Hackles raised by Rove words on North (Irish) conflict - (Irish Response)
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 02:09 PM by khephra
Top Bush White House adviser Karl Rove has prompted an angry riposte form the John Kerry campaign after he compared America's war against terrorism with British actions in the Northern Ireland conflict.

snip........

"This is going to be more like the conflict in Northern Ireland where the Brits fought terrorism, and there's no sort of peace accord with al-Qaida saying, 'we surrender,'" Rove was reported as saying in the interview, the content of which was released Thursday.

snip....

New York attorney Frank Durkan, who chairs the Americans for a New Irish Agenda group, said that Rove's remarks demonstrated "an abysmal ignorance" as to the nature of and reasons for the conflict in Northern Ireland.

snip......

"Karl Rove's comments to AP today suggest that there was no peace accord between the British and the IRA," said a Kerry spokesman.

Damn..... Hold your breaks, DUers, but if anyone does not have even a passing knowledge of Irish history so that Rove's statement makes you as angry (or at least appalled) as I, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GO READ UP!!!!!!!!!

I'm angry enough that this administration has such a one-sided view of the Israeli-Palestinian situation, but to view the Northern Ireland conflict as akin to Al Qaeda is just TOO much.

This is so, so, so arrogant and yes, I agree with one of the quotes: this is so reflective of their true views of Catholics imo (and I'm not Catholic, should you make the assumption)....

I criticize Mike Malloy on occasion, but right now I heartily agree with him when he rants "how much he hates these _____" (fill in with your favorite derogatory term).

This is why education & international experience matters when we select a President AND his/her cabinet and advisors. God Damn it, we can't have another administration staffed with nothing but arrogant, incurious, uneducated "FRAT RATS," legacy appointments, and token minority appointments in inappropriate, yet critical positions designed for "show only" (i.e., Condi Rice). This is just so f'in stupid.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I will say that Colin Powell must be shitting bricks by now. Kerry needs to make a big deal about big mouth Rove, a political consultant with no background/training in foreign affairs, being housed in the WH, paid by tax dollars, and given this much influence!

I have to log off now and cool down. Damn, the world will forever remember this four years. We will not soon repair the damage.

15. Is he saying that we intend to occupy Iraq for 800 years,
make all Iraqis second class citizens, deny them the right to votes and education, steal their land and give it those we wish to reward with political favors, quell their religion, take their most valuable resource and sell it on the world market while Iraqis starve..... oh yeah, I guess he is saying that.
