Kerry Calls on Bush 'To Tell the Truth' About Iraq
<http://asia.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=3070107>

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic White House contender John Kerry called on President Bush on Thursday "to tell the truth" about Iraq -- including the fact that "the war is continuing and so are the casualties."
Kerry's critique was arguably the toughest so far by any of the four Democrats in the U.S. Congress who voted to authorize Bush to use force, and are now seeking their party's 2004 presidential nomination.
Kerry, speaking at a Capitol Hill news conference, said he had no regrets about his vote. "My vote was 100 percent the right vote," he said.
"What I regret is that the president did such a bad job of diplomacy" before and after the fighting began in March, and failed to build a bigger international coalition, he said.

I hate to say it, but Kerry only gets a token “attaboy” from me….his vote was wrong…period.

1. I wonder if W has any idea what's waiting for him when he gets back
Imagine putting on a blindfold and then walking out into a field of rakes. Like that.

2. Bravo, Kerry
His vote may have been wrong, but at least he can claim that King Smirk misled him and the entire Congress, which may very well have been the case.

7. he's not claiming that
Kerry needs to demand the truth about the misuse of intelligence used to justify the war. demanding that Bush acknowledge the war is continuing is pretty weak. Bush needs to be dragged over the coals, not slapped on the wrist like this.

14. He can claim it for political purposes, but no member of congress
should vote for war without challenging the veracity of the evidence.

3. If Congress was presented with Bogus intelligence and made a decision
based on that bogus intelligence then you can't blame Congress. If Iraq did indeed pose an imminent threat to the US I would also vote to put a stop to that threat. What is wrong with that. After the fact we discover Iraq had NO WMD and did not pose a threat then whoever said it did should be made to pay a huge price because many people have died because of that BOGUS intelligence. Kerry did what he thought was the right thing to do with the information that was given him. Now he is doing the right thing by asking for an investigation of how that bogus information made it's way into congressional hearings. The hammer will fall but not quick enough for me.

10. If Kerry is seeing doubt in the presentation of (cough) facts…duh…
While still maintaining that his vote was 100% correct…slap me, kick me….I still have a problem with that.

4. Keep it up, Mr. Kerry.
(I guess Dean has been a splash of cold water in the faces of the other candidates that populism gets votes.)

Ultimately, Kerry will be able to defend his vote in the campaign and in any debates using the speech that he gave. I didn't agree with his vote, but I think almost everything else he has done so far is superb.

9. i call on Kerry
..to denounce his vote for the war.

Im not buying the bullshit that congress "was fooled" by phony intelligence.....WHY did 99% of DUers know the evidence was cooked up bullshit ? Why did Kucinich not get fooled?

Pure slick politician cowardice.

And now that all the evidence is in, where does Rep. McDermott go to get back his good name? He is a true patriot.

11. Congress voted to give AWOL what he needed to go to war
Edited on Thu Jul-10-03 01:59 PM by bushisanidiot
WITHOUT asking for specific information on WHY AWOL 'knew' Saddam was an immenent threat to the U.S. This screwup raises the bar.. the next time a president asks the congress for such war power, the congress HAS to force the president to fess up ahead of time before they make their decision on war.

So... if there really IS an imminent threat and the u.s. needs to act quickly.. they --> CAN'T <-- because of AWOL's LIE!!! AWOL has f*cked us over for years to come!

13. Kudos to Kerry for hoping on the moving train
Lieberman and Edwards are the only candidates still standing at the train station!

Candy Crowley on CNN was asking Bob Graham today if Bush purposely lied about WMD in Iraq? A tremendous concession that Bush lied on her part. Whether Bush knew that the Niger uranium claim was true or not is irrelevant! As Prez, Bush is responsible for everything that happens in the government, particular on national defense and foreign policy issues.

BTW, Crowley showed Graham a December 2002 quote of his in which Graham said that he had seen proof that Saddam had WMD. Crowley was trying to trip Graham with that question. This is the sort of question that all of the Democrats that voted for the Iraq war can be expected to hear whenever they say that Bush lied.

Graham's answer was that his remarks were based on the briefing he got from CIA and Pentagon. An adequate answer, I thought!

Bush lied, people died.
