Cheney tells OR voters he doubts Kerry has what it takes to fight terror
Countering criticism of President Bush's war strategy, the vice president accuses the Democrat of being indecisive on Iraq

Saturday, September 18, 2004

JEFF MAPES and ALICE TALLMADGE

Vice President Dick Cheney, firing back at new Democratic criticism of the Bush administration's handling of the war in Iraq, on Friday questioned Democrat Sen. John Kerry's fitness to serve as commander in chief.

Cheney, appearing before supporters in Oregon City and at Eugene Airport, charged that Kerry has repeatedly shifted his views on Iraq and that this casts doubt on his ability to lead the nation's war on terror.

"I don't see that kind of fundamental, core capability to make decisions and stick with them," Cheney said in his Oregon City appearance. He added later that "it is this sort of on-again, off-again proposition I find disturbing in a man who wants to be commander in chief."

Cheney continued to hammer away at Kerry during his Eugene rally inside a private hangar as many of the 3,000 supporters there chanted, "Flip-flop, flip-flop." At one point, however, his speech was interrupted by an anti-war protester.

7. Kerry should point out
that Cheney, who criticizes him as being unable to conduct a war on terror, has spent most of the past three years hiding in a hole in the ground. That he has only come out of his famous,"undisclosed secret location" to campaign for Dubya and, that after the election, will probably go back in his "spider hole" and count the money that he has made off "the war on terror"..

Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 10:04 AM by teryang
To take control of the national military command authority to make sure that no one can obstruct or defend against the orchestrated 911 attacks. It takes the heart of a traitorous machiavellian defense contractor.

911 happened on his watch. How does that equate to strength on terrorism?

Don Bagwell, a 14-year-old student at Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, told the vice president that when he sought permission to miss school for the Cheney event, he was warned by a teacher that Bush would reinstate the draft if re-elected.

Cheney assured Bagwell that the volunteer military was working well and that he didn't foresee a return to the draft, short of a national crisis on the scale of World War II.

33. Was this a show
One protester who made his way into the Eugene rally shouted, "Stop
the war, bring home the troops," several times before he was tackled
by Springfield resident Arthur Briga, a senior citizen and former
Marine. Security officers then escorted the demonstrator from the
hangar. Cheney urged the crowd to treat the protester "with kindness."
"BULLSHIT"
http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/front_page/1095508771276280.xml

What they don't say is the protester wore a pro church t-shirt
and that while five or six old thugs held the man on the floor
of the hanger ... chaney over the microphone was saying... go
easy on him now boys he might see the light as he smiled.

Why tackle the guy?...Wasn't this guy using his first amendment right?

What was he saying?..."Stop the war, bring home the troops"

Freedom of speach was being squelched again by the republicans.

Or

Was this a show put on for the benifit of the media?
bought an paid for by the republicans.

Who is he? What happened to the guy? Where is he?

19. unfortunately, look for this to be a MAJOR attack meme
there's a very bad internal in the NTY poll, I think, that the MEDIA are playing up big: that Bush is FAR more capable of handling international situations/terror, etc.

I don't like it, but that's what is working for them, and I heard it on local Chicago radio, as well as ABC radio news last night....JUST that bit from that particular poll at the top of the hour news

WHY would they pick that out as being newsworthy?

you KNOW why: it's going to be a major component of the Bush/media GORing of Kerry

watch for them to use it until that number starts turning around

this scares the crap out of me.....I got a sick feeling in my stomach when I heard it last night

20. I have good news for anyone who's wondering about Oregon
I've been keeping track of the letters to the editor of our local paper, The Oregonian. While they don't publish all the letters which are received, they do tally what the letters say and publish the results. The current number seems to be about 5 to 1 favoring Kerry. That's quite a substantial number.

Also, I work very close to downtown Portland. At lunchtime, I usually take a 1/2 hour walk through the neighborhoods where my office is. There are lots of signs posted in people's yards. So far, I have only seen ONE Bush/Cheney sign. The rest are the Blue and Red Kerry/Edwards signs.

Mr. Kerry, I don't think you will have a problem in Oregon.

23. Since American foreign policy is at the root of terrorism
the only way to address the terrorism problem is by changing US foreign policy, including our enabling of Israel's Occupation of Palestine. I doubt that any major party candidate running for President today is willing to do that and risk incurring the wrath of the Israel lobby.

Somehow soul-searching is not part of America's political lexicon.

As to Cheney's remarks, he misses the point entirely. For Cheney to be credible he would have to lambaste his own Administration for creating such a cesspool of terrorism in Iraq, with US troops being part of that terror.

There was a poster that thomaspaine had on their website prior to the invasion of Iraq on March 20, 2003. The poster depicted Osama bin Laden in an "Uncle Sam wants you" recruiting poster in which he challenged the US to invade Iraq because that would boost Al-Qaeda's recruitment efforts.

As long as there are American troops in the Middle East, and as long as the US ignores the plight of Palestinians, there will be no chance of getting a handle on the terrorism problem.

He wouldn't know what 'fundamental core capacity to make decisions and stick to them' looked like if it snatched back his head and s#!t down his throat.

AT LEAST KERRY SHOWED UP AND SERVED. Period. That is where this whole arguement ends. This nation's war on terror seems to be led by those who have never stared terror in the face and vanquished it. The only thing Cheney is scared of is losing money-=-and if that happened, he would chew on the business end of a gun instead of being a man and taking his asswhippin' for his decisions.

has a healthy sense of Irony. Chickenhawks talking about how weak those who are decorated war veterans are...god that's rich...I'm still wondering why the audience didn't erupt in laughter though...that's some great standup he's got going there.

I have come to believe that reports of Cheney's heart attacks are all forged however. It's quite clear that he cannot have a heart attack, because the essential organ is entirely missing.
