Kerry calls on Bush 'to tell the truth' about Iraq
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N10171071.htm

WASHINGTON, July 10 (Reuters) - Democratic White House contender John Kerry called on President George W. Bush on Thursday "to tell the truth" about Iraq -- including the fact that "the war is continuing and so are the casualties."

The Massachusetts senator also urged Bush to acknowledge that "we lack sufficient forces to do the job of reconstruction in Iraq," and need more help from allies.

Kerry's critique was arguably the toughest so far by any of the four Democrats in the U.S. Congress who voted to authorize Bush to use force, and are now seeking their party's 2004 presidential nomination.

The senator delivered his remarks shortly after the number of U.S. soldiers killed by hostile fire in Iraq since Bush declared the end to major combat on May 1 rose to 31.

1. Seems like the Dems might be picking up some steam. All I can say is
"it's about time". This action is long overdue. They need to pound on the WMD issue and the economy EVERY DAY.

2. how about the truth about WMD?
I mean it's self-evident that "the war is continuing and so are the casualties". Call him on the lies, distortions, and selective use of intelligence used to justify the war.

Another thing, 31 troops killed by hostile fire is misleading. Lots of troops have been killed in vehicle accidents caused by driving at unsafe speeds. They drive fast to avoid ambush. So, many of the 'non-hostile' deaths are really caused indirectly by the guerilla fighters.

7. I think that it is unconscionable for the media
or our government to make a fraudulent distinction between various deaths and injuries in combat! No such distinctions have ever been made in any other war we have ever been involved in. The only distinction generally made in history is between "battlefield" deaths and diseases. The media nad our government has got to stop this patently propagandistic foolishness! It is insulting to the public, but more eggregiouly, it is insulting to our soldiers.

12. How, where?
Thought I did that. The time on this article now says 1:12 PM. The other thread says 11:50 AM. When I duped, the other thread was listed as 10 minutes earlier and had 5 more replies than this. The first reply to the other thread is also listed earlier than the first reply to this. I'm confused since the times seem to be changing.

Where do I find a posting time that doesn't change?

6. What a riduculous stand to take: it's like the Senator is saying the truth
has heretofore not been told on this issue.

13. Congress (that includes Kerry) was given intellegence briefings filtered
by the executive branch before the vote to influence their vote.

This is a fairly good stand from Kerry. It's a bit too cautious, IMHO, but it still advances the debate a bit. I prefer Dean's stance that some folks in the Bush administration need to resign because they "misled the President, misled the nation, and misled the world in making the case for the war in Iraq".

8. Why?
But I just heard the Chimp on the radio yesterday saying that he "has no doubt that he's done the right thing." So truth doesn't matter. It will all turn out all right in the end. None of us should worry our pretty little heads about it.

10. Kudos to Kerry for hoping on the moving train
Lieberman and Edwards are the only candidates still standing at the train station!

Candy Crowley on CNN was asking Bob Graham today if Bush purposely lied about WMD in Iraq? A tremendous concession that Bush lied on her part. Whether Bush knew that the Niger uranium claim was true or not is irrelevant! As Prez, Bush is responsible for everything that happens in the government, particular on national defense and foreign policy issues.

BTW, Crowley showed Graham a December 2002 quote of his in which Graham said that he had seen proof that Saddam had WMD. Crowley was trying to trip Graham with that question. This is the sort of question that all of the Democrats that voted for the Iraq war can be expected to hear whenever they say that Bush lied.

Graham's answer was that his remarks were based on the briefing he got from CIA and Pentagon. An adequate answer, I thought!

Bush lied, people died.

11. Johnny-come-lately
I dislike the way Kerry has shifted positions from "Yes, but"
to what is now essentially a "look-at-me-Im-another-Dennis".
Your just a politician in my book, John.
