copy of my post.

* * * * * * * * * *

One of several articles in The Guardian that caught my attention during George W. Bush's historic state visit was "Don't mention the war - stick to horsess" http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,1089033,00.html

Political editor Michael White wrote, "It is a pretty good bet that the one safe topic of conversation between President George Bush and his immediate neighbours beneath Buckingham Palace's chandeliers will have been horses.

"As guest of honour at last night's state banquet, the president was placed on the right of the Queen, his host and fellow-rancher. That put him within easy chatting distance of the equestrian Princess Anne and the horsey Duke of Edinburgh, who shared the task of looking after Laura Bush with the Prince of Wales, a retired polo player and pro-Palestinian.

"Best to stick to horses then. Among other guests, the scope for pratfalls was barely less extensive. Palace officials placed the golfing Prince Andrew between the non-golfing David Blunkett and the wife of the low-profile US ambassador, William Farish."

It sounds like the author wasn't aware of the Farish connection. His article lists one of the guests as William Farish, US ambassador to London.

Is this the same Farish mentioned in "The Unauthorized Biography of George Bush"?:

http://www.govsux.com/chapter3.htm

"When George Bush was elected Vice President in 1980, Texas mystery man William (`` Will '') Stamps Farish III took over management of all of George Bush's personal wealth in a `` blind trust. '' Known as one of the richest men in Texas, Will Farish keeps his business affairs under the most intense secrecy. Only the source of his immense wealth is known, not its employment.@s3

He is also the unique private host to Britain's Queen Elizabeth II: Farish owns and boards the studs which mate with the Queen's mares. That is her public rationale when she comes to America and stays in Farish's house. It is a vital link in the mind of our Anglophile President."

According to an article at http://www.tabletnewspaper.com/old%20tablet/vol1iss1/grassy11.htm, another William Farish was an oil giant and Nazi business partner.

I haven't yet had time to really get a handle on the Farishes, but it sounds like there may be quite a story here. That is, the Farishes may have been discussed in some depth in books and perhaps even on this forum, but it sounds like even The Guardian missed a big story a couple days ago!

* * * * * * * * * *

I really was surprised that The Guardian missed a scoop like this. You'd think their political columnists would be up to date on the Bush clan!

and thank you for your post. The Farish family has been tight with the bushes going back to Prescott.

And where is the Jewish community? Why are they not screaming that our present US Ambassador to England inherited his money from the bones of their ancestors?

Farish on hand to introduce President Bush to Prince Charles

Prominent owner and breeder William S. Farish introduced President George Bush and first lady Laura Bush to Prince Charles after Air Force One arrived at London’s Heathrow Airport on Tuesday.

Farish, the United States Ambassador to Great Britain and Northern Ireland, played a key role in arranging President Bush’s trip, according to the Washington Post.

Close ties between Queen Elizabeth II and Farish are, in part, attributed to their shared interest in the racing industry, the Post reports. The queen sends mares to Farish’s Lane’s End near Versailles, Kentucky, and she has visited the farm.

More on Farish

I did some investigation of his family several months ago and found a number of very interesting connections.

Farish's wife is the former Sarah Sharp, daughter of Bayard Sharp (1913-2002), a close friend of George H.W. and Barbara Bush. Bayard's mother was Isabella Mathieu du Pont, whose three brothers successively headed E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company between 1915 and 1940. They were admirers of Hitler, funded multiple fascist organizations in the US, and were behind the plot to overthrow FDR in 1934.

Farish's mother was Mary Wood, daughter of General Robert E. Wood, who was chairman of the isolationist America First Committee in 1940 and became a prominent figure in the extreme right after World War II. Wood corresponded extensively with Senator Joseph McCarthy and supported many right-wing groups, particularly in Texas. He was also in touch with a group of revisionist historians who were pushing the notion that Roosevelt had sold out to the Soviet Union and that the State Department had deliberately handed China over to the communists.

Farish's aunt, Martha Botts Farish, was married to Edward Harriman Gerry, nephew of Averell Harriman and brother of Elbridge Gerry, who was a partner in Brown Brothers Harriman & Company. That marriage seems to have been a major factor in bringing the Farishes and the Bushes together, although they were already acquainted through the oil industry.

Farish's grandmother, the wife of William Stamps Farish, Sr., was Libbie Botts Rice. That's Botts as in the lawfirm of Baker and Botts, of which her grandfather was a co-founder, and Rice as in Rice University, which in the century since its founding has persistently been tied in with Houston oil interests. (In recent years, Rice was closely entangled with Enron.)

Libbie's sister, Ella Botts Rice, was briefly married to Howard Hughes in the 1920's, just after he had inherited the rights to a drill bit which his father had invented and which was essential to the oil industry. While Hughes was a minor, his assets were controlled by the Rice Board of Directors.

And, for what it's worth, the elder Farish's great-grandmother was the sister of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

Altogether, a very strange and powerful family.

"Ain't nobody here but us chickens."

Unknown Known

Great research! Thanks for this and it explains much...

Especially the Harriman connection and the Botts connection which is the connection to James Baker III. I've often wondered if he isn't related to the bushes in a distant way.

Mind you, and this is a bit off-subject, but not, that these ancestors were all eugenicists, thus the Hitler-connection.

Saturday 12 June 2004, 6:09 Makka Time, 3:09 GMT

Former US Secretary of State James Baker has resigned as the UN's special envoy to Western Sahara after efforts to resolve the disputed territory's future failed.

Baker, deeply frustrated by his inability to end the impasse during his seven year tenure, told UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan of his intention to resign several days ago, but the Security Council was not formally notified until Friday, UN diplomats said.

