White House urges N.C. GOP to hit Edwards' record
The Associated Press

North Carolina Republicans who attended their party's national convention this week got marching orders from White House aides who urged them to talk down Sen. John Edwards, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee.

"North Carolina, you've got a very special responsibility," said Ruben Barales, a White House advisor to President Bush, at a delegation meeting Thursday. "You need to tell the rest of the world about John Edwards. Tell them what he's like as a politician, and let them know about John Edwards." ..

A spokeswoman defended Edwards' record, saying that he has been an effective representative since his election in 1998.

"John Edwards has fought for the people of North Carolina and has been talking about issues that affect the voters of North Carolina every day," said Kathleen Connery, a Kerry-Edwards campaign spokesperson. "He will be valuable to the people of North Carolina as a voice in the White House."

Edwards' presence on the Democratic ticket has brought the national campaign to North Carolina - a sharp contrast to four years ago, when Democratic candidate Al Gore did not contest the state and Bush won by 13 percentage points. ..

1. They can go on ahead. And we can look at how George
muffed the terrorist threat leading to 9/11, his failing to fund No Child Left Behind, his giving moribund energy companies freer reign to ravage our lands, public and private, in a ridiculous search for too little too late sources of gas and oil.... and on, and more drearily on. Or we could look at Cheney's repeated attempts to downsize the military, the elimination of the Apache helicopter, the Bradley Fighting machine, the M-1s and the F-14 and the F-16, the B-2 bomber, the MX missile and he helped cut the defense budget by $300 billion. And George, Cheney, and Rumsfeld sent our soldiers poorly equipped and grossly understaffed, into a war they ignorantly thought would be a walk in the park. They refused to listen to our own generals who understand what was happening, and that tragedy would be forthcoming.

I say, BRING IT ON!

2. of course they did...
That's because if there's a problem with his service, it has to come from within the state itself. Tar Heels do not take kindly to outsiders telling them what to do or say.

I lived in NC for 10 years, and voted for Edwards in '98. He won easily against his millionaire opponent. If there were problems, they certainly would have been voiced by now.

Sounds like desperation.

Love you, John! And Elizabeth!:loveya: :loveya:
