Gotta love the headline.

Bush backflip in combat appeal

US PRESIDENT George W. Bush will this week appeal to the international community he once scorned for help in Afghanistan and Iraq as he warned that violence there would worsen as their elections drew near.

Mr Bush, who will speak to the United Nations General Assembly in New York late tomorrow, said in his national radio address yesterday that the world had an interest in the two countries succeeding.
"Never in the history of the United Nations have we faced so many opportunities to create a safer world by building a better world," he said.

"For the sake of our common security, and for the sake of our common values, the international community must rise to this historic moment. And the United States is prepared to lead."

Mr Bush said he would outline at the UN this week more proposals to secure Afghanistan and Iraq.

1. So let me get this straight......
We make a bloody fucking mess of two countries and then Bush just expects the rest of the world to clean it up?

What fucking arrogance!

31. That assumes he recognizes that there is an actual mess.
Then, there's the big one - does he even realize it's HIS mess?

But you're correct about one thing - assuming he DOES recognize that it's a mess over there, he will CERTAINLY presume that someone else will clean it up. After all, the world is divided into two subsets: 1) friends of the bushies and 2) the help. And the people he's going to hit up at the UN are NOT friends. At least, not HIS friends.

3. Ah the irony
* is now asking for help from the international community, which is what Kerry said he would do, while Bush has been saying Kerry doesn't have a viable plan. I sure hope some undecided voters notice.

4. You already blew it turdbrain
You started a war against a soverign nation based on faulty intelligence, so the world community doesn't believe a word you say. You violated the Geneva Convention repeatedly. You have gone and occupied an Arab nation, just like all the America-haters said you would.

You can't lead anyone. It's time to head back to your little farm in Crawford and get out of the way. Shithead.

Seems that was the bluster when Chimpy was lying his way into an illegal invasion.

The shouldn't let him speak there, they should arrest him and charge him with war crimes, IMO.

..."the international community must rise to this historic moment. And the United States is prepared to lead."

Sounds like the same arrogant, demanding b.s. he always spews. The mediawhores will say how 'forceful' he was and the int'l community will flip him the figurative bird.

tracts. i'm only assuming that's the Kerry plan, but of course Kerry has the trust of the foreign leaders, and nobody trusts bush because he's not trustworthy.

moon him, toss eggs at him, boo him and then walk out on him.

Oh, and as they walk out, they all turn and flip him off.

Now wouldn't that be nice?

One more thought. Then the entire UN should stand in front of reporters and say 'we won't work with the US until * is out of office. We suggest he resign right now. We WILL work with Kerry.'

Wouldn't it be grand?

(Edited to add the 'one more thought' part.)

and George Bush will make all the decisions, and will form the world more closely to his and Halliburton's, Carlyle's, etc. hearts' desires. What's not to like?

How would anyone know if he has gone insane?

14. Getting ready to pass the buck (again) ...
So, bush will put forward a preposterous resolution allowing the UN to take over all the security in Iraq but leaving America in charge of the oil. Obviously, this will be rejected by the UN. Then bush can blame the UN for the mess in Iraq, because they were not prepared to "rise to this historic moment". Whooosh ... there goes the buck ...

16. If this wasn't so f&#@ing disgusting,
it would be comical. Absolutely, positively the most incompetent president in the history of our country.

Timeline:

March 19, 2003: "UN? Yeah uh, fuck you. We don't need your help."

May 1, 2003: "Mission accomplished!"

Pick a date: "It's going great"

Pick a date: "Um, it's still going...great"

September 19, 2004: "Oh shit, I fucked up. Get the UN to fix it"

Between now and November: "In case you've forgotten, it's not my fault"

17. I think it is about time that Kofi Annan states clearly that in order
for any meaningful action to come from the UN member states in regard to Iraq, W* needs to tender a CLEAR and UNADULTERATED APOLOGY to the UN and member states for the treatment that W* and poodle meted out to them on the Iraqi issue. And a pledge to work, henceforth, within the rules they have required of other nations.

20. This is proof to me he has hijacked the country
and he's taken it for a joy-ride. The Republicans, so damned smug, power mad, greedy, and enthralled with the control they've acquired couldn't care less!

Why let conscience and moral considerations slow them down? If there were any sane Republicans left, they'd come forward with a plan to force him to resign, as it happened with Richard M. Nixon, before things get far, far worse, even though it seems impossible it could get this bad to start with! The writing's on the wall. It's simply unavoidable.

He should be removed. They should be men/women enough to get their act together and realize that having control at this price is evil, as well as stupid! They can't control the whole world, even though they're gonna try.