Also, someone help me out here, please. Remember it was Farish's horse War Emblem (what an ironic twist of a name) who won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in 2002. There was a bizarre story about an Arab connected (part owner perhaps?) with War Emblem dying at a fairly young age. I've tried to Google it but can't come up with anything.

21. BUSH FLIES SAUDI RACEHORSE OWNER WITH PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE 9-11 ATTACK O
BUSH FLIES SAUDI RACEHORSE OWNER WITH PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE 9-11 ATTACK OUT OF THE COUNTRY

Prince Ahmed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, owner of War Emblem (who won the first two of three Triple Crown races in 2002) was at the top of the list of a group of well-connected Saudis who left the country from Lexington, KY in a luxurious customized 727 shortly after 9-11. According to one of bin Laden’s top operatives, Aziz knew well beforehand that a major attack was to take place in the US on 9-11. And the Bush administration let the bastard fly the coop. The very fact that a couple of hundred Saudis were flying around within the US to central pickup points like Lexington, while US citizens were prohibited from flying from Minneapolis to Chicago is totally outrageous.

On March 30, 2002, Al Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah was captured in Pakistan and questioned by two teams of intelligence agents. One of the teams consisted of Arab Americans posing as Saudi agents, who hoped to scare Zubaydah into thinking he would be turned over to the Saudis for the usual torture and beheading. Far from being intimidated, Zubaydah was relieved, and told them that a call to Prince Ahmed would explain all—and he knew all the phone numbers from memory. He also told them to call Prince Sultan bin Faisal bin Turki al-Saud and Prince Fahd bin Turki bin Saud al-Kabir, members of the House of Saud related to Kind Fahd.

He said that several years earlier the royal family had made a deal with Al Qaeda in which the House of Saud would aid them as long as they kept terrorism out of Saudi Arabia. The interrogators insisted that 9-11 changed everything—the House of Saud would not stand behind them after that.

Zubaydah said that 9-11 changed nothing, because Ahmed and the others knew beforehand that an attack was scheduled for America that day. They didn’t know exactly what it would be, and they didn’t want to know. Bin Laden knew the Saudis couldn’t stop it without the specifics, and also that they couldn’t turn on him without disclosing their foreknowledge.

Bush helped Ahmed leave the country right after 9-11, unmolested until June 22, 2002, when he supposedly died of a heart attack in his sleep. On June 23, Prince Sultan died in a car wreck. On July 30, Prince Fahd died in the desert of thirst. None was older than 43, and all are beyond questioning now. That these three were named by Zubaydah and then died young a couple of months later is extremely suspicious.

DELIBERATELY FACILITATING THE MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE WHO KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT 9-11 OUT OF THE COUNTRY BEFORE THEY COULD BE QUESTIONED MAKES THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION ACCESSORIES AFTER THE FACT. REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

THE 9/11 CONSPIRACY BOMBSHELL THAT CANNOT BE DENIED!!!

If you read one thing this week, read this entire article.

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1101030908-480226,00....

By March 2002, the terrorist called Abu Zubaydah was one of the most wanted men on earth. A leading member of Osama bin Laden's brain trust, he is thought to have been in operational control of al-Qaeda's millennium bomb plots as well as the attack on the U.S.S. Cole in October 2000. Seventeen months ago, the U.S. finally grabbed Zubaydah in Pakistan and has kept him locked up in a secret location ever since.

(snip)

When questioning stalled, according to Posner, cia men flew Zubaydah to an Afghan complex fitted out as a fake Saudi jail chamber, where "two Arab-Americans, now with Special Forces," pretending to be Saudi inquisitors, used drugs and threats to scare him into more confessions. Yet when Zubaydah was confronted by the false Saudis, writes Posner, "his reaction was not fear, but utter relief." Happy to see them, he reeled off telephone numbers for a senior member of the royal family who would, said Zubaydah, "tell you what to do." The man at the other end would be Prince Ahmed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, a Westernized nephew of King Fahd's and a publisher better known as a racehorse owner. His horse War Emblem won the Kentucky Derby in 2002.

Zubaydah, writes Posner, said the Saudi connection ran through Prince Turki al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, the kingdom's longtime intelligence chief. Zubaydah said bin Laden "personally" told him of a 1991 meeting at which Turki agreed to let bin Laden leave Saudi Arabia and to provide him with secret funds as long as al-Qaeda refrained from promoting jihad in the kingdom. The Pakistani contact, high-ranking air force officer Mushaf Ali Mir, entered the equation, Zubaydah said, at a 1996 meeting in Pakistan also attended by Zubaydah. Bin Laden struck a deal with Mir, then in the military but tied closely to Islamists in Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (isi), to get protection, arms and supplies for al-Qaeda. Zubaydah told interrogators bin Laden said the arrangement was "blessed by the Saudis."

(snip)

The last eight paragraphs of the book set up a final startling development. Those three Saudi princes all perished within days of one another. On July 22, 2002, Prince Ahmed was felled by a heart attack at age 43. One day later Prince Sultan bin Faisal bin Turki al-Saud, 41, was killed in what was called a high-speed car accident. The last member of the trio, Prince Fahd bin Turki bin Saud al-Kabir, officially "died of thirst" while traveling east of Riyadh one week later. And seven months after that, Mushaf Ali Mir, by then Pakistan's Air Marshal, perished in a plane crash in clear weather over the unruly North-West Frontier province, along with his wife and closest confidants.

The information about Prince Turki negotiating a deal with...

...bin Laden was previously made public. It was included in the official complaint of the 600 September 11th families who filed suit against the Saudis in 2002.

From http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/3873496.htm :

-snip-

The complaint, based on information from an investigative team paid for by the plaintiffs, names three prominent members of the Saudi royal family: Princes Turki al Faisal al Saud, Sultan bin Abdul Aziz al Saud and Mohammed al Faisal al Saud. It alleges that Prince Sultan, the Saudi minister of defense and aviation, has donated at least $6 million since 1994 to four Islamic charities that allegedly supported al Qaeda.

