Texas House Democrats Could be Next to Flee
Texas House Democrats Could be Next to Flee

So is the long range plan by Texas Democrats to have House Democrats follow Senate Democrats to New Mexico?

1200 WOAI's Robert Wood reports from the Capitol that rumors are buzzing that at the end of the current special session, the 11 Senate Democrats who are currently in New Mexico will return at the end of the current special session, and then 51 House Democrats will leave the state, to prevent that Republican backed Congressional redistricting plan from passing.

"We're in the process of trying to get together and make a determination as a group about what our next step is going to be," State Rep. Pete Gallego (D-Alpine) said.

As long as a large chunk of Democrats are out of the state, there is not the required quorum left in Austin to approve the redistricting plan, which observers say would create five new Republican Congressional seats. (snip/...)

2. Sequence Error!

PLEASE tell me that the House Dems will vacate Texas BEFORE the Senators return, or we'll see them being dragged to the state house in chains to witness the passage of the Delay gerrymander.

10. "at the end of the current special session"
As long as they aren't in session when the senators return and the representatives flee before a new session is convened, everything will be fine. I assume the special session has an "end certain" date. They usually do.

3. EXCELLENT.
Here in Austin, I call my reps once a week to thank them for the stand they're taking.

One thing.. I'd love for them to flee to Louisiana. Imagine what a great photo-op it'd be - in the French Quarter! Heck, I'd be willing to spring for beignets at Cafe DuMonde! Also keep in mind that the national news media love to cover events in New Orleans - the food, the atmosphere, the excitement of bad weather (lol!).. this would probably result in tons of more coverage.

If you're reading this, Texas 11 or Killer D's, please go to New Orleans!!!

Nothing against New Orleans, but they need to stay somewhere where they will be protected by a Democratic Governor, Attorney General and local sheriff. Mike Foster would send out the goons to apprehend the "criminals". I'm thinking of Tuscon, Arizona next. Mississippi might also be a possibility, as a way to get the attention of black voters in an election year in that state.

5. why do they need to flee?
I thought the Texas Supreme Court ruled that the Speaker of the House,
could not use DPS to force members back to the Capitol. So why don't
they just stay home??

6. State lines...
I think as long as they are in Texas proper, they can be hauled in. They have to cross state lines to have immunity from that.
