Dean to Top $10 Million for Quarter
Democratic Candidate Might Forgo Public Financing

By Jim VandeHei
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, August 27, 2003; Page A03

Former Vermont governor Howard Dean, who is considering becoming the first Democrat to forgo public financing for a presidential campaign, will raise at least $10.3 million this quarter, his campaign manager, Joe Trippi, said yesterday.

<snip>

Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass) and Rep. Richard A. Gephardt (Mo.), who many leading Democrats consider Dean's toughest challengers for the nomination, will not come close to matching Dean this quarter, according to their campaign aides.

1. i'll bet you he will beat Clinton's record of '95 for a Dem
and raise $11 million. Trippi is damn smart--he won't talk about this openly unless they are pretty sure of themselves.

2. agreed
they must be pretty close to $10.3 million already for Trippi to be making such a statement.

5. GO BOLD!
Fantastic. What's really "fun" about this is that it's taking on Rove with the same kind of "gee, i certainly hope they are bullshitting and just trying to psych us out" that they do all the time, only it's not bullshit. Dean could actually raise enough, from individual small donors, to beat Bush and forgo matching. The Dean campaign is running ads, some in "Bush states", saying that they'll campaign in all 50 states, and make every one of them competitive. And I think they can...

Let's not only smack the donkey (thanks Al), but let's smack the bald head of that corporate pimp-bitch Rove too...

6. hoo ha, hoo ha...
Got ya all in check.

The more Limbaugh cackles about Dean, the more certain I am that the Right's terrified of him.

7. Could I respectfully suggest
to the Gephardt people, that we retire the inane "at the end of the day" qualifier? GOD, that's TIRED. When did that come up? 1996?
