BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A U.S. soldier was killed and another injured in an accident after they came under fire south of the capital Baghdad, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement on Wednesday.

It said the soldiers were driving in a supply convoy southeast of the town of Diwaniya, 112 miles south of Baghdad, when they received small arms fire and struck another vehicle.

What US official said this??

U.S. officials in Iraq have said they believe the resistance to the U.S. occupation of the country will diminish once Saddam is caught and citizens no longer fear he might return to power.

9. Uh-huh...
I don't think the Iraqis give a damn if the man's swinging from a lamp post. This is about nationalism, not Saddam, anymore. They're pissed about the utilities, the lawlessness, the innocent dead, and they're taking it out on our guys in green and the UN because they're big easy targets.

13. I dunno...
I think things might have turned out different if they were able to get life back to normal as quickly as possible.

16. I think I figured out what those officials meant--
The US has been indiscriminately bombing, attacking, and raiding Iraqi residential areas in an Ahabesque search for Moby Saddam, so once that elusive prey is caught, average Iraqis will no longer have to fear the midnight visits!

Or something like that...:freak:

5. My God, the perfidy of those lying Busheviks!
Jesus, the Orwellian Madness just doesn't quit.

If you were watching an Ahnold Action Pukefest, and you saw the Hero pump a half-dozen rounds at a vehicle, which then crashes, "A-Team" style, in what fucking universe would you call that an "accident" and not a combat death.

Madness. Utter madness has overtaken the Empire.

War is Peace
Slavery is Freedom
Ignorance is Strength

15. Again
This is just one more example of a failed policy in Iraq, and further evidence that it's time to bring the boys home.
