Utahn Killed in Iraq
Aug. 18, 2004
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Utah man working for a U-S transport company is dead after an explosion in Iraq.

Kevin Rader was part of a convoy that delivered supplies and equipment to U-S troops, He was killed in an explosion on August eleventh.

The 34-year-old worked for Kellog Brown and Root, the same company that former hostage Thomas Hamill worked for when he was captured by insurgents but later escaped.

A K-B-R spokesman says Rader made the ultimate sacrifice while helping his country and the Iraqi people.

Comment: I hope it was worth IT ???

Forty-five K-B-R employees and subcontractors have been killed in Kuwait and Iraq.

3. He was helping his wallet too
As an employee of a private company, operating on the profit motive in Iraq (his and theirs), it doesn't seem right to lionize him too much. Naturally one feels sympathy for the family, but one doubts that his motives for being there were aimed particularly at helping the U.S. or Iraq. In any individual case, this could be incorrect, but in general any truck driver whose motives were confined to patriotism could join the services and help in a less self-interested fashion.

2. And KBR profits from his labor nonetheless.
Isn't it comforting to know that the owners of KBR can just sit back safely and collect their profits? Talk about "limited liability" and "risk avoidance" for ownership! :eyes:

Corporatism is the gross and inhuman perversion of capitalism.

4. How sad.. another death..
.. I do think the company is full of shit trying to paint this death as a patriotic sacrifice. Most of the people you read about doing these jobs are doing themb because nothing here in the U.S. pays anything NEAR what those jobs pay... thanks to Bush's economy.

I'm sorry for this guy's family. Another American, trying to make money in a dangerous place, because the jobs that pay like that here have dried up. But please, he's not an American hero. Driving a truck in Iraq has no bearing on our democracy.
