Coward Bush to have balls kicked (by McCain!) in new Dem ad.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/

Today, though, the Kerry campaign came out with a very powerful ad, one which in its tone and focus is exactly where the Kerry campaign needs to go.

It's called Old Tricks and the entire ad is a brief exchange from a debate from February 15th 2000 (which the political junkies among us probably remember) in which John McCain -- then in the thick of Bush's smears -- told Bush to his face to stop getting others to smear him over his war record. He ends by telling him he should be ashamed. The camera focuses on Bush and catches him not knowing how to respond, with what I think even his supporters would have to agree is a callow, trapped look on his face.

5. Yeah, would like to get into mccain's brain
cell and know exactly what he really thinks of it.

I'm sure we'll get some political reaction from him.

26. Dems need to taunt bush
This is good, the dems need to smoke bush out from hiding behind others. Throughout his entire time, he always finds others to do his dirty work and he hides his mistakes by blaming others. If the dems can smoke bush out into the open where Americans can see him in a true discussion of what both candidates did during Vietnam, Americans will quickly see that bush is a coward and Kerry is a hero. The bush team has made this a character issue and it's time Americans see what type of character the bush coward has.

7. POWERFUL!
Wow

Literaly brought tears to my eyes.

How can they sleep at night?

I mean, what they are doing should have veterans screaming for blood.

I have never served, but I would be.

It simply shits all over their sacrifices, while they themselves are chickenhawks!

I think I need a break.

Only so much sleeze I can take.

9. Bush didn't seem to
hurt McCain enough to keep him from wholeheartedly supporting him for reelection.

It's a terrific ad but I fear that it will have little effect. If McCain isn't bothered enough by George's dirty tricks to stop appearing with him at campaign events, why should the American people take his concern about this stuff seriously?

10. well, perhaps, Kerry in this new . . .
ad is attempting to appeal to John McCain's sensibilities and honor? Let's see how long McCain is capable of holding hands with GWBush and telling America that GWBush should disparage "that ad."

18. Exactly.
People (i.e. real journalists) need to start grilling John McCain on how he can continue to support a candidate who continues to act in a way McCain earlier called shameful.

That's what I like about this new, brief ad. It puts both Bush *and* McCain on the spot.

13. Do you think Kerry has talked to McCain about this ad?
Not so much asking permission but, advising him before he sees it on tv or hears about it from someone.

I believe Kerry would do that.

21. For those wondering why this ad isn't on television
the answer is simple: John McCain. McCain will probably just look the other way as long as the ad is limited to the internet. But I doubt Kerry campaign things it could get away with a TV spot using McCain as the hatchet man. That would certainly provoke a response from McCain, who has, after all, endorsed Bush.

24.  And What Would McCain Say?

Either what was done to him was shameful or it wasn't.

He was being accused of being mentally unstable after serving his country.

He can't denounce this ad without looking like a fool, a chump, and a sycophant.

He will keep his mouth shut about this, or agree with Kerry's message, but try to give a lame explanation as to why the chimp is the right man for these times.

No matter which he does, it will not help the chimp at all, and may end up hurting both him and McCain.

I think it's a nice move by the Kerry campaign. They should go national on tv with this.