The suit also alleges Turki al Faisal al Saud, a powerful former Saudi intelligence chief, worked against the proposed extradition of bin Laden and other al Qaeda members from Afghanistan to Saudi Arabia in 1998. In return, the suit alleges, bin Laden agreed not to undermine the Saudi government.

-snip-

TomNickell

This is consistent with much other information...

Involvement of the Saudi elites with Bin Laden and other terrorism has been clear for a long time. This is the first account to give names and places.

stickdog

I really don't care who the messenger is. And a lot of the article reads

like disinfo -- especially the part about the fake Saudi jail and the US agents being so damn stunned that Zubaydah was tied in with the Saudis.

However, this paragraph can't be spun ups down of sideways:

Those three Saudi princes all perished within days of one another. On July 22, 2002, Prince Ahmed was felled by a heart attack at age 43. One day later Prince Sultan bin Faisal bin Turki al-Saud, 41, was killed in what was called a high-speed car accident. RainDog
I remember when those princes died

all within days of each other.

I remember hearing it spun as a power struggle within the House of Saud.

The horrible irony of America's situation at this moment, as Robert Baer, former intel has noted, as the two French journalists in Forbidden Truth have noted, as Greg Palast has noted, as Sy Hersh has noted in his New Yorker articles...

the horrible truth is that the Bush junta is in bed with the Saudis who sponsor terrorism, and with Pakistan.

Both of these totalitarian regimes have made deals with their extremist factions to maintain power. The Bushies know this, and yet they cannot admit it to the American public because of their own complicity with these people.

That's not LIHOP or MIHOP. That's about money. Oil money and pipelines.

Posner may very well be talking for the pro-Likkudites within the Bush administration, but I think the underlying realities are true.

Bush has too many conflicts of interest to work for the good of America. But if the Saudis pull their money out of the US, no doubt many Americans would suffer for it.

But again, another blowback for foreign policy decisions based upon hawk idiocy and an unwillingness on the part of the US to let other countries decide their own fates.

that's what's gotten us into this mess.

bpilgrim

it certainly reads as if perel or wolfowitz of arabia was standing over

the REAL ISSUE is this admin too hopelessly COMPROMISED with their WELL KNOWN historical and current TIES to the SAUDIS?

I read Posner the way a

Kremlinologist would have read Pravda 30 years ago. I think his book is part of the "let's turn on the Saudis" rollout. That's not to deny Saudi complicity - hell, we've known their hands are dirty all along - just that the time is now to begin demonizing them. The 28 pages were redacted to protect Bush more than the Saudis, but that's not how it was played. Coming, sooner or later: taking the "Saudi" out of "Saudi Arabia," and seizure of the oil fields.

TIME and Posner are used to loft ideals up on deck

Triangulating info let out does work though, like the ideal that Bin Laden could not have done it alone. The story tries to work up on some elaborate story to get to this paragraph

Which only indicates to me that they are caving on the Bin laden acting alone, which is never been proven he acted at all.

This little link explains a lot I think

23. no one has even asked why the princes were in Tampa on 9/11!
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 08:54 AM by seemslikeadream
The reporting of Dan Hopsicker (Madcowprod.com, 12-26-2001), delves deeply into what a Tampa Tribune headline called, “The Phantom Flight from Florida,” wherein a Saudi prince - the son of the nation’s defense minister - as well as the son of a Saudi army commander took off in a twin-engine Lear jet just two days after the September 11 attacks, when every other plane in the United States was grounded. Moreover, Hopsicker made a special point that the Federal Government said the flight never happened despite the Tribune’s glaring headline. Meanwhile no one has even asked why the princes were in Tampa on 9/11!

The two Saudi princes flew to Lexington, Kentucky where other Saudi princes were purchasing racehorses; and from there, they flew a private 747 jet out of the country. But two armed bodyguards hired by the Saudis to get the princes out of Florida told Hopsicker that the Saudi plane took off from a private hanger at Raytheon Airport Services in Tampa.

Hopsicker’s report ultimately traced the ownership of the Lear Jet to Wally Hilliard, who is a partner of Rudi Dekkers, owner of the Venice, Florida flight school where most of the Saudi terrorists developed their airplane hijacking skills. Hopsicker added that the local police had collected all the files detailing Dekkers’ relationships and business with the hijackers - including the Alghamdi terrorists.

But according to one local law enforcement official, “The FBI took all our files, everything.” Then he added that, “they loaded two Ryder trucks right outside that (police station) window, then drove them right onto a C130 military cargo plane at Sarasota airport which flew out with Jeb Bush aboard.” Is Hopsicker striking a presidential nerve?

Within hours of the September 11 attack authorities concluded that the terrorist pilots had shown such unusual skill in maneuvering commercial airliners toward their targets that at least one hijacker on each jet must have been trained right here in the U.S. They were right.

Cut to Venice, Florida. Middle of the night. The FBI swarms. Local police do the grunt work. Under bright klieg lights they carry away boxes upon boxes of records from Rudi Dekkers flight school.

Remember Rudi? "I don't need anything from you, just a check to start flying," said Dekkers, who likened flying lessons to shopping for groceries. "We're just a business."

The next day, the FBI is back again at the Venice Airport, this time down the block at Arne Kruithof’s flight school. "It's really just coincidence that terrorists chose such a place (as Venice) to be their training ground for the unspeakable," says Venice City Manager George Hunt.

Determining whether that statement is true is complicated by the fact that the FBI has confiscated everything in sight looking remotely like evidence.

