Peru's Toledo Slams Bribe Report

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040726/wl_nm/peru_toledo_dc_1

"Peru's President Alejandro Toledo on Monday denied reports he had a received a bribe of over $5 million and pledged to open his bank accounts for investigators if they demand to see them.

Peru's top news magazine, Caretas, reported Toledo's former adviser Cesar Almeyda, who is awaiting trial on separate corruption charges, as having told its reporter from jail in February that a company paid Toledo in exchange for favors.

Almeyda did not name the company or say where any such cash was deposited, the magazine's said in its probe of the case.

"I tell you today that this president will never stop his fight against corruption," an angry Toledo told reporters, and said he was ready to open his bank accounts for scrutiny if investigators asked him to."
