Icelandic Whalers Make First Kill
REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP)

The crew of a government-commissioned Icelandic whaling vessel made its first kill Monday in the scientific whale hunt being carried out beyond the view of protesting animal welfare groups. -

The crew of the Njordur had said earlier Monday their task was hampered by two pursuing boats, hired by media crews and animal welfare groups. -

Conservationists have said they want to draw the world's attention to the hunt. The International Fund for Animal Welfare has leased a boat and the Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior is on its way to Iceland.

(I joined Greenpeace when I was 9 years old using my allowance money and it was completely my own idea. My parents thought something was wrong because I didn't go buy Push-Ups.)

2. Been there, done that ! Most of my co-workers and students...
sent them too. Nambe and I went to the burial of the "Rainbow Warrior" in NZ, '86. The music festival was awsome! Neil Young, Grham Nash, Jackson Browne, Split Enz, and more performed at Mt. Smart Stadium in Auckland. Have a great photo of my little sister on my shoulders about 2 meters in front of Neil Young doing a song by himself in front of the stage curtains. What a week-end. Greenpeace is awsome and so are the whales.

4. Why is a whale any different than a cow?
Why the press for a whale when thousands of cows are killed every day?

5. I can easily make a strong case for the whales being the most...

advanced species on the planet. If you have developed your telepathic or spiritual abilities, you may be concerned as to the importance of the continued existence of the whales and the elimination of violence against them. Cetology texts are mostly at doctorate level terminology but they are fascinating to read.

I am a vegetarian and don't approve of the un-necessary slaughter of any creature, including Iraqis.

6. It's harder to grow more whales than it is to grow more cows?
Whales are wild, cows are domesticated?

I'm sure there's more.