And the FBI isn’t talking. "The FBI took all our files, everything," said one local law enforcement official, after shaking his head ruefully when we asked if Rudi had any local ‘priors.’

He shrugs. He can’t tell. His files are now All Gone. "They loaded two Ryder trucks right outside that (police station) window, then drove them right onto a C130 military cargo plane at Sarasota airport which flew out with Jeb Bush aboard."

AND

September 11, 2001: Within hours of the attacks, Florida governor and the President's brother Jeb Bush signs an executive order: "I hereby declare that a state of emergency exists in the State of Florida." This order is declared faster than any other state, even New York or Washington, DC, and carries much greater powers. (Jeb Bush Executive Order, 9/11/01)

9. How to get a "protected" web page

This is for people with Internet Explorer. I'm pretty sure that the major browsers have similar function.

1. Go to the menu bar. Click on VIEW.

2. The VIEW menu will drop down. Click on SOURCE (it's about 2/3rds of the way down.

3. You'll see the HTML source. There is usually some script in the HEAD section of the HTML page. Delete everything between <HEAD> and </HEAD>

4. In some pages, you'll have to go through and delete every piece of JavaScript code you see. Alternately, you can just cut-and-paste the body of the text into a fresh HTML template. Save it as an HTML file, like "Flocco.html"

5. Open the new file with your browser.

It didn't take much to get a readable, savable copy of Mr. Flocco's page. I have no idea why people do this, since anyone is allowed to copy anything for personal academic purposes, and anybody with a little experience in web technology can easily save it.

If it's so damn important, don't release it in digital form.

30. Re: Tampa. NOW you're on to something! Your quote from Eloriel
on #4 applies.

It may not be generally common knowledge but a single individual (US/UK parentage) owns the world's largest liduid natural gas (LNG)well located near Tampa, Florida, which powers a massive electricity generator supplying up to 40% of the State of Florida's power needs. That generator is jointly owned with the LNG well proprietor's spouse.
To say they are reclusive and shun publicity is like saying Greta Garbo was a bit quiet and housebound.

A small percentage of shareholding in the generator plant was sold in the early 1980s (82/83) to a conglomerate representing the State of Florida Pension Fund - mainly public sector employees. It was floated on the NY Stock Exchange and Bank of America (Florida) was principal mover in the deal.

The next nearest explorable LNG wells are located in the Everglades which, as is publicly acknowledged, is a protected heritage site.

It is perhaps no co-incidence that when 9/11 was first reported Junior's words were: "We'll have to drain the swamp"........

To Eloriel's excellent menu of BFEE KNOWN/RECORDED criminal atrocities add 30 years of attempting to steal the ownership of the Tampa LNG well, repeated murder attempts, attempts to frame them for terrorist atrocities committed by the BFEE gang, a series of private/civil US and UK lawsuits to try to procure the ownership of the LNG and electicity generator plant via perversions of the course of justice and legal system, etc. To my knowledge all attempts by the BFEE to claim any ownership of the LNG well or the generator plant have failed dismally. The owners retain their rights. But lead a very low profile existence.

However, Back to the day's story: Farish's gargoyle wife Sarah has been involved in a bitter legal slanging match IN London with the proprietors of the Tampa well. Material not available in the public domain shows she has had deep personal connections with the now disgraced ex-Poodle Crony Lord Derry Irvine, who was so publicly dumped from his job as Lord Chancellor last year.

The latest allegations to surface at the Foreign Correspondents' Club in Pall Mall, London all centre on a case heard in camera in the UK libel courts which Sarah Farish has just lost. Allegations include that Derry Irvine engineered the gagging of civil and criminal litigation results in the UK courts that were relevant to the defendant in the case where Sarah Farish was suing to "protect her good name". IE, Irvine suborned precedent law suit outcomes so the defendant was unable to draw upon what was already established in the legal public domain.

An out of court settlement reached last Friday means she has had to pay out an undiclosed sum to the lawsuit defendant. Her husband's hurried resignation that evening may well be connected to this matter.

And another thing: Sarah Farish has had personal busines links with the failed French media giant Vivendi, whose chief executive Jean-Marie Messier was arrested today. The arrest follows a probe into Vivendi ex-finance chief Guillaume Hannezo launched earlier this month.

More on the Vivendi:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3825523.stm

Which makes me think the Farish resignation is merely the tip of an iceberg that's going to sink something titanic in the next few weeks. Like the BFEE.

33. Is there a Farish-Saudi connection via racehorses?
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 11:44 AM by starroute
"Mr Farish, a businessman with close ties to the Bush family and a personal friend of the Queen, is expected to return to Kentucky in July where he is a leading racehorse breeder." (original post)

"The two Saudi princes flew to Lexington, Kentucky where other Saudi princes were purchasing racehorses; and from there, they flew a private 747 jet out of the country." (Quote from Hopsicker in post #23)

I just did a quick Google on Farish, Saudis, and racehorses. I found one page at http://www.dogwoodstable.com/asp/content.asp?id=124&t=news&cat=Summer%20Squall which mentions a Saudi prince buying a racehorse whose sire was 25% owned by Farish. And there was a story from March 10, 2003 at http://www.breedingracing.com/indnewsmar.php# which states "Meanwhile William Farish, US Ambassador to Great Britain & one of the most powerful figures in American racing (as owner of Kentucky’s famous Lanes End Farm), has 'expressed doubts about the Dubai World Cup meeting being held as planned on March 29, due to the threat of war with Iraq,' reported aapracingandsports.com.au."

I don't want to make too big a deal of this, but horse breeding is something that definitely connects Farish with the Saudis and other wealthy Arabs -- and on a much more personal and ongoing basis than his oil background. Horse breeding is also the basis of Farish's friendship with Queen Elizabeth.

