Poll: 64% of Israeli Jews support encouraging Arabs to leave

A University of Haifa poll released Monday reveals that a majority of the Jewish public in Israel - 63.7 percent - believes that the government should encourage Israeli Arabs to emigrate from Israel.

The survey, conducted by the university's National Security Studies Center, also found that 48.6 percent of the Israeli Jews polled said the government was overly sympathetic to the Arab population.

Compared to similar polls conducted in 2001 and 2003, the current survey indicates an increase in the public's extremism.

The majority of Jewish respondents, 55.3 percent, said Israeli Arabs endangered national security, while 45.3 percent of those polled said they supported revoking Israeli Arabs' right to vote and hold political office.

About one-quarter of the Jewish public said they would consider voting for an ultra-nationalist party like the outlawed Kach if such a party was to run in the next elections, the survey revealed.

SARCELLES, FRANCE – On a sunny summer's day in this middle-class suburb north of Paris it is not hard to imagine yourself in Israel: Jewish bookshops and kosher grocery stores line busy streets full of men wearing skullcaps and religious women wearing head scarves. A giant menorah stands atop the synagogue. But Sarcelles has been plunged into the midst of a painful debate about the future of Jews in France as a rising plague of anti-Semitic incidents fuels fears for their safety and prompts a new drive by the Israeli authorities to bring potential citizens to the Jewish state. Some here put on a brave front.

"Jewish life is vibrant in Sarcelles," says Marc Djebali, who heads a federation of local Jewish associations. "We are trying to expand our community center because Jewish life is developing, not slowing down."

Others take a darker, even apocalyptic view, predicting ever more violent conflict with their Muslim neighbors of North African descent.

"There is no future for Jews in France," laments Daniel Haik, one of the syna- gogue's administrators. "We suffered one ethnic cleansing when we were forced to leave Tunisia and we are on the verge of another."

Zionism is not all reactionary, but this sort of racist expression of "Israel for Jews Only" is reprehensible. And many, many Israelis know the danger in such thinking for the Jewish community worldwide. We must condemn all expressions of anti-Semitism and racism from whatever source.

when the forced transfer of the arab population begins in greater israel? only one conclusion about israel's long term intentions can be drawn as we see the government starting more settlement construction in judea and samaria. israel will never give up the west bank. the arab population of greater israel (israel plus occupied territories) is almost 50% arab now, and the arab population is growing faster than the jewish population. can't have a jewish state with jews the minority. only solution is to remove the arab population from the jewish state.

Complete secularism is the ONLY "cure" for this kind of nonsense.. Secularists do not mind one bit who or what people worship....as long as they do not attach political frenzy to it...or insist that everyone else "worship" with them..

In the end , all people want the same things.. safety, food, clothing, shelter, education for their kids, and a decent life.. No matter the "religion", all people need and want the same things.. There is no reason to kill, when cooperation works better.
