Already there is a sense of electricity, of triumph in the air as crowds vote

Katherine Lahey and community organizer Gustavo Borges report that as early as 3:30 a.m., Venezuelans ... in particular those from the poorer neighborhoods, were woken to the sounds of 'Toque del Diana' ... firecrackers, and songs of Ali Primera (one of the most popular voices of the Venezuelan Revolution). "Everywhere is in grand uproar responding to a call made days ago by President Hugo Chavez, to go out and vote early.

During multiple campaign events, El Comandante Hugo Chavez Frias had for the first time in the democratic history of Venezuela asked the people to heed his call to exercise their democratic right to vote.
Hundreds of thousands throughout the country took to the streets at dawn this August 15 in groups of 10, 15 , 20 people flooding to the different voting centers in popular zones such as El 23 de Enero, Petare, El Valle, Catia, Caricuao, and many others.

While the private media gave priority to voting centers in wealthy areas, state channel, Venezolana de Television (VTV) and alternative and community media gave a more balanced coverage of what was going on in the barrios.

Already there is a sense of electricity, reality, of triumph in the air as Chavez supporting crowds gather since the early hours of dawn at voting centers, aware of their civic responsibility to go out and vote.