It's my strong conviction that the most powerful people in the world still operate under something like feudalism, where marriage ties, personal friendships, and shared interests count for a lot more than formal relationships through government or business. Silly as it may seem, the Saudi racehorse connection might be worth taking a look at -- not because there's anything sinister about it in itself, but because it could be a good indication of other things going on under the surface.

On edit: Horse breeding also has a number of interesting symbolic resonances -- from its feudal/knightly associations to its parallels with the eugenics schemes that Prescott Bush supported. One of the more disquieting aspects of the Bush/Farish/Du Pont set is the impression one gets that they'd be perfectly happy to take us all back to a state of medieval aristocracy, so long as they were the aristocrats.

the horse business can get so nasty.

What they did to Helen was kids stuff.

The investigation into the disappearance of candy empire heiress Helen Brach was truly like opening a box of expensive chocolates investigators had no idea what they were getting until they took a bite. When they did, a high-profile missing person's case grew into a complex plot involving top-flight show horses, con artists, arson, insurance fraud, 25-year-old murders and the possibility of an animal-loving victim who literally went to the dogs.

Helen Voorhees Brach

Brach disappeared in 1977 - her body has never been found although she was declared dead in 1984 - but indictments and trials stirred up by revelations unearthed in the investigation are still being filed. Though one man is in prison for life for soliciting her murder, authorities are no closer today to answering the question: What happened to Helen Brach?

Police, private investigators and journalists have all weighed in with theories, and filmmaker Oliver Stone has been talking about doing a movie about Brach for some time now. There is no shortage of suspects with motives that all center on the same thing. Greed. When she disappeared, Brach was worth more than $20 million and that much money can make murder look like a very sweet deal indeed.

Greed clearly has a place in the strange case of Helen Brach. Helen had money and everyone around her wanted some of it. She was generous to a fault, although some said she cared more for animals than people. Surrounded by people always with their hand out, who could blame her? All Helen wanted was to indulge her lifelong dream of owning horses. What she got was much more sinister.

With so many twists and subplots to explore, people will be talking about the disappearance of Helen Brach for a long, long time. It is likely, however that the tragic disappearance of the former hat-check girl who fell in love with the candy magnate will remain a classic unsolved crime.

with the late Prince Fahd Salman and Prince Ahmed Salman (nephews of King Fahd bin Abdel-Aziz al-Saud) who both died unexpectedly in 2001 and 2002 respectively: Salman accused of terrorism and some conspiracy specialists reckon he was murdered. There was a lot of news about Prince Salman (Thoroughbred Corporation) being involved in terrorism---one report says one of Al Qaeda gave up two memorized phone numbers, and both were for cell phones belonging to the Prince. He was only 45, and the news reports says he died of a heart attack, even though he did not have a history of this kind. Anybody around the tracks hear anything about this, or if this is being covered up?

I believe the worst of bin Salman's offenses was passively allowing the papers he owned to be sympathetic to anti-americanism, nothing more. No one has produced any documents of substance linking him to terrorism, he has a brother who is currently working hard to clear bin Salman's name.

He was a wealthy Saudi...thus, a blanket of suspicion was bound to fall. If it comes out from a reliable that he had a connection beyond what I have mentioned, I'll gladly admit I was wrong.

Ahmed's Obit:

Prince Ahmed bin Salman 1958 - 2002

Date: 07/22/02

On Monday, July 22, 2002, the racing world was stunned by the announcement of the death of 43-year-old Prince Ahmed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the principal partner of the Thoroughbred Corporation, from a heart attack. His green and white striped silks are well-recognized worldwide, most recently in his four consecutive Triple Crown victories with Point Given taking the Preakness and Belmont last year and War Emblem capturing the Kentucky Derby and Preakness this year.

The nephew of Saudi Arabia's King Fahd was born on November 17, 1958. After studying in both the military and the University of California at Irvine he went into business, eventually becoming chairman of Saudi Arabia's Research and Marketing Group, a publishing company with offices in Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and also in London, England.

With his college friend Richard Mulhall as trainer, he got into the racing business initially as Universal Stable. In 1994 when the operation resurfaced as The Thoroughbred Corporation, with Mulhall retiring as a trainer and taking on the job of racing manager. Mulhall is currently the president of the operation.

Prince Ahmed celebrates War Emblem's win in the Preakness
The pair would go on to racing greatness, both with sales purchases and homebreds. The Thoroughbred Corp.'s roster reads like a who's who of racing in the past decade, with such greats as Sharp Cat, Lear Fan, Jewel Princess, Windsharp, Military, Royal Anthem, Anees, Officer, Habibti, Spain, 2001 Horse of the Year Point Given, and this year's dual classic winner War Emblem. The Prince also had success in Europe, starting with his very first horse, Hays, who won the Mill Reef Stakes and Oath who won the Epsom Derby. Currently Thoroughbred Corp. has approximately 60 horses in training mostly stabled with Bob Baffert, D. Wayne Lukas, and John Shireffs, along with 45 broodmares, mostly at Mill Ridge Farm in Lexington.

His name will always be associated with War Emblem, his one Kentucky Derby winner, which he quipped was "one of the best investments I ever made in my life, besides buying oil in Saudi Arabia," after he won the Preakness. He bought a 90% share in the colt just three weeks before the Derby, and with the win, became the first Arab owner to capture the Roses.

