Tainted Mail Sent to Five Governors

HELENA, Mont. -- At least five Western and Midwestern governors received envelopes in the mail Thursday rigged to ignite when opened. In Montana, the envelope prompted the evacuation of part of the state Capitol.

The envelopes, rigged with matches set to ignite when opened, were sent to the governors of Montana, Idaho, Nebraska, Washington and Utah. There were no reports of injuries.

All the letters appeared to have come from a maximum-security prison in Nevada, where another letter also turned up at the office of the state corrections director.

Matches also ignited when letters to Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne and Nebraska Gov. Mike Johanns were opened by staff members in Boise and Lincoln and in the office of Jackie Crawford, the state corrections director in Carson City, Nev. There were no evacuations in those states.




Officials said the letters were postmarked from Ely State Prison in Ely, Nev. They went on to say the letters were troubling? Good thing they weren't postmarked Iran or North Korea, we would be on the verge of an international incident instead.

That was my forst thought too, but I think this is just a bunch of restless inmates.

BTW, how does one ignight a match by opening an envelope????

That was my first thought too. How many of them were Dems. WTF has happened to this country?

This stuff was sent from a maximum security prison? Geeeeeezh.
