Annan: US faces struggle for troops in Iraq
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N22393618.htm

UNITED NATIONS, Aug 22 (Reuters) - U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan warned the United States on Friday it would not get Security Council support for more troops in Iraq unless it ceded some decision-making power in the country.

"It would also imply not just burden-sharing but also sharing decision and responsibility with the others," Annan said. "If that doesn't happen, I think it is going to be very difficult to get a second resolution that will satisfy everyone."

Despite worldwide anguish over the bombing of the U.N. compound in Baghdad, the United States faces considerable resistance in its quest for a U.N. Security Council resolution that would recruit more troops, police and money to help rebuild Iraq if it does not relinquish some control.

The same countries -- France, Russia, Germany -- who opposed the invasion of Iraq are asking for broader international control across the board in the political and economic as well as security spheres.

3. This is amazing
We blow off the UN, then invade Iraq, find no WMD's, then all hell breaks loose. Now we go back to the UN and ask other countries to send troops over there to get killed in place of Americans without ceding any control whatsoever to the UN. Doesn't that pretty much sum up what the Idiot in Chief* wants? Shrub* must think the rest of the world is really stupid.

5. And the Bush Junta will never, NEVER agree to share power over Iraq...
... so that means next stop, Quagmire City.

The next president is going to have a hell of a job on his hands cleaning up Junior's messes. Iraq's the worst, but there are many others, I'm sure we all know the tune...