Bob Baffert, who trained Point Given and War Emblem, said, "When you go through a Triple Crown together you get really close. He was like family. His passion for horses was incredible -- he lived and breathed them." Point Given's regular rider Gary Stevens said, "We were very close friends outside of racing. He was a guy who loved to laugh and loved a good time. He had major flair and loved the game and was continuing to grow in the sport. At 43, everybody was looking forward to him having a long, long career in the industry and he was definitely a boost to thoroughbred racing." Churchill Downs president Tom Meeker said, "The horses he campaigned proved themselves champions on and off the track, and their star power generated much positive attention for our sport. The prince's commitment to racing was unwavering, and his infectious enthusiasm for the game will be greatly missed. Prince Salman held the Kentucky Derby in the highest esteem -- he loved and appreciated the Derby's legacy as much as we do. Churchill Downs -- and all of racing -- has lost a remarkable horsemen and true fan." He is survived by his wife Princess Lamia, four daughters, and one son.

Also of interest:

"Understanding the Bormann organization is essential to comprehending the concept of “the Underground Reich.”) A brutal irony about the name of a prize racehorse gives this program its title. Owned by Prince Ahmed—one of the members of the Saudi royal family allowed to leave the U.S. right after the 9/11 attacks without being adequately interrogated—War Emblem won two thirds of horse racing’s famed Triple Crown. In the spring of 2002, War Emblem won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, and Mr. Emory noted at the time that the horse’s name was ironic in light of documented support by wealthy Saudis for Al Qaeda. This program highlights allegations that Prince Ahmed was one of three members of the Saudi royal family who functioned as liaison personnel to Al Qaeda. This information was allegedly disclosed during the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah—a key Bin Laden aide.

Program Highlights Include: The precipitous deaths of all three members of the Saudi Royal family (named by Zubaydah) over the space of eight days in 2002; the suspicious air crash that took the life of the head of the Pakistani air force—also alleged by Abu Zubaydah to be in the pay of Bin Laden; the unusual interrogation methods allegedly employed by the CIA to obtain the information provided by Abu Zubaydah."

and

"2. Among the other evacuees was Prince Ahmad bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz—the owner of War Emblem, the horse that won two thirds of horseracing’s triple crown in 2002. (Obviously, that horse is the subject of the program’s title.) “There is nothing to connect the two Alhazmis directly. But the hijacker Nawaf had already been connected in press stories to the Saudi royal family, as the recipient of funds coming indirectly from the wife of Prince Bandar, the Saudi Ambassador to the United States. ‘Scandal struck again in November 2002 and touched Princess Haifa al-Faisal, wife of Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the longtime Saudi ambassador to Washington (and nephew of Prince Nayef). It was learned that money had gone from her purse to the pockets of two 9/11 hijackers, Khalid al-Midhar and Nawaf Alhazmi, by way of two Saudi intermediaries, Omar al-Bayoumi and Osama Bassnan (Stephen Schwartz, Weekly Standard, 8/12/03). On the flight was the noted horse breeder Prince Ahmad bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, the owner of the Kentucky Derby winner War Emblem. After returning to Saudi Arabia, he died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 43, his cousin, Prince Sultan bin Faisal bin Turki bin Abdullah, aged 41, was killed in a car accident the next day, on his way to Prince Ahmad’s funeral. . . .” (Idem.)"

and:

8. More about Zubaydah’s fingering of Prince Ahmed (War Emblem’s owner) and his role as contact person for Al Qaeda on behalf of the royal family: “The name Zubaydah gave came as a complete surprise to the CIA. It was Prince Ahmed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, the owner of many legendary racehorses and one of the most westernized members of the royal family. On September 16, 2001, Prince Ahmed, of course, had boarded the flight in Lexington as part of the evacuation plan approved by the Bush White House.” (Idem.)

9. “Prince Ahmed was well known not just in Saudi Arabia, but also in publishing circles in London and horse-racing circles in Kentucky. He was such an unlikely name that the interrogators immediately assumed Zubaydah was lying to buy time. . . .The interrogators then keep their prisoner on a ‘bare minimum’ of pain medication and interrupted his sleep with bright lights for hour after hour before restarting the Sodium Pentothal drip.” (Ibid.; pp. 265-266.)

and:

13. After discussing Prince Ahmed’s purchase of War Emblem, the horse’s success in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and the awkward presence at the Derby of New York firefighters who had lost many of their co-workers on 9/11, the program highlights Prince Ahmed’s curious absence from the U.S. when War Emblem was running in the Belmont Stakes. Prince Ahmed then died on 7/22/2002, allegedly of a heart attack. “ . . . But on June 8, Prince Ahmed did not even show up at the Belmont Stakes, the third part of the Triple Crown. ‘I’m disappointed the prince wasn’t here,’ said trainer Bob Baffeert. Ahmed was said to be tending to family obligations in Riyadh. An associate said that he did not know the nature of the obligations. In any case, War Emblem stumbled as he came out of the starting gate and came in eighth. About six weeks later, on July 22, Prince Ahmed was dead. News reports said the forty-three-year-old nephew of King Fahd had died in his sleep due to a heart attack.” (Ibid.; p. 268.)

14. Within eight days of Ahmed’s death, the two other members of the royal family alleged by Zubaydah to have served as liaison agents between Al Qaeda and the house of Saud had died under odd circumstances. “ . . . Ahmed was not the only person named by Zubaydah to suffer ill. The next day, July 23, Ahmed’s cousin, Prince Sultan bin Faisal bin Turki al-Saud, was killed in a one-car crash while en route to Ahmed’s funeral. A week later, on July 30, Prince Fahd bin Turki bin Saud al-Kabir, a third member of the royal family who had been named by Zubaydah, was found in the desert having apparently died of thirst.” (Ibid.; pp. 268-269.)

Now I understand why Blair, the prostitute without a conscience, has no qualms spilling blood of others for his fortune.

It is all making sense.

