New Iraqi Prime Minister Allawi a Longtime CIA Source
New Iraqi Prime Minister Allawi a Longtime CIA Source

WASHINGTON - The new Iraqi prime minister, trying to stave off attacks by anti-American militants, has a long relationship with Washington as a trusted intelligence source, former officials say.

Ayad Allawi also helped British intelligence gather information about Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s regime during nearly three decades in exile. Once a member of Saddam's Baath Party, Allawi later formed the Iraqi National Accord to act as a conduit for defectors from, and sources in, the former Iraqi government.

Now Allawi heads the appointed Iraqi interim government struggling to assert its authority and its independence from the United States. Allawi has taken a hard line against militants, threatening them with military action while pressing for negotiations to have anti-government militias lay down their arms.

The Iraqi prime minister has said he's proud of his contacts with Washington and other governments and claimed he worked with "at least 15" intelligence agencies while in exile.

Ex-C.I.A. Aides Say Iraq Leader Helped Agency in 90's Attacks
by Joel Brinkley

WASHINGTON, June 8 — Iyad Allawi, now the designated prime minister of Iraq, ran an exile organization intent on deposing Saddam Hussein that sent agents into Baghdad in the early 1990's to plant bombs and sabotage government facilities under the direction of the C.I.A., several former intelligence officials say.

Dr. Allawi's group, the Iraqi National Accord, used car bombs and other explosive devices... Ex-CIA officer Robert Baer, recalled that a bombing during that period "blew up a school bus; schoolchildren were killed."

Dr. Allawi's group, the Iraqi National Accord, used car bombs and other explosive devices smuggled into Baghdad from northern Iraq, the officials said. Evaluations of the effectiveness of the bombing campaign varied, although the former officials interviewed agreed that it never threatened Saddam Hussein's rule.

3. So Ayad Allai engineered a bombing which blew up "his own people,"
namely Iraqi children on a school bus, and that's o.k. with us. I see. No faulty reasoning there, huh?

Bush administration should bless each new day they live and see it as a day to relieve some of the suffering they have caused, but I won't hold my breath.

Dishonest is such an empty, incomplete word for these creeps.
