Quebec may set a Wal-Mart first (Unionization!)
Saguenay, Que. — A Wal-Mart Canada Corp. store in this Quebec city may become the first store of the retail giant to be unionized, after the Quebec Labour Relations Board accredited a union there to represent the workers.

It would be so cool if this went through.

2. The usual Sprawl-Mart response to those pinko unions:
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 07:05 PM by KamaAina
BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores announced today it will build a gigantic, state-of-the-art Wal-Mart SuperCenter with all the bells and whistles, 50 metres outside the city limits of Saguenay, Que.

The older Saguenay store, with 180 employees, is slated to close at the end of the month.

Asked whether impending unionization could have been behind the move, a Wal-Mart Stores spokesman told DU News to go Cheney itself.

Edit: "Fast Food Nation" tells of a similar move by McDonald's when a restaurant in Saint-Hubert, Que. organized. It was suddenly closed after seventeen years in the same location.

5. This is not the first time
Walmart would rather shut the whole plant down than allow the precedent. Same goes for Hudson Bay/Zellers et al.
