Bush, Kerry press for female vote
Bush, Kerry press for female vote

By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer

Last Updated: August 16, 2004, 11:31:38 AM PDT

JENKINTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Elizabeth Burnosky is a registered Democrat who voted for President Bush in 2000, opposes his policy on Iraq and calls Sen. John Kerry "a little wussy boy." Call her conflicted.

"Probably for Bush, maybe not," said the 60-year-old retiree, standing outside her suburban Philadelphia home, squeezing rusty pliers around the stem of a stubborn water tap.

There may be no greater commodity in presidential politics than a voter like Burnosky - an undecided woman with no firm party allegiance. "I'd like to vote against Bush," she says, "but I don't know whether Kerry would keep us safe."

Polls show that single women generally favor Democrats, married women lean Republican, elderly women are more Democratic. Bush and Kerry are targeting swing-voting women such as Burnosky who defy categorization with their independence.

9. I'm still trying to figure that one out.
Would that macho lady like to take some fire along the MeKong Delta perhaps, and find out what a wussy she is?

5. 'elderly women' may have learned a thing or two, huh? I
thought women always tended to vote more on the Democratic side??
Health care, abortion issues, just to name a few?

Stepford women vote Republican.

6. good God
yeah why pay attention to anything related to reality or resembling an issue. I hate when people fail to think. It's like Clinton said, "When people think, Democrats win."

7. Real critical thinking skills on display.
Seems that's the case for anyone supporting Bush these days. "I'd vote for Bush because he's like my buddy BillyJoe...a guy I can have a beer with."

8. "Call her conflicted"????
How about "call her a moran?"

I'm not that far from 60, but I'm an educated woman who is able to think for myself instead of have the media think for me. Just because a woman is over 50 doesn't necessarily make her wise. Some women still aren't able to form an opinion for themselves, and I'll bet she's one.

10. Burnosky sounds like the typical ignorant voter that supports Bush
Kerry is a "wussy boy" because he doesn't go around talk tough acting like an idiot. when one has actions to prove they are tough they don't need to overcompensate with words as bush the coward does.

and by the way, most females are turned off by bush's macho tough guy act.

If this is the best Bush supporter W can hope for he is far worse than in serious trouble. AND she is not sure of voting for him anyway?

She has some vincible ignorance that can be dispelled, no enthusiasm for Bush, and no ammunition in the argument department. If this is becoming the typical Bush "likely voter" then it is hardly a case for frustration or a call to attack this poor woman.

Buy her a beer and show her the Kerry documentary. Maybe a ticket to F9/11. Looks pretty much like easy pickings to me.

I'm a woman, somewhat intelligent and this line
just doesn't resonate with me....I can think of
so many other issues that hit us in the wallets
and hearts first.

W does not stand for women.

24. It's absurd really.
This is the guy that let 9/11 happen, losing 3,000 innocent people because he was on VaKay 40+% of the time. This is the guy that froze in the classroom and did nothing. This is the guy that hid out for 12 hours afterwards.

How anyone can buy his "I'm keeping you safe" baloney is beyond me.

18. I don't like this article at all. Most women vote on the issues.
The majority of us study the issues and vote with our brain. That's why women have to work so cheap, we have used brains.

I personaly think democratic men have used brains too. There's something to like about repugs, they have brand new brains, never been used.

22. Quote: I don't know whether Kerry would keep us safe.
Bush presides over a massive failure (from the perspective of the people killed and their families) in Sept 2001. The Bush Junta does not keep us safe. That is a fact. They failed at keeping us safe. Sept. 2001 was just 1 example of a BUSH FAILURE to protect Americans.

Yet voters like the lady quoted in the story are wary of voting Democratic, because she doesn't know if Kerry will keep us safe.

Well, the proof is, Bush was not and is not capable of keeping us safe.

I just don't understand the psychology of "thinkers" like this voter.

Sept 01 was not a republican administration success, it was a republican failure. Jesus Christ, when will people open their eyes.
