Howard trust 'laughable': ex-spy (Green opponent)
18:00 AEST Mon Aug 30 2004

<snip>
If Mr Wilkie were to win the blue ribbon Sydney seat of Bennelong, it would be the first time in 75 years a prime minister was unseated.

"I think it is absolutely laughable that John Howard is going to focus on trust during the election campaign," Mr Wilkie told reporters, fellow Greens and one heckler at Eastwood shopping mall in Sydney's north-west.

He cited the GST, the children overboard affair, and the Iraq war as issues where Mr Howard had lied, and pledged never to lie himself.
<snip>

Mr Wilkie quit as a senior analyst with the Office of National Assessments in March last year, and told the media that intelligence on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs did not justify war.

1. Howard is 'evil' but he has a strong economy behind him.
Whatever happens, Howard is going to lose a lot of power thanks to propotional representation.
