Senior Iraqi Interior Ministry Official Killed
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Gunmen assassinated a senior Iraqi interior ministry official in Baghdad on Monday, a ministry source said.

The source said Mussab al-Awadi was killed along with two of his bodyguards as he left his house in the capital.

Awadi was in charge of dealing with tribal affairs.

In May, Izzedin Salim, head of the now defunct Governing Council, was killed in a suicide bomb attack on his convoy.

3. this is a very different report on his death....
From AFP. Sounds like a mafia hit....

BAGHDAD (AFP) - A senior Iraqi police officer at the interior ministry, Colonel Mussab al-Awadi, was shot dead in a Baghdad restaurant, a spokesman said.

"Colonel Mussab al-Awadi was shot in the early afternoon by unknown (gunmen) who opened fire in the al-Baya area in western Baghdad," said the spokesman, refusing to give his name.

The death of Awadi, who had coordinated security arrangements with tribal elders, was the latest in a string of killings of senior civil servants since Iraq (news - web sites)'s caretaker government was appointed on June 1.
