Clinton: Al Qaeda Biggest Threat - 60 Min
Former President Clinton says al Qaeda, not Saddam Hussein, was the biggest terrorist threat to the United States when the U.S. invaded Iraq.

In an exclusive interview with Dan Rather to be broadcast on 60 Minutes Sunday, June 20 at 7 p.m. ET/PT., Mr. Clinton also says the United States should have allowed U.N. inspectors to complete their search for weapons of mass destruction before attacking Iraq.

"In terms of the launching of the war, I believe we made an error in not allowing the United Nations to complete the inspections process," says Mr. Clinton.

Rather then asks Mr. Clinton whether he agrees with President Bush's stand that the world is safer from terrorism now that U.S.-led forces invaded Iraq.

1. Clinton lets Bush off the hook
What could be more important than taking back the nation and restoring democratic society?

Why, playing the role of sober, genteel ex-president, of course.

2. I don't understand why Clinton gives excuses that he 'understands' why
the Repuke Whores did what they did to him. I just saw his June 3 book announcements at

http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2004-06-04-clinton-bookexpo_x.htm

and told told a history story about how politician back from the 1800 to early 1900 attacked each other and insighted even assassinations... Well Mr. Clinton it's the year 2004 and the world does NOT have to live like barbarians anymore. They also used to each humans in the past does that mean we should also continue this practice? Clinton should be attacking these immoral Satan Repukes!

3. Yep. He thinks if he kisses a** enough, historians might give him a break
Besides, isn't that the official line in the highest circles in the Democratic Party? That what's wrong with the Iraq war is that we went about it in the wrong way, or did it at the wrong time, or didn't send enough troops, etc.? And isn't this line dictated by the polls that show that most Americans support the war?

I am not endorsing this strategy, just describing it.

4. I read it "we made an error in not allowing inspections to be completed"
"Because, if they had been completed the war would have never been launched."

Something like that, but it does afford Bushco and the RW media too much wiggle room.

6. People on this thread are missing the point.
Clinton is actually delivering a SLAM against Bush* by saying, basically, that he KNEW al Qaeda was a threat before he left office.

What Clinton is doing here is trying to subtly undermine Bush*s credibility on the war. He's in effect saying that if his policies had been followed and his admins' warnings heeded, 9/11 might very well have been prevented.
That how I read it, anyway.

7. and, of course, clinton may not be speaking too harshly about it
because it's not his problem anymore.

he already went through more nonsense than anyone should have to go through. having his life turned upside down, republicans trying to ruin him financially for years to come, trying to besmirch his place in history.

now it's bush's turn.
