Indiana library reports info request (Patriot Act)
I posted this in the recent thread about the renewal of the Patriot Act library/bookstore provision but it deserves more attention. One of the Repuke arguments was that the Patriot Act hadn't been used in libraries yet.

More lies! If the feds are using the Patriot Act to nose around in conservative, sleepy Indiana, then they are using it everywhere.

<snip>

One Indiana library reported in a survey that federal officials had sought to review patron Web browsing and reading habits since the Patriot Act went into effect, an Indiana Library Federation representative said Thursday.

Stephen Cochran, chairman of the federation's intellectual freedom committee, said that of the 218 other Indiana public libraries responding to an anonymous survey, six said they were not sure, and two asked, "Wouldn't disclosing this information to you be in violation of the Patriot Act?"

With this information, he said, libraries around the state should "want to sit up and think about how to protect their patrons' confidentiality."

He said the federation supports rolling back Patriot Act provisions that lower the bar for federal officials to request patron data.

2. If a right is taken away
You can bet the farm and all the chickens and pigs that the government will take full advantage. Saying otherwise is, well, lying.

3. Screwed
More lies! If the feds are using the Patriot Act to nose around in conservative, sleepy Indiana, then they are using it everywhere.<<

Well... if they are using it everywhere... they are using it here... and if they think that this is a solution to the hatred that hundreds of thousands of foreigners have towards the govt of the U.S. then it shows just how screwed we are. They say these fundamendalists want to take us back to the 15th century.... well howdy.. are these the same people who have sat phones... use high level encryption... are engineers... doctors.... employ steganography to conceal messages... and generally cause more trouble than anyone can believe?? Can it be that we are our own worst enemies, and that cause and effect will always function normally in this world?? Dropping millions upon millions of tnt on this planet might not be the answer to terrorism... just a thought.

You can kill mosquitoes every day in the swamp for the rest of your life... or you can drain the swamp from the getgo. The choice is yours.

Would someone who has the power to do so... please please create a thread entitled... Why do they hate us...

Please don't hate me cuz I'm beautiful
