Senator proposes Muslim media blitz (Biden: officially an idiot)
:eyes:

The trouble is substance, not image.. point of fact, motives and intentions seem well understood and bless them for it.

Senator proposes Muslim media blitz
Thursday 30 September 2004

A US senator has called for an expansion in American radio and television broadcasts around the Muslim world to repair the country's 'image problem'.

Senator Joe Biden on Wednesday said such broadcasts would help correct "a bastardisation of US views by Aljazeera and many other Arab networks".

"It's hardly a secret that we have more than an image problem overseas. The fact of the matter is there are 1.2 billion Muslims in the world who seem not to understand our motives and our intentions," Biden, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said.

"I am proposing an ambitious…and substantial increase in our international broadcasting to countries with significant Muslim populations," he said.

23. I lost respect for Biden after his "kangaroo" foreign affairs committee
engineered the senate hearing on the Iraqi WMD before the disastrous 2002 mid-term elections. That hearing effectively maginalized Scott Ritter and all who were trying to prevent the war. Biden so brazen about not inviting them. For him to turn around now and try to sound as if he gave consideration to all sides of the Iraqi war debate is cynical IMO.

Gotta think of better ways to spin stuff like this...

http://optruth.com/main.cfm?actionId=globalShowStaticContent&screenKey=hear&lnav=1

The following is an excerpt of an email sent from a U.S. troop serving in Iraq to a friend at home. The servicemember asked that Operation Truth withhold his name.

Last night we had a young girl run out in front of my Humvee. We slammed into her and her body fell and slid on the ground. We were going about 55 mph. I immediately turned around and watched as 8 of the convoy trucks right behind us trampled her body to pieces. Her head was gone and I was frantically trying to get the trucks to move over, but they just kept coming. I jumped out of my turret and dragged what was left of her to the side of the road. I couldnt stand to see her trampled like a dog anymore. Sorry for the graphic story, just a bit stressed lately. I'll be fine. Its the nature of running the gauntlet.

6. I trust Biden to be a bridge-builder,....rather than bully buster.
BUT,...the broadcasting should be an invitation for,...a dialogue,...a conversation among us,...not an imposition of "stuff".

I am all for opening every door, window and screen,...for all of us to share our experiences and passions and hopes. Just,...don't shove your "benevolence" down my throat,...'cause I am of equal value as a human being as you.

9. Um, Biden, they hate us for what we DO to them.
It's not a toothpaste commercial thingy. And they aren't as easily duped as Americans, because they are LIVING with what America does to them.

Get a grip Biden.

24. Bombing them to Bits Killing their children
DIRECTLY PISSES THEM OFF

Doubtful a nice tidy media blitz featuring Purple Barney the Dinosaur is going to cure the perception of the wife and kids lying in bloody pieces in the rubble of the house. (the endless library of photos on AJ)

LOL What a fucking idiot.

It's just a matter of image making and paradigm shifting.

Qu'ran? What's that? A book. World's full of books.

13. Laugh and ridicule all you want. We're up shit creek as far as possible
and you have to start somewhere. Getting rid of Bush would be step no. 1, but this is just a sign of how completely fucked we are.
It's not any indication of Biden's idiocy, but rather shows the glaring need for a plan. ANY plan.

15. You're half right
Shit Creek is indeed the present location. What is only left now, under the existing orders, is to grin and bear it as the response comes:--anything else would bring either dismissive giggling (Biden's idea) or more force behind the punch.

16. Shit creek needs more than a PR campaign
"any" plan isn't the answer. Claiming that a PR type of blitz will help is a sign of refusing to face real problems. We don't have a "PR" problem, we have a situation that must be ended and true reparations made. What exactly could anyone say to counter the feelings and impressions people have of the US? Seriously. What on earth is there that can be *said*---what is needed is action not an advertising campaign about "freedom" and "democracy" while brutally occupying a country in the region.

Frankly, if my neighbor said this it would be "something." That a US Senator with decades of experience says it is ridiculous. He might as well be in the Bush* WH. They think its all misunderstood perceptions too.

19. Agreed - we're not trying to sell these people mouthwash or cars
What the FUCK is wrong with this country that the automatic, no, the reflexive response from anybody who's anybody in government or business is to push for an exciting new PR campaign?

People with typhoid need antibiotics, not TV commercials. People with kwashikohr need food, not glossy pamphlets. People whose crops have failed need seed, tools and enough food to get them to the harvest, not a friendly voice talkin' 'bout how wonderful 'Murica is on the radio.

And people in Iraq need actions, not more words.

Bruce Barton never died, it seems.

22. Biden is an idiot
Here's the kind of role I'd like Biden to have in a Kerry administration: None.

Good relationships have nothing to do with PR campaigns. I think the problem is what Joe Biden doesn't understand, not what "1.2 billion Muslims" are thinking.
