U.S. May Drop Bid for New U.N. Resolution

WASHINGTON - After a high-profile pitch at the United Nations for more countries to send troops to Iraq, the Bush administration is encountering resistance and may not seek a Security Council resolution after all, U.S. officials said Monday.

"We have not yet made a determination," Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage told reporters, alluding to the possibility of a new resolution.

Other officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted the strong stand that some U.N. members had taken against the U.S. decision to go to war with Iraq in March without the council's blessing.

Asked about the status of any new resolution, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, John Negroponte, said, "We're nowhere near a text on Iraq."

1. Uh ... oookay.
Last time they swore up and down they'd get a new resolution then called abort and went ahead without it, was the Iraq invasion itself.

It makes me wonder if the Bush administration thinks they can likewise just blow off the UN again and unilaterally decide to commit French, German, and Russian soldiers to action in Iraq. :eyes:

2. Since all the significant countries involved....
...have already independently told bush*:"Not just NO, but FUCK NO!!!!", bush*s handlers have no choice but to fold. The other option is to get laughed out of the UN.
