Cheney Family Appearance Spotlights Absence of Lesbian Daughter
US Newswire

At the Republican Convention last night, Vice President Dick Cheney gave the acceptance address and then appeared with his wife, daughter, son-in-law grandchild number 1, grandchild number 2, grandchild number 3 and, awash in the bright stage lights and swathed in blankey, infant grandchild number 4. But where was Cheney's lesbian daughter, Mary? ..

"Sadly, the message last night was that Mary was not welcome to share the stage with her straight sister," said Ron Schlittler, executive director of PFLAG. "It was a missed opportunity by Lynn and Dick Cheney to show the country a family in all its diversity, sharing an exciting moment together." ..

3. I was surprised actually
because not many people are more powerful than Cheney. If it was the daughter's choice, I find it strange as from what I have heard she works actively for his campaign. If she is embarassed by the GOP platform, then why work for the GOP? If repukes are embarassed by her, then why have anything to do with them. The whole thing is just weird.

5. Why Is The Media Dodging This GLARING Story?
1.) Here's George Bush, the President of the United States, publicly calling for the first AMENDMENT to the CONSTITUTION in decades about gay marriages. He's made it part of his re-election campaign and part of his DISTINCTION between him and John Kerry.

2.) Bush's very own Vice President publicly announces that his daughter, Mary, is a lesbian after three years of silence about her known sexual orientation...on the eve of the GOP National Convention.

3.) The chosen (not even elected) Republican Senatorial Candidate in Illinois, Alan Keyes, calls the Vice President's daughter a "selfish, hedonistic" person and a "sinner" in a public forum and refuses to back down from his position...the day before the Vice President speaks to the nation on his special night at the GOP convention.

4.) Neither the Vice President or his outspoken wife come to the defense of their very own daughter who has been singled out by a national Republican figure, Alan Keyes. THEY DO NOT STICK UP FOR THEIR OWN DAUGHTER.

5.) Cheney gives his speech which is covered live by EVERY broadcast television network and cable outlet (CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, FOX and C-SPAN). His wife and heterosexual daughter, son-in-law, and grandchild all join him on the stage in front of millions upon millions watching. HIS DAUGHTER, THE ONE HE WON'T STICK UP FOR WHO HAS BEEN CALLED VICIOUS NAMES BY A FELLOW REPUBLICAN, DOES NOT JOIN HER FAMILY ON STAGE FOR HER FATHER'S BIGGEST NIGHT...IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT SHE IS RIGHT THERE IN NEW YORK CITY.

WHY IS THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AFRAID TO DEFEND HIS DAUGHTER? IS HE ASHAMED OF HER?

Family values?

Where's the goddamned news media on this?

24. and just maybe
he didn't want her to be an opportunity for his loyal followers that filled the delegate seats to show the hatefilled hypocrisy of the republican party to the nation. big tent, and all.

not that he would mind how SHE felt, it just wouldn't look good for the campaign for all those delegate eyes to glaze over with hate.

tends to put people off, y'know?

13. She wasn't far away
I believe she was right there at the convention.

I think this is sad, whatever the reason. She deserved to be up on stage with her family.

9. The delegates are such a bunch of
rw whack jobs that they might have stormed the stage to remove her. But I think the real utterly pathetic reason was that the repukes didn't want an openly gay person on the stage - and it speaks volumes about the Cheneys that they were willing to go along with the charade.

12. Perception
How would it look for a "selfish, hedonistic" SINNER to be on that stage behind a pulpit displaying a Cross?

Cheney's words are cancelled by his actions. Aren't you all surprised?

10. Then WHY is she there?
I don't care if it's a parent, or not, I would NEVER accept being left out because of whom I loved. Has she no self-respect???? This was SO wrong.

I mean, would you? If Dick Cheney were my father, I'd be deeply ashamed. I can only imagine that she feels that way, too.

15. it's shameful that parents would portray themelves
before the country as a family, yet leave one of their daughters out of sight because she's gay. c'mon, it's not like the world doesn't know cheney's got a gay daughter. which made her absence even more glaring.

i feel sorry for her. that had to have hurt, even though she is in her father's employ.

pictures are worth thousands of words and that one last night spoke volumes about what kind of people the cheneys are.

16. laura Bush was interviewed
this afternoon and the interviewer asked her about Cheney's daughter not showing up yesterday. Laura Bush said something like she would be welcome on the podium tonight with both our families.

22. More like crouching behind the podium or
way, way back in the crowd so she's not real obvious. If there is a both families together moment, expect them to stick her behind the tequila twins who'll be grabbing all the attention with their butts and boobs barely covered.

It would make a really funny sitcom, but it's sad as hell as a "reality" show.

23. LOL
I am going to try to steel myself and watch it tonight for about an hour when Bush comes on. Haven't had the guts to do that this week; 5 minute intervals only once an hour before I start shaking.

Note the comment on the twins and their clothes or lack thereof...even their clothes are teenybopper in style, arent' they? matching their brain development.

18. How sad
Either the Cheneys are ashamed of her, or they were afraid the GOP mob would lynch her on stage.

She obviously has embraced the role, too. :puke:

Liz, otoh, apparently loves being a "breeder." I guess she figures she gets Mary's "share."
