How about another hit of alcohol?
New York - A machine that lets drinkers inhale shots of alcohol went on display, even as one local lawmaker warned the device was "a disaster waiting to happen".

The Alcohol Without Liquid vaporiser mixes the alcohol with pressurised oxygen. Makers say it takes about 20 minutes to breathe in one shot, giving drinkers the effect of alcohol without the drunkenness, or hangover.

Democratic state Senator Carl Kruger pledged to introduce legislation to ban its use, calling the inhaler, manufactured in England and distributed domestically by North Carolina-based Spirit Partners, a "new form of pipe smoking" and saying it could encourage underage drinking and drunken driving.

Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's office said the issue had been referred to the State Liquor Authority, and declined to comment. A message left with the agency was not immediately returned.

1. Now here's progress. What this country needs is another
way to ingest booze, since so many are unable to get that elbow working. Meanwhile, low cost mammograms using new technology? FUHGEDDABOUDIT!

3. How can you ban a METHOD of ingesting alcohol?
To call an alcohol vaporizer "a new form of pipe smoking" is beyond retarded. You might as well ban water vaporizers while you're at it, since it might encourage kids with respiratory problems to try crack.

I agree with you! WTF!
The effect of alcohol is drunkenness. Ask drinkers why they drink: "Well, I love the taste, but that getting drunk part is just so negative, I wish we could do away with that."

'S what I thought............

6. Yes, isn't that sort of like the effect of sex without the orgasm?
Or the effect of Twinkies without the yummy creme filling and golden spongy cake?

5. Ya know, the younger crowd has been "snorting" booze for years.
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 09:55 AM by VolcanoJen
It's not something that tavern owners condone, but it's rather common to sell some shots (usually tequila or bourbon) to a patron, watch him take the shots over to his table of friends, and then watch them drizzle the alcohol onto the table and snort it through a drinking straw like it's a line of cocaine.

God, it must burn... but it's becoming a pretty popular method of alcohol ingestion, especially among the early-20s "preppy" crowd...

At least this method vaporizes the booze, which might take care of that drippy, burning feeling...?

8. In my youthful days of indescretion
Some friends and I basically tried this. Poured a few shots of vodka in a sauce pan covered save for a small tube we intended to inhale the vapors from and slowly heated it. Tried for a few minutes until the smart kid among us wondered aloud if our lungs would get drunk first and pass out.
Oh those teenage years, I wonder how I survived
