BBC - British soldier killed in Basra
Edited on Thu Aug-14-03 11:19 AM by bobdole
BBCNEWS -- British soldier killed in Basra

One British soldier has been killed and two others injured in an explosives attack in southern Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
It is understood the soldiers were hit by a remote-controlled device hidden in, or on, a lamppost.

It exploded as the soldiers, understood to be travelling in a military ambulance, passed it by.

The conditions of the two injured men are not thought to be life-threatening.

In an unrelated incident, the MoD confirmed a British soldier had been found dead in bed on Wednesday night.

The MoD said there was no suggestion this had been due to hostile activity or that it was suicide.

Nice one Tony.

There goes "softly softly" now comes quagmire.

Where are those WMD again? We'll never find any with the locals shooting and bombing our guys.

5. Look out
If the shia start a guerilla war around Basra, this thing gets even uglier, even faster.

A big shit sandwich...

9. The US/Brits are only there as long as
the Shia allow them to be. It seems some incidents lately are pushing the Shia over the edge-fuel shortages, ignoramii trying to tear down a religious banner from a tower. I don't think the Shia are at the point of no return yet, but the camel's down a coupla straws.

7. British troops are dying in their sleep, too?
It appears that the UK is getting better & more prominently featured information about what is happening in Iraq. I hope the people there start demanding that their troops be brought home now, too.

8. Yes
Sleeping in Iraq does appear to be really dangerous.

10. What is odd about this story?
We heard about it today. That is whats odd. The only reports of US soldiers being killed have always come the following day. This just happened today and we get the report today.
