CNN: UK hostage 'renews Blair appeal'
LONDON, England (CNN) -- An Arabic-language news channel has broadcast a video of Kenneth Bigley, the British contractor kidnapped in Iraq two weeks ago, in which he urges UK Prime Minister Tony Blair to work for his release.

The footage aired by Al-Jazeera on Wednesday showed Bigley behind bars in what appears to be a cramped prison cell. The authenticity of the tape has not been independently verified.

Dressed in a shiny orange jump suit with a chain around his neck, the 62-year-old contractor is crouched on the floor and appears to be weeping at one point.

Sorry if this is a dupe.

1. This has got to be the death knell
of Tony Blair's re-election. It couldn't have happened at a worse time: Tony's busy fighting off the wolves that are circling. Now this. If he helps the hostage, he risks the wrath of the US which has a policy of not giving in to the hostage-takers' demands.

If he turns his back on Mr. Bigley which he appears to be doing, he risks unleashing the wrath of not only the U.K., but the rest of Europe.

Are you regretting being a key player in this little adventure now, Tony? This is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

2. Don't you believe it.
Many Americans don't care that Bush is murdering people in Iraq, and many Brits don't care that Blair is his accomplice. They're interested in jobs, wages and petrol in their tanks, and that's all. Watch New Labour win Hartlepool (a town interested only in its employment rate and "bored" by iraq) tomorrow and Blair announce that his credibility has been restored...

3. I hadn't even oonsidered how this would play domestically (in U.K.)
Apparently, this second video shows Bigley behind bars, which brings up the interesting issue of exactly where he might be being held.
