Kerry hit by 'race card' ads
Guardian Newspapers Limited

A wealthy white Republican contributor is funding adverts on black radio stations in important battleground states denouncing the Democratic presidential challenger, John Kerry, as "rich, white and wishy-washy".

The adverts also ridicule Mr Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, for boasting of her African roots. She was born and raised in Mozambique under colonial Portuguese rule. ..

The ads, which have infuriated the Kerry camp, are run by a Washington-based organisation called People of Colour United, backed by J Patrick Rooney, a white American who owns a medical insurance firm.

The company stands to profit from the prescription drug law passed last year by President George Bush.

1. And George ISN'T white, rich, and wishy washy as well?
I can understand the Bush regime trying to get away with this, but why isn't them media calling them on it?

6. It's really interesting, in a very sick kind of way...
whatever chimpy and his band of idiots call Senator Kerry is usually exactly what they are themselves.

Is this some weird form of projection, or are they really that hypocritical?

13. It's a deliberate strategy. Just listen to Rush Limbaugh...
Among other things, this tactic neutralizes criticism against the side that uses the tactic (Right Wing Republicans). Turns a legitimate dialog into "you are... no you are!". Just mixes people up, totally.

It's simple: just take every rotten, nasty thing about Right Wingers and attribute those things to Democrats. And act really shocked by how mean spirited the Democrats are, too.

Just listen to Limbaugh and you'll see it in action. I put in my 20 minutes listening last month and it was appalling.

Maybe they should go listen to Rev. Al's speech.

3. I heard the ad today.
I have two relatives who are black and registered republicans. They explain that there are republican officials at the local level they support. When I've asked them about Bush & Cheney, they both say that these are the last people on earth they would consider voting for.

Now, two people is a pretty small "group" to draw any conclusions from, but there aren't many black republicans in upstate New York. I don't think that the black democrats are likely to be swayed by this commercial.

I also have brown, red, and yellow relatives who are all democrats. I asked a brown relative about the commercial, and he thinks I'm making it up as a sick joke. He said that even the republicans won't try something that silly.

Can you imagine a commercial of "white folks for Kerry," saying that old Dick Cheney has been taking our race for granted? How is that any less ridiculous than the republican commercial?

14. I've seen those two.
They were in the movie "Amazon Women on the Moon". Something about B.B. King soliciting money for a group called Blacks Without Soul.

16. What a coincedence!
I just saw that movie this week on DVD that my wife found. I laughed at David Alan Grier and the two folks who were black and Republican on a golf court. They had no soul.

10. E X A C T L Y . . . .!!!

You've hit the nail on the head. The ROG wins either by converting a voter, or by creating a negative atmosphere that frustrates voters -- and depresses voter turnout. This, because, the ROG knows that the people, as a whole and allowed to think, are left-leaning.

Expect more of... fear-mongering, negativity, blatant lies, etc.

7. Maybe they will "infuriate" the Kerry camp enough to do something?
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 09:01 PM by Democat
Will we get another press release or will they finally get out and start fighting with advertising against Bush and these groups?

The more we don't make Bush pay, the more they will get dirty.

Bill Clinton said that every time they attack you, you have to make them pay. Clinton said that is the only way to stop them. Kerry is not making them pay, so they will not stop.

8. "boasting of her African roots"???
That reeks.

Let me get this straight. When you grow up a white-bread, blue-blood, spoiled rotten coke-snorting prep school punk, ex-cheerleader and military deserter, it's perfectly okay to put on a cowboy hat 20 years later, affect a southern drawl, and spin a coke-addled brain into dyslexia, but if you tell the truth about growing up in a dictatorship, which you did, in a country that you actually DID grow up in, then you are somehow guilty of boasting???????????

If telling the truth is boasting, then what is lying????
Oh, that's, well, lying.
