Autopsy Set for Priest Killed in Prison
By ROBERT O'NEILL
Associated Press Writer

BOSTON (AP) -- An autopsy will be conducted Monday on former priest John Geoghan, the convicted child molester who died after apparently being strangled in prison.

Geoghan, who was at the center of the sex abuse scandal that rocked the Catholic church, died Saturday after being attacked by a fellow inmate at the state prison in Shirley, Worcester District Attorney John J. Conte said. He was 68.

Geoghan died at 1:17 p.m., shortly after he was taken to a Leominster hospital; preliminary investigations indicated he was strangled, Conte said.

The former priest didn't deserve to be killed, some victims and their advocates say, but his death probably won't bring much comfort to survivors of clergy sex abuse.

1. I ask myself the same thing.......
Being strangled in prison is really, really a life changing senerio from being a priest a year ago.....Amazing how life works.

I guess it is too harsh.....I'm ambivilant here....I think prison was a life changing hell for the guy.....long suffering has it's positives.

I would rather see the guy who killed Polly Klaas get the same. Now that would be a true service to mankind.

2. While I admit that I'm not shedding any tears, either,
I don't understand how it happened if he was supposed to be in protective custody. It seems to me that it was allowed to happen, and that's wrong.