In Hour to Shine, an Envoy Instead Shuns the Spotlight (Amb. to Britain)

By ELISABETH BUMILLER

How close? Well, for decades the elder Mr. Bush has relaxed at Mr. Farish's fabulous houses. Bush père has fished at Mr. Farish's oceanfront home in Gulf Stream, Fla., shot quail at Mr. Farish's 10,000-acre Lazy F Ranch in Beeville, Tex., and been feted at a fund-raiser at Mr. Farish's Lane's End Farm in Versailles, Ky. Queen Elizabeth has visited the farm, too, where she watched Mr. Farish play polo.

All of which means that Mr. Farish would have been the perfect ambassador to handle the pomp of the Court of St. James had not the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, intervened. That, in any case, is the widespread view of British commentators and reporters, who would like the man they call the quiet American to speak up.

Their view is that now more than ever, when the relationship between the American president and Prime Minister Tony Blair is so crucial, and when anti-Americanism is rife in Europe, the White House needs a strong voice in London. But they say that Mr. Farish, whom American Embassy officials readily describe as "very private," has been largely invisible.

"The Bush administration, so often abrasive in tone, and so sharply different from its predecessor, could do with explanation abroad," wrote Bronwen Maddox, the foreign editor of The Times of London, in a column before Mr. Bush's visit to Britain. "For an ambassador to abandon that attempt is to accept the caricature often given."

He's not a diplomat, he an insider's insider

He's the grandson of William Stamps Farish, Sr., who was president of Standard Oil at the start of World War II and got in trouble for doing business with the Nazis. The elder Farish's wife was connected with several prominent Houston families, his daughter married into the Harriman family (which helped establish a connection with the Bushes), and his son married the daughter of a prominent right-winger.

Farish Sr. died in 1942, and his son, William Stamps Farish, Jr., died in an Air Force training accident the following spring, leaving the family fortune to four-year-old William Stamps Farish III. The Bushes were already friends of the Farishes, and George and Barbara Bush became particularly close to Farish Jr.'s widow and her young son.

When I did some research on the Farish family a few months ago, I found that the current W.S. Farish was, except for his connection with the Bushes, almost totally invisible. One online description of him said, "Will Farish grew up a recluse, the most secretive multimillionaire in Texas." Another referred to him as a "Texas mystery man" and said, "Known as one of the richest men in Texas, Will Farish keeps his business affairs under the most intense secrecy. Only the source of his immense wealth is known, not its employment."

Farish's wife is a member of the DuPont family -- her fascist great-uncles were involved in an attempted coup against FDR in 1934. But the DuPonts seem just as secretive.

Farish has been equally invisible as ambassador. One article I found in the Guardian said, ". . . the current US ambassador is one of the most reticent in the 250-year history of the post. It's probably easier to get an interview with Saddam Hussein than with William Farish. . . ."

I don't know whether the ambassadorship is just a payoff for favors received to a man who doesn't have the temperament for it, or whether Farish is actively engaged in conspiring behind the scenes on Bush's behalf. But either way, the man is a major enigma of a sort that makes me definitely uneasy.

A Washington Bank, A Global Mess (Riggs Bank, the GOP and Terrorism)

Edited on Sun Apr-11-04 11:22 AM by mobuto
For those of you who don't live in Washington, the Riggs National Bank is controlled by the Houston-based Allbritton family, which has for decades been virtually synonymous with the Republican Party. They provide much better service than the national chains, which is why I have my accounts there, but then of course I don't receive the service afforded Saudi terrorists or African dictators. Joe Allbritton owns a media empire of local television affiliates, and is a longtime close, personal friend of George H. W. Bush.
---

EACH January, in honor of Gen. Robert E. Lee's birthday, a group of Washington's movers and shakers gather to rub elbows at the Alfalfa Club dinner. Wizened, impressive and until recently entirely male, the Alfalfa roster includes presidents, politicians, diplomats and business impresarios, all bound together by being either formidably influential or fabulously rich.

Attendees have included luminaries like Prince Bandar bin Sultan, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States; Jack Valenti, the president of the Motion Picture Association of America; and others with surnames like Greenspan, Kissinger and Rehnquist. President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney made their first joint public appearance after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks at the Alfalfa gathering in 2002.

--snip=--

Until late February, Riggs managed $360 million worth of Equatorial Guinean accounts that federal investigators say were controlled by that country's dictator. The accounts were largely funded by proceeds from deals with Exxon Mobil, the oil company. Federal investigators say they are scrutinizing those accounts to see if they involve the proceeds of political graft or were used to bribe executives of any American companies, according to an individual with direct knowledge of the investigation. The problems with the Equatorial Guinean accounts also prompted the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency last month to warn Riggs that it plans to label it a "troubled" institution, meaning that the bank would have to cede significant managerial authority to the government.

--snip--

Until the Sept. 11 attacks, Saudi officials often rolled into a Riggs branch on a Friday and withdrew millions of dollars for, say, a weekend splurge in London, according to individuals familiar with the transactions. Even after the attacks, when Saudi institutions were criticized by federal officials for possibly financing terrorism, it took Riggs more than a year to begin tightening its oversight. A year ago, the bank says, it cautioned the Saudis, as well as embassies from other countries, that the no-questions-asked era was coming to an end.

who do business with Riggs.

Saddam was a good dictator

The Shah of Iran was a good dictator.
Adolf Hitler was the best dictator,
but
Dubya may supersede them all.

Incidentally, up until Jonathan Bush of Riggs was told to part with all the money paid into Obiang's account (minimum 300 million CASH)
the president of Equatorial Guinea was a good dictator.
Now he is just "a gonad-eating cannibal."

34. Interesting to see Jack Valenti's name come up twice in your post
I never thought Valenti was of particular importance aside from his persecution of file sharers. But a few months ago, I discovered he was a long-time friend of Jack Trotter (a leading Houston real estate investor I was researching because of his sponsorship of James Bath back in the 70's) and was currently associated with Trotter in a right-wing scheme to replace the income tax with a national sales tax. Since then I've been more alert to Valenti's possible political connections.

