U.S. NewswireMore than 2,500 veterans and military families joined 40,000 citizens in 1,060 communities on short notice last night to mourn the deaths of over 1000 American soldiers killed in Iraq (news - web sites) and protest President Bush (news - web sites)'s continuing policy failures there.
"Its heartbreaking that so many Americans have been killed in the prime of their lives for a war without apparent reason and with no end in sight," said Peter Schurman, executive director of MoveOn.org. "President Bush owes us all some answers," said Schurman.
From Cleveland Ohio to Des Moines, Iowa, parents and their children joined with their neighbors and strangers in lighting a candle for one hour last night at 8 p.m.
Even in hurricane ravaged Orlando, Florida, local residents gathered for their vigil.
