3. That one debate
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 12:25 PM by Scooter24
probably falls during another one of his 30-day vacation periods. He didn't want something as "trivial" as a presidential debate to interfere with his "working" vacation.

6. Bush is simply afraid of the public
From the article...

The audience for the second debate, to be at Washington University in St. Louis, was to be picked by the Gallup Organization. The commission said participants should be undecided voters from the St. Louis area.

A presidential adviser said campaign officials were concerned that people could pose as undecided when they actually are partisans.

Bush's handlers don't want him to face questions from unhappy citizens, since the handlers realize that the woes of the citizenry are a reflection on the current administration.

20. Next Paragraph...Spokesman doesn't want to annoy Bush?
A presidential adviser said campaign officials were concerned that people could pose as undecided when they actually are partisans.

"It's not a fear of the format," said the adviser, who refused to be identified to avoid annoying Bush. "They want two debates that are focused on clear differences on foreign and domestic policy. We benefit from the differences."

The adviser refused to be identified...
Is Bush that rattled right now that he even strikes out at his own advisers for defending him?

7. Kerry should hold a mock debate.
Against a cardboard cutout of Bush with another cutout of Cheney behind it. When Bush answers Cheney's lips will move. Maybe they could get John Stewart to act as the moderator.

11. I LIKE It!
Since it would be the most accurate depiction of current events, let's go with the cardboard cutout debate.

After all, Bush would much rather debate the chimerical, totally imaginary Kerry that his handlers created than a real live human being (of any sex and political persuasion), and he does so at every opportunity. Turnabout is fair play!

10. New meme: to Bush: be there or empty chair! be there or emtpy chair!
the debate should go on with Kerry alone because of the format is an opportunity for the PEOPLE to query the candidates. Just because one candidate is a wimp, should not infringe on the people's right to ask questions of the other candidate.

Kerry camp: attend anyways.

21. Call the Commission on Presidential Debates
I can't afford to make LD calls right now, but whoever can, please call the Commission on Presidential Debates (CDP) at (202) 872-1020. Find out what is the proposed second debate topic, and should Bush not attend, will Kerry and the (Bush) empty chair be there, or will the debate be cancelled completely.

Thanks O8)

29. Wouldn't be the first time Bush was a no show!
Nice point to make, and let Kerry do all the talking.

Maybe start saying this.

"Apparently President Bush is afraid to answer these questions. I've never been afraid to face fire."

13. As much as I hate Bush
skipping the third debate is what Clinton did in 1996, so I am going to treat this as an acceptable campaigning tactic and concentrate on his real fuck-ups.

32. Refresh my memory on 1996
I can find links to two Clinton-Dole debates in 1996.

Do you have further information on Clinton "skipping" the third debate? What reason was given?

15. I think he knows what he is in for
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 12:40 PM by ChrisK
And thats allot of negative press when it comes to issues he would rather not see spoken while he is on stage or in the medias eye.

He is the type of person that will talk about something till it goes bad...Then he puts as much distance from it and himself as he can...a debate will just bring all these negative things back into focus and he will be taken to task for them and if he isn't ready it will look far worse for him.

He really doesn't have all that much to debate on his end..He sees the world in a different light and that light seems to be getting dimmer and dimmer in his world.

18. The rules of this forum are
that the headline must match exactly.

Your headline should read

"Bush likely to bow out of one debate"

This is done to hake clear what the story is about, and to avoid duplicates. Please read the rules pinned at the top of the forum.

24. so the other 2 debates R focused
and his earpiece will come in handy 3 remind him of keep domestic or foreign policy points. But QUESTIONS from VOTERS that haven't signed the loyalty oath, we can't have that. It would underscore what an MT hat the rat bastard really is. The Kerry camp should nail his ass for wimping out - Girlie man - and not stop.
