Bush meets with Nancy Reagan, Schwarzenegger during California trip
LOS ANGELES (AP)

President Bush on Thursday won the embrace of two California Republican icons, Nancy Reagan and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, hoping their glow would rub off on him in a state that remains hostile territory to him.

At a fund raiser that brought in $3 million for the Republican National Committee, Bush praised Schwarzenegger for his performance following last year's gubernatorial recall election. ..

Schwarzenegger joked that he has been working hard for Bush's campaign, saying, "I've been organizing Republicans for Bush-Cheney, I've been organizing ... bodybuilders for Bush-Cheney, I've been organizing girlie men for Bush-Cheney." ..

"Nobody should take this state for granted in 2004," Bush said.

8. Austria is still crap!
Austria produced Hitler, Waldheim, and Schwartzenegger and they gave
Arnie a stamp.

Austria is still a horrible little country and a parasite on the Earth.

11. Lived in Austria many years. Hated it.
Hate it still, in spite of the gemutlichkeit, apfel strudel, Sachertorte, cleanliness and beautiful countryside.

And Schwarzenegger is a typical Austrian, two-faced ninny. He says something downright nasty, and then turns around, giggles, simpers a bit and says, "Oh, I was just joking," which, of course, is a subtle way of putting down the victims of his ridicule for not having a sense of humor.

Let's face it, Ahnold wasn't smart enough to get himself a decent education although he grew up in a culture in which education is a reward for the intelligent, not for the rich. And he wasn't man enough to do real work like repairing cars or farming. So, he built up his body and paraded around in the nude or almost nude in front of mostly other males. Was his body-building a way of compensating for his feelings of inadequacy and inferiority? Or is he an exhibitionist with repressed homosexual tendencies?

For many Austrians, "democracy" is when a bully gets up, tells everyone what they should think and say and then intimidates everyone into saying it. It's group think all the way. Haider is just one example.

And Austria is so conservative. Until the late 1970s, a single mother had to get the permission of a court to get a passport for her child. If, for instance, an Austrian woman married a non-Austrian man and wanted to take a child from a previous relationship with her to live in the country of her husband, she had to get a court's approval. Unbelievable. I could go on and on.

Not all Austrians are evil. After all, "some of my very best friends are Austrians." But then, they aren't typical Austrians. And then, of course, there are some really good Austrians: Mozart, Kreisky and Heinz Fisher, for example. But they are the exceptions that prove the rule.

3. Have Bush put his money where his mouth is
It would be great if Bush sunk millions of Dollars in a California campaign. It will never happen.

5. What kind of voting machines does CA have?
They might be planning to take CA and disenfranchise the Hispanic voters this time.

12. Touch-screen machines were decertified for this election
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 05:29 AM by Hekate
The movement against black box voting was pretty intense, and eventually there were public hearings in Sacramento. It being 3 a.m. as I write this I can't remember the name or title of the elected official in our capitol who made the call to decertify all the electronic paperless voting machines, but he did and blessings on him. Counties that used this equipment in 2002 had frequent problems with having to stop the voting, having "technicians" show up and tinker with the machines before polls closed, unexpected results -- the usual.

Now, I have a hunch that the average citizen still doesn't know what the fuss is about, and I have an even stronger hunch that Diebold will be baaaa-aack for the next election with some mickey mouse fix and a claim that everything's okay now.

But for the moment, this victory feels good.

Hekate

ON EDIT: oh crap, I just saw on this thread that they'll be here for this year's election. oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap
