Soldiers go online to make their voices heard
http://www.aberdeennews.com/mld/americannews/news/opinion/9391268.htm

<snip>
Former Capt. David Chasteen and 1st Lt. Paul Rieckhoff, who is still serving in the Army National Guard, hope to ''educate the American public about the truth of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan from the perspective of the soldiers who have experienced them first-hand.''

Toward that end they hope that their Web site, www.optruth.org, will provide a forum for soldiers and Marines still serving in Iraq or just returned, to tell their stories, post their digital photos and voice their complaints.

Chasteen, a native of Muncie, Ind., and Rieckhoff, a native of New York City, said Operation Truth is a nonprofit soldiers advocacy organization and is nonpartisan, nonpolitical and not affiliated with any candidate. But, like the soldiers they hope will post on their website, they have more than a few bones to pick with those in charge of the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Rieckhoff told me, ''This is just a big, big After Action Review. After an operation in the military we sit down and talk it over. What was good, what was bad and how do we fix what was bad. The only people who ought to be afraid are those who have screwed up.''

5. Excellent site
Back door draft- Just a tidbit from a soldier on the site about extending contracts of the fighting men and women beyound what they signed up for.

This sneaky, unfair policy erodes the very foundation of our volunteer army and destroys troop morale. It undermines America's relationship with the troops and crushes their already exhausted families. It also conveniently prevents thousands of troops from returning to civilian life and speaking out about the war--just in time for the November election. How interesting

4. I visited the site...
and it appears that they have some real issues to work out...Good! Sadly, there appears to be an undertone of strongarm freeper crap, using all the logic fallacies in the book, that is running rampant and left unchecked and unchallenged. School playground bullies! Amazing, one or two jerks can really stink up a room.

6. Paul was on AAR a few week's ago
He was on Maj Rept. He truly stuck to a nuts & bolts teardown of the war. You can listen to the show at the link.

It really is a smackdown of Dumsfeld and the planning for the war.

7. I hope more service people become aware of the VA budget cuts.....
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 12:40 PM by leftchick
Knowing this I can not fathom how some soldiers continue to support this mis-administration. It is destroying our Armed services from Every aspect....:grr:

<snip>

• The Veterans Administration: The VA budget will be cut nearly $1 billion by the Administration in fiscal 2006 budget. In addition the VA is closing or drastically reducing services at 11 VA hospitals. Further, Operation Truth says, some 572,000 veterans are believed to be owed disability pensions but are unaware they are owed the money and no effort is being made to inform them. '

The two also hope to press for improved national support systems for National Guard and Reserve soldier families who are left to fend for themselves when their loved one deploys to war. Those families need the same network of support and services the Army provides active duty troops and their families.

8. I know this person already...
If am not mistaken, this is the guy that appears on The Majority Report. He is a fairly regular guest and he was there at the DNC. For those of you who listen to AAR this is hardly breaking news...

9. You have to scream about it though
If we are to get any info into the "main stream" media you have to spoon feed it to them or smack em up side the head to get them to notice a story like this. How much "old news" have you heard on CNN lately? Not a lot. If we scream loud enough they might cover it.
