Protesters near Bush ranch demand withdrawal of troops from Iraq
http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily/news/6603183.htm

CRAWFORD, Texas - (KRT) - The ongoing, emotional debate over Iraq came to President Bush's doorstep Saturday.

While protesters near the presidential ranch in Crawford urged that American troops be brought home from Iraq, Bush called their effort there a major offensive in the war on terrorism.

"There will be no flinching in this war on terror, and there will be no retreat," Bush said in his weekly radio address.

Among those gathering at the local football stadium to denounce both Bush and the war, four days after a terrorist bombing at the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad, were relatives of troops.

"George Bush does not support our soldiers," said Candance Robison, whose husband is an Army lieutenant in Iraq. "He lies to our nation and our soldiers about our reasons for going to war. He makes thoughtless statements like, `Bring `em on' to the Saddam loyalists who target our troops."

2. About 100, according to the Statesman
Families, friends of troops ask Bush for their return

Robison, who lives in Krum, said she has opposed the war from the beginning. When she learned that Bush was going to spend August at his ranch, she decided to bring her message to the president personally.

"I was going to sit on the side of the road near the ranch with my two children and wait as long as I had to with my husband's picture," she said. "I don't know; maybe he would invite me in, and I could tell him about my family and all the other families who want to bring their loved ones back from this war."

4. Now this is a beautiful thing.
I have new respect for Texans. My sister lives there and I visit at least once a year. It is nice to know the US is waking up. Now, if Florida would get with the program, I'd know the times were a changin'.

Still cautious, but dancing in my seat here. Everytime any dissention gets covered I get more hopeful. Soon it will be all over the major papers. Drip, drip....TSUNAMI!

5. Honestly, they really need to THINK before they speak!
<snip>
"A Palestinian state will never be built on a foundation of violence," Bush said.
<snip>

Do they think that an Iraqi democratic state will be built on a foundation of violence IMPOSED by the US/UK?

11. People are beginning to feel real pain.
All the people who thought it would never happen to them -- that this kind of pain only happens in faraway places like New York -- are seeing their sons and daughters killed or injured half a world away. They're losing their jobs. They're not able to find new ones. They're losing their retirement savings. Their kids' schools are falling down around them. The list goes on and on. People in this country (and even in Texas) are feeling real pain, and they are starting to understand what is causing that pain. If Texas of all places is waking up (and I believe it is, be it ever so slowly) then we have reason to hope that the rest of the country will wake up as well.

6. I disagree with them...
We need to secure Iraq not withdraw from it and let it further erupt into chaos.

22. you can't know that..
You only know what you see on tv. I seriously doubt Iraqis want no help. Arab nations surrounding Iraq are criticizing us for not securing Iraq enough.

7. J'ever notice they never show the pics..

Seems like 9 outta 10 times one of these VERY frequent protests actually makes it into an article or news item online, they don't include a photo of the protesters... I find that disturbing..

10. These people are very legit
You can go to http://www.bringthemhomenow.org/ for more information. They announced this rally at the press conference covered on cspan for military families weeks ago.
They have a very real bitch, their husbands, wives, sons, daughters etc... suffer daily in Iraq for the neocons and the bfee. Many have had their eyes opened and are spreading the message that our soldiers are being hung out to dry in the Iraqi heat.
The rally should have been story one on the evening news.

12. It will be interesting to see how long the MEDIA will suppress

coverage of what looks to be the re-emergence of the anit-war movement entitled BRING 'EM HOME - BRING THE BOYS HOME - END THE OCCUPATION.

14. I was there in Crawford...
And it wasn't held in the football field a few feet away. We had to have the meeting out on the blistering parking lot with no place to sit and four police cars parked beside us. I don't know whose idea it was to not let us on the grassy field, but media cameras were there, and they saw. It was a small gathering, but a lot was said. I suspect that every license plate there was written down by the police.
