Anti-Bush groups make up for ad gap
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-08-03-anti-bush-ads_x.htm

The Kerry-Edwards campaign won't be hurt by its decision to not run TV ads until after Labor Day, political experts say. The number of ads running this month by the Bush-Cheney campaign is being matched or exceeded by the number of ads run by the Democratic National Committee and independent groups opposed to President Bush.

The DNC and anti-Bush groups have filled a potential advertising gap caused by Democratic nominee John Kerry's decision to accept $75 million in public money. As a condition of accepting the federal funds, candidates are barred from using any private money in their campaigns.

Kerry qualified for his $75 million last Thursday, when he accepted the Democratic nomination. President Bush won't get his money, and be subject to its restrictions, until Sept. 2 when he accepts the GOP nomination. Until then, Bush can spend from the more than $60 million in his campaign treasury.

<snip>

Together, the DNC and liberal groups such as the Media Fund "are significantly outbuying the Bush-Cheney campaign" in the 20 or so states expected to be close in the race, said Jim Jordan, spokesman for the Media Fund.

4. The DNC ad I saw was horrible
Trying to "out Bush" Bush on terrorism- and true to DNC fashion, they picked probably THE worst possible quote out of Kerry's speech: "we will be able to tell the terrorists: You will lose and we will win."

How eloquent.

That ad isn't going to help Kerry one bit... in fact, it makes him sound like as big a stooge as the bushler himself.

9. It sounds like an ad that will appeal to the swing states
In order to win OH, MI, NH, IA, MO, WV - and maybe even VA - Kerry has to reassure the many rural conservative white men and women who live in these states that he will take care of them.

They care enormously about defense. And why not? They represent a disproportionate percentage of the armed forces who are in harm's way.

As liberals, we need to be the ones with big hearts and open minds who reach out to people with differing views and opinions.