That's why these sentences from the above post really jumped out at me: "Wizened, impressive and until recently entirely male, the Alfalfa roster includes presidents, politicians, diplomats and business impresarios, all bound together by being either formidably influential or fabulously rich. Attendees have included luminaries like Prince Bandar bin Sultan, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States; Jack Valenti, the president of the Motion Picture Association of America; and others with surnames like Greenspan, Kissinger and Rehnquist."

Is Jack Valenti really influential enough to be named in the same breath as Prince Bandar, Greenspan, Kissinger, and Rehnquist? And if he is, what is the nature of that influence? Is it only through the MPAA, or is there something else?

What I do know is that Houston seems to be the center of the whole Bush/Farish/Baker and Botts/Rice University/Enron nexus, which also ties into 80's S&L scandals and other world-class abuses of money and power. And Valenti is at least a tangential part of that.

32. Here's what an apparent FRIEND of the BFEE has to say...
... pretty damning stuff:

HOW YOU CAN DISCOVER HOW ANY PERSON OR COMPANY IS "TRADING WITH THE ENEMY"

by Linda Minor © 2000

Tracing the pro-Hitler roots which formed the branches of the fortunes of the Bush and Cheney families, who intend to take over the Presidency of the United States.

EXCERPT...

In 1939 their son, Edward H. Gerry, married Martha Botts Farish -- the daughter of William Stamps Farish, founder of Humble Oil in Houston. Cornelia Harriman was the sister of Averill. Edward's brother Elbridge, the eldest, born in 1908, held general partnerships in the banking firms Brown Brothers Harriman & Company, and Gerry Brothers & Company, and was a well-known philanthropist, notable polo player, avid participant in harness racing, and breeder of champion horse racers. In 1932 he married Marjorie Kane, daughter of John P. Kane. They had two sons, Elbridge T. Jr. and Peter G. II, and a daughter Marjorie. Elbridge Gerry, Sr. died February 26, 1999. Elbridge T. Jr. has assumed the role as partner in the Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. limited partnership.

The Edward Gerrys had four children including Mrs. Cornelia Corbett (owner of American Soccer League team--Tampa Bay Rowdies) and William F. Gerry, and have been heavily involved in horse-breeding. The Farish family genealogy shows that the family came to Virginia from Cumberland, England shortly after 1700, relocating to Mississippi a few generations later, before the Civil War. An ancestor, Hazlewood Farish, was married to the niece of Confederate president Jefferson Davis, and his son married Kate Power in 1860, whose father Stephen Power, owned one of the largest plantations in Natchez, Mississippi. Their son, the first William Stamps Farish, was born in Mississippi in 1881. His son was born in Texas in 1912 and died in 1943, one year after his father. (Genealogy set out in http://www.specent.com/dfarish/ged/dat9.htm#17 ).

In 1928 W. Averill Harriman had played polo with Major Louis A. Beard, Walter A. Goodwin, William Ziegler, Elbert T. Gerry III, Robert Gerry, R. Penn Smith, and Marshall Field at Saratoga. In 1932 other players included John Hay "Jock" Whitney, C.V. "Sonny" Whitney, Robert Gerry, Edward Gerry and Henry Gerry. It was at Saratoga also that the family of Billy Mellon Hitchcock played polo, including Billy's father, Tommy Hitchcock who was on Averill Harriman's team for a time.

Elbridge T. Gerry, Jr. was elected to the corporate board of Union Pacific Corporation in 1986, where he now sits alongside Mr. Richard B. Cheney. He is a member of the corporation's executive committee and finance committee. The current members of the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee are Robert P. Bauman (Chair), Philip F. Anschutz, Richard B. Cheney, Elbridge T. Gerry, Jr., and Richard J. Mahoney. They also comprise directors of a separate holding company called Union Pacific Capital Trust, which recently issued a prospectus containing excerpts shown below.

42. Farish's swansong statement:
AMBASSADOR WILLIAM S. FARISH
Speeches & Remarks

Snip:

First of all, whether your point of reference is D-Day or the end of the Cold War, there is no time that the "special relationship" has been better. Yes, I know that some will immediately protest, arguing that opposition to President Bush and America are widespread. Certainly some of London's pundits have strongly held views, but my experience is that caricatures of the President and US policy find little resonance among the British people. They see the President as a plainspoken man of principle who says what he believes. They understand that American foreign policy is motivated by a genuine desire to make the world a better, safer place for us and for our children. They see this in the President's determination to marshal an international coalition to win the war against terrorism, in his commitment of $15 billion to the global fight against HIV-Aids, and in his vision of an Arab world enjoying the benefits of the democratic and economic revolutions that swept across much of the rest of the world the past 15 to 20 years.

Bold, decisive leadership is often greeted by protest placards. But history often renders a different judgment from contemporary boos and catcalls, as President Reagan's experience so clearly demonstrates.

In the time that I've been ambassador here, America and Britain have taken a number of steps together in which all of our citizens can take justifiable pride. After the tragedy of 9/11, our countries moved quickly and decisively to overthrow the abusive Taleban government and dismantle al-Qaeda's Afghan sanctuary, and we have been the closest of partners in helping bring about a new Afghanistan. We have deposed and captured Saddam Hussein and, working with the UN, have ushered in a new Iraqi national government. It is only the first step, but it represents enormous progress from the days of Saddam's murderous kleptocracy. No, we haven't found the weapons of mass destruction, but we did find the graves of 300,000 innocents murdered by his henchmen. Our work in Iraq is not done, but we have made real progress.
