Robert Novak Believes in Revealing Confidential Sources, After All
http://199.249.170.220/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000628458

NEW YORK Syndicated columnist Robert Novak apparently believes that the principle of not revealing confidential sources is rather flexible.

The man who has stood on this principle for months, in deflecting calls for him to identify who in the Bush administration "outed" CIA operative Valerie Plame, said this weekend on national television that CBS should release the name of its source for the documents at the center of the dispute over its recent program on President Bush's National Guard service.

On the CNN panel show, "Capital Gang," Novak expressed grave doubts about the CBS documents, then said: "I'd like CBS, at this point, to say where they got these documents from. They didn't get them from a CIA agent. I don't believe there was any laws involved. I don't think we'll have a special prosecutor, if they tell. I think they should say where they got these documents because I thought it was a very poor job of reporting by CBS...."

Fellow panelist, Al Hunt, from the Wall Street Journal, then replied: "Robert Novak, you're saying CBS should reveal its source?"

What a hypocritical piece of shit :puke:

Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 10:34 AM by underpants
Or are we splitting hairs there?

I have always said that Novak doesn't need to name his sources (1st Amendment and all) but.............WE NEED TWO NAMES FROM THE WHITE HOUSE <.PERIOD>

It's accurate. Anyways, everybody knows his source on the Plame case was probably Scooter.

3. Does ANYBODY really expect different
...from Novakula?

This guy has been nothing but a lying, hypocritical sack of conserva-assclown horseshit since his early days.

Someone needs to get Begala and Carville to crawl around Novakula over this...

Then tell Novak to go Cheney himself

4. I saw that! The show host grinned and said "YOU BOB?"
"YOU ARE TELLING CBS TO REVEAL A CONFIDENTIAL SOURCE!"

The whole thing was really funny! Of course Novak didn't look embarrassed or anything, but he did SHUT UP!

7. I have one comment:
Bwaaaaaaa haha

Beyond hypocrite.

I heard it - and they all looked at him - I was glad they jumped on
him.

He should be in jail - and at the very least taken off the air on all
programs.

What's the e mail of the program ?

If anyone has it please post it....

We should demand the hypocrite be taken off air.

17. Agreed, but I would have loved a Plame question.....
...just to see his reaction when nailed. For my own pleasure. They let him off the hook. But they do have him now on record as saying CBS should reveal theier source. They hypocrisy and lies of the BFEE never fail to astonish me. I should know better by now. Hope springs eternal. If and when the sheep wake up.......maybe....who knows?

18. I sent a comment to Crossfire.
"Mr. Novak's ironic request that Dan Rather produce the source of the Bush AWOL documents in view of his own treasonous refusal to provide HIS leaked source of Valerie Plame's CIA identity is laughable at best. Mr. Novak, have you NO SHAME?"

It's an easy form to fill out at:

31. Great! Thanks...the more the merrier!
Novakula's hypocrisy is unbelievable. He belongs in prison for treason. What a tool and shill he is. In his cell, I'd like to see a large hairy angry Vietnam Vet whose job just got outsourced and he had to resort to credit card fraud to support his family of four. ;-)

9. In order to look embarrased
you have to be capable of self-reflection, which douchebag for liberty isn't.

What's remarkable isn't what a self-serving hypocrite he is (we know lots of repugs like that), but how supposedly respectable news organizations continue to employ him.

13. He did a great crabwalk
like the other hypocritical Repubs. See. It's like this: if you're a liberal, you have to follow the rules. But if you're a wingnut, you don't. You don't have to take a military ordered physical or show up for training drills. Your papa will still get you an honorary discharge. And you can out an undercover CIA agent (a treasonable offense) and not reveal your source (a White House Bushie). But if CBS doesn't reveal a source, they're in violation of your code.
These people just make up the rules.
Novak is a journalist like Bo Derek is an actress.

15. Hunt was too kind.
I realize they were being subtle, and is probably the high road to take anyway; but the emotions in me would have enjoyed seeing hypocritical Novak getting ripped to shreds.

Who's on Crossfire today? I'd like to see Begala, or better yet, Carville put Novak in the hot seat.

21. No Vak
I wonder if Bob is one of those rich people who dodge taxes that Bush keeps talking about, but does nothing about?

In my view, Bob is an example of someone who will never stop lying, cheating, and smearing anyone who has a difference of opinion with his rich phony compadres.

He is a pathetic little man as ugly inside as outside.

22. New chief for CIA, with strings attached
from the September 13, 2004 edition
Porter Goss would bring experience to top spy role, but must face down critics
By Gail Russell Chaddock | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

<snip> But many colleagues on the Democratic side of the aisle do not. Democrats didn't appreciate the poster Goss brought onto the floor of the House last June that cited Sen. John Kerry's 1997 call for reductions in the US intelligence apparatus after the end of the cold war. "He's far too political" for the job, says Sen. Richard Durbin (D) of Illinois, a member of the panel that will grill Goss.

Other issues Democrats plan to raise: Why did Goss, as chairman of the House oversight panel, fail to investigate the leak of the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame? Did he selectively declassify material to discredit former counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke and help the Bush administration? And, most important, as a key player overseeing an agency now deemed dysfunctional, isn't he part of the problem? <snip>

Winds of Change: Troubled Waters Ahead For the Neo Cons
by Wayne Madsen

<snip> Fitzgerald continues to expand his case against the leakers of Plame's identity. But he may be getting more than he originally bargained for. As his investigation expanded into the bowels of the Pentagon, he was bound to discover that the treachery of the neo-cons was not merely confined to the leaking of the name of a covert CIA officer - disastrous in itself - but coupled with other activities that call into question the loyalties and financial dealings of those who swore an oath to the U.S. Constitution.

With Ashcroft's deputy, James Comey, the person who appointed Fitzgerald, finding himself increasingly frozen out of Ashcroft's inner sanctum deliberations, it is clear that the neo-cons are worried about what Fitzgerald is discovering and how far his investigation will go. Also unusual was the fact that as Fitzgerald's case began to gain steam - with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney both retaining criminal defense attorneys - FBI Director Robert Mueller suddenly transferred the lead FBI agent on the Plame case, John C. Eckenrode, a well-seasoned 29-year veteran of the bureau, to head up the FBI's Philadelphia office. An FBI spokesman in Philadelphia said that such sudden transfers, in the middle of major investigations, sometimes, just "happen."

Make no mistake about it: the violation of the 1982 Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982 by the disclosure of Plame's identity and that of her non-official cover corporate umbrella organization (Brewster, Jennings & Associates) along with its official counterpart, the CIA's Nonproliferation Center - had a disastrous impact on the ability of the United States to track the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction around the world. At least one anonymous star (representing a covert U.S. agent killed while working abroad) placed on the CIA's Wall of Honor during the past year was reportedly a direct result of the disastrous disclosures from Cheney's office. The political vendettas of the neo-cons in exposing Plame's dangerous work and retaliating against Wilson's revelations about Bush's use of bogus intelligence regarding a fanciful Iraqi uranium shopping spree in Niger ensured that America's military-intelligence complex was going to seek a final accounting with the neo-cons. And a final accounting they are getting, in spades. <snip>

WOW! - When I first read the title of this thread I thought perhaps Novak ACTUALLY REVEALED his sources!
Silly me!
No- yet again Novak proves he is a hypocritical shill.
I hope Carville 'carves' him a new orifice for that.

I wrote Crossfire with the recommendation to censure Novak...

Why not?

I urge others to do the same - what he did to Valerie Plame and HIS OWN COUNTRY is inexcusable.
