Springsteen criticizes TV political coverage
--

"Things are distorted by ratings and by money to where you're getting one hour of the political conventions," Springsteen says in an interview for the Oct. 14 issue of Rolling Stone magazine. "No matter how staged they are, I think they're a little more important than people eating bugs."

--snip

"The fact that the administration refused to allow photographs of the flag-draped coffins of returning dead, that the president hasn't shown up for a single military funeral for the young people who gave their lives for his policies, is disgraceful," Springsteen says.

Maybe he can get through to some of his middle-aged white male fans who love the Chimp.

19. Have you heard The Rising? That album reminds me a
lot of the earlier (well, not the first two albums) stuff. I was happily surprised by how much I liked it.

Born to Run is definitely my desert island album. Perfect in every way!

31. So, you think Bruce Springsteen's music is despicable?
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 12:25 AM by MissMarple
I am not male and am somewhat beyond middle aged. And, I don't believe that George's white male fans actually listen to Springsteen and the E Street Band. Bruce is out of their league, as we old people might say. He always has been. Relax a bit, eventually you will learn that music has a time and a place, not everyone likes Gregorian chants for instance, or even the Sons of the Pioneers, however, they do have value, and they do have a place in our musical culture, as well as our wider culture. Bruce will be around for quite awhile.

And, if this Slayer reference relates to Buffy, I do like Buffy. Slayer girls, well,... they are a good thing.

36. Didn't George try a similar thing? And Mellencamp? GO, JOHN!
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 01:16 AM by MissMarple
"Denounced as un-American after he blasted Bush on his 21st album, John Mellencamp talks about the rise of Fox News, pay-for-play, what's wrong with the Rolling Stones and why most Republicans aren't rich enough to be Republicans.

- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Eric Boehlert

June 30, 2003 | "The whole thing was surreal to me," says John Mellencamp. He's remembering the three-month period during the winter and spring when America was wrestling with the notion of war against Iraq. The roots-rocker found himself caught in the public fray after he released an antiwar song at the height of the debate, with some radio listeners comparing him to Osama bin Laden.

"It was a startling charge for the Hoosier recently dubbed "Mr. Middle America" by ABC News. After nearly 30 years on the public stage, Mellencamp and his heartland tales have come to signify Midwestern values like faith, hard work and, yes, a healthy skepticism toward authority. But anti-Americanism? "Get the fuck out of here," he scoffs.

His protest song "To Washington," with its thinly veiled jabs at President Bush, struck a chord with listeners on the left and right alike. "Isn't it funny?" he asks. "A 51-year-old guy who's made as many records as I have can still piss off the right wing."

17. Yup. I was late for the concert in MSG
but, thankfully, didn't miss him! I think Jackson Browne was really instrumental in putting those together, but Bruce was definitely the biggest draw there. I remember Chakka Khan getting all pissed off b/c people kept calling for BRUCE all through her act.

It was pretty great!

22. Boy was I pissed at the friends who -m
suggested we drive home from PA (school) during the Jewish holidays! By the time I turned back around to get to the city, (and my boyfriend got us lost somewhere in Clifton...) we were LATE!

I think I might have committed murder if I'd missed Bruce, though, LOL. It WAS really cool. That many amazing people all on the same stage... It's neat to see it happening again now. And, of course, there are people like Bruce, and Jackson and Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor again. No wonder I love them!

I kind of feel that way myself. I've always been someone who disliked the Democratic candidate only slightly less than the Republican candidate. Always voted Democrat but held my nose.

that no one here has mentioned Bruce's greatest political statement, The Ghost of Tom Joad. Bruce has always championed the underdog, the poor, disconnected. Can anyone think of a more chilling song than "Nebraska"? If the Repugs are trying to paint Bruce as "washed up," they have another think coming. His creative powers have not been one bit dampened.:yourock:
