of someone's competence as a murder investigator? The investigator in question, Lou Smit, is a highly respected detective.
Folks, I have let threads like this go for quite a while, but now must comment.
No one has a problem on this board with believing and understanding that the media is damned good at getting the facts wrong, and once wrong, damned reluctant to contradict itself.
No one on this board has problem believing and understanding that the police can and do routinely get obsessed with one suspect and will ignore another other possibilities no matter the evidence. I have listened to police detectives and prosecutors who even faced with DNA evidence, claim the "murderer/rapist" got off because they had a slick lawyer. They can NEVER entertaim even the slightest hint that they were wrong.
This is not helped when the suspect in question is viewed by the public as unsympathetic and/or arrogant. On this board since he was a Republican he's considered guilty as charged, and gleefully so.
This is unfair.
Liberals have a reputation as being fair and open-minded, and yet what I see here are folks who are simply prepared to take the word of the police and the mainstream media. Whereas, if the suspect were one of our own, a lot more research would be going on into the story.
I am no fan of child murderers and child molesters. I am also no fan of sloppy police work and journalism. I have looked at the investigation and how it was reported and find that the investigation was bungled and that the police fed the press a lot of lies to bolster their view of what happened. They have ignored evidence which contradicts their neat view of the murder.
A good analysis of the case can be found here:
http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/famous/ramsey/index_1.htmlPlease spare me any posts of an ad hominem nature. Either read the evidence, or don't. If you can't be bothered to read the actual evidence, then perhaps you should reconsider your political affiliation. Refusal to fairly examine an opposing viewpoint is indicative of another social and political philosophy.
Are we truly fair and just, or do we just say the words?
