Coors' move costly

Shift to East may mean loss of 200 jobs, Jeffco official says

By Gwen Florio, Rocky Mountain News
August 13, 2004

The ripple effect of the Adolph Coors Co.'s decision to shift some of its brewing operations to the East Coast goes far beyond the 30 to 40 jobs the company says will be lost in Colorado.

When ancillary jobs and economic spinoffs are factored in, the total is closer to 200 jobs lost at a cost of $8.5 million during the next two years to Jefferson County, said Preston Gibson, president and CEO of the Jefferson County Economic Council.

"I regret that they're taking those jobs to another community," Gibson said.

Across the country, Gibson's counterpart was ecstatic. The Coors Co.'s investment of up to $190 million in its Shenandoah plant in Elkton, Va., is the largest ever in Rockingham County, said county administrator Joseph S. Paxton.<snipped>

Effin' brilliant. If this is spread out, it'll mean we'll have Senator Salazar instead of Senator Coors.

4. Breweries are sacred!!!!

Moving a brewery is like moving a monastary. These are sacred places of the American Experience.

7. The porcelain division
long ago outsourced most of it's jobs to temp agencies to avoid having to pay benefits or give raises to it's employees. this is no surprise.

8. Oh & Bush will say he's creating jobs..Moving jobs from 1 place to another
is not creating jobs. I don't drink beer so I don't worry... But I would suggest that people boycott Coors beer.
