Judge Fines NYC Over Protester Detentions
http://cnn.com.tr/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/02/convention.protests/

excerpt

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A judge in Manhattan held the city of New York in contempt Thursday, saying police did not abide by his order to release more than 500 people arrested in protests this week.

The judge imposed a $1,000 fine for every person who was not released.

State Supreme Court Judge John Cataldo had initially ordered that 560 people, rounded up in demonstrations surrounding the Republican National Convention, be released or made ready for arraignment by 5 p.m. Thursday.

1. Good. The bastard NYPD arresting people just for show.
All so the Republicans could make a big stink that over a thousand were arrested...largely for nothing of course, but arrested. Scumbags.

2. The repukes did the same thing
in Scranton, PA today at a * rally for 4 counties..They passed the rumor that protestors were coming from the convention and were going to "crash the rall", and as a result, they set up a courtroom for arrests which was also in the local paper tonite...No one was arrested, and no one crashed the rally!!!

3. Applause from here!
I just want to bake Judge Cataldo some brownies for upholding the people's right to peacefully assemble without being arrested.
